Ase's Perpetual Fun With Coco

Hey guys . another option Anna is just to buy one.. I'm not using mine but I took some photos for ya. It was 13$ .

and it has 2 different size hooks, has elastic bands

mine is for a 5x5 but I saw 4x4 and 3x3.
But I will say that when its all the way on it doesnt hug the tent walls quite right. There are gaps between scrog and tent wall just a little tho.

I have also heard of people drilling holes in the pipe and just threading the line through it. So no zip ties. But wont work with a net you have to crosshatch your own string to make a net.

It's best in my opinion to drill holes and put hooks with screw ends on them 2" apart from each other then just weave up the net. A cheaper option is to use actual screws but hooks will work so much better.

What you has is just a regular ole trellis net/support net when building an actual scrog you really want a frame with nice and tight weaving. Though trellis nets are neat and worth the price that's for sure. But you can build a scrog with a proper frame for that same 13$. What can stank said with the zip ties would be neat and probably a couple bucks cheaper idk I'd just prefer hooks and which is what I'm switching over to next grow instead of the screws I'm currently using.

Hey Ase
Purple Kush is looking....kush! (as in the way The Brits use the word). Listening to you & PW r.e. Scrog vs Topping/Supercropping is exactly what I wanted to hear cos making a Scrog screen/screens is beyond my DIY capabilities & I kinda enjoyed my 1st Supercrop experience. Definitely keen to try your quadlining technique soon. Respect.

I will agree with everyone else that they are not that hard to make. I totally understand if you aren't a DIY person though. I think it's best for someone doing their first real grow to just top and LST. Supercropping is more than just LST, it's damaging the plant so it has to focus it's energy to repair it. It works great but I don't really do much supercropping anymore either. I just top and then tie them down and let them grow with them tied down. I seem to lose less time in recovery that way. You've seen the tutorials so I don't need to explain it but really all I do is top and then hard LST. As cool as a full scrogging screen is, it just seems to get in the way and make things more difficult.

I'm on my first grow with a scrog and I can see how you'd say it gets in the way but idk me personally I still think I'm leaning towards preferring it. Last grow I had a hell of a time supporting up large colas plus it gives me a good goal to aim for that I can physically look at (filling the screen out) also beats having to re-tie everything down every week or two until you get to flower and have to start tying branches up lol. I do like being able to remove my pots though without the scrog but next grow I'll do a better job of building something to capture runoff like a small drain plug on my tent so I can water them as much as desired.

I agree here. That trellis net is alright but it's not a scrog. In my opinion a scrog is a tight net that has small gaps for each cola to come through. If it's loose or has big gaps in it then its a trellis or support net. You don't actually train the plant against it.

I built one with screws and it took me an hour. Just made screws 2" apart and threaded the net through it just like you said. Screw clips would be easy too but zip ties can work as well. screws were incredibly easy for anyone that can operate a drill. Screw hooks instead sound like a great idea. Either way the net just has to be tight and the squares not so large.

I did scrogging for my first year-ish of growing. It's a great method but for me it's just not something I could continue with. Hand feeding with coco everyday and running 4 different strains every grow makes it much more difficult. Every strain has a different growth rate and I really like being able to move them around. I feel like my feeding schedule and training methods make my plants pretty even and spaced correctly without using the screen and also a lot sturdier (boosting potassium at the correct time). You may always have to support big colas with something but individual ties work for those. I get the same results, if not better, so running my grows without a net is easier for me at this point in time. If I ever switch back over to one strain grows I would think about a net again just for fun but that likely won't happen for years with all the different seeds/strains I have now. Gotta try them all first!

How much did that white rhino yield for you Ase?

I think it was 150g or so if I remember right. I have another bean of it and can't wait to grow it again. That was early into my coco knowledge. Just thinking of the potential...

That is a great yield. I will be very happy if my purple envys yield that much. I'm hoping...

This plant is ridiculous! Holy shit! Thanks for all this great info. I really want to try a scrog one day but I'm going to stick to training especially since I have two completely diff plants growing. your so knowledgeable ✌️

Thanks VS!!! Exactly what I needed for a tutorial! Lordy Lordy there are some smart peeps on
420...I was wondering how the pvc pipes constructed in everyone's tents are so on point! I'm trying to decide if I scrog or train for my new girls.

For me, the decision is really about the strain as much as it is about training. I know that if I am growing a Sativa or Sativa dominant strain there is a chance that the plant will struggle to support the bigger colas. I learned that the hard way on my first grow. I went to do my 3 week flower defoliation and I moved one plant and half of that plant flopped over due to the weight. It was a royal pain in the ass to deal with that floppage LOL. The Scrog is the way to go for sativas imo.

Here is the most simple scrog. This is what I use and it works perfectly and can be adjusted on the poles just using zip ties.

Cut to size you need with Tin snips

Very simple to do

Flower day 54 - Veg day 43

My flower girls will definitely go longer than 9 weeks. The Purple Envy I think is going to go 10 and the Purple Kush might even be 11 weeks. I discovered one of my colas on the Purple Kush had a really twisted weird fan leaf. When I poked at it the leaf fell out early and I immediately knew that it had to be mold. It was just on one and I cut that top cola off and heavily inspected all the others. They are fine. This was due to it raining (high humidity) the last week where I live and temps getting to a minimum of 65 degrees overnight (ideally you want to be about 69-70 at the lowest). It also was due to a fan that I had that had stopped oscillating. I took it down and never put the new one up. I also hadn't opened the furnace vent down there. Things that had totally slipped my mind. So I am hoping I don't find any other bud rot anywhere now that there is good air flow again on my upper colas and the nights will be warmer in the room.

You can see in the front right where the cola was cut on the plant. I've seen people try and keep rot/mold in check and it ended up taking over their whole plant. Not going to even mess around with that so it was gone quick. I've never had such fat colas so I wasn't even thinking about it really. Lesson learned. Although the good news was I was able to recognize it based off one leaf and very little mold so my experience paid off here before it got out of hand. Something just didn't look right and there were a few orangeish hairs too and the plants still all have just white hairs everywhere.

The star now for sure is the Purple Envy. No signs of anything wrong at all. It's pretty much perfect. I'm not sure I could have grown this one too much better. Since it was shorter the tower fan I use was able to keep good air on it's colas the whole time.

The veg tent gets flipped to 12/12 tonight. The timer is set. I was going to do it last night but I forgot to set the timer itself. I guess I thought I could just think it with my mind and make it happen? I don't know why I have been so forgetful lately. Oh yeah I do... It's because my last grows harvest is in it's prime right now. Anyways, time to see what these Mars Hydro Epistar lights can do in flower. I really think they will be pretty good.

Counter clockwise starting from top left - Ice, Cinderella99, Jock Horror and Lemon Venom. They are ready for sure. 6 week veg from seed in the bag. Pretty stoked about that as it was my goal this time and I really am happy with the way they look.

Looks awesome Ase! I'm liking this quadlining technique for my next go round. Happy flip day :)

I haven't scrogged it yet but after growing a sativa manifolded and dealing with 8 4' tall stalks, I would most definitely entertain scrogging it next time. My experience was exactly as you described. But to Ase's point I like running different plants, with different needs, so the scrog is less than ideal.

I'll definitely be trying it in time though, and it'll be with a sativa.
