Ase's Perpetual Fun With Coco

Caught up and subbed! Wow, fantastic girls and your journal skills are perfecto! :bravo:

I was hoping you would share some wisdom please. Concerning the pH of runoff in coco DTW. I am currently in week 9 and while measuring my EC of runoff I checked the pH and it is 6.7 - 7.0 on my 4 girls. Water going in has been 6.0. Concern? How, or do you check your pH on runoff?

Again, you are doing an amazing job and I sooooo appreciate your time in sharing it all with us.

Welcome to the thread Budmaker! It's always fun having someone else join along and I enjoy it when you guys introduce yourselves! I know there are people who would rather read in the shadows but it makes it more fun for me anyways. I've also added your journal link from your signature to my subscription list.

To answer your question, my concern of runoff is not too high as long as it is in a range of about 1.0 either way. Ideally I would love for the range to be in the 5.6-6.6 range. I just showed Dobewon how I catch my runoff in those big trays, well I make sure the trays are completely empty and then I dump my feed in and measure the runoff as soon as it's done draining. If it is in that range then I don't really think twice. If not then the next day I will catch each individual plants runoff in a separate cup and measure it individually. This is a way more accurate way to do it because one plant might be really high and three kind of low and it still can average out to my "range" when I measure the whole tray. I like to measure both the PPM/EC and the PH though to get the best idea. Usually with higher PPMs the PH is lower so they kind of measure the same thing but if you are doing all this work then you might as well in my opinion.

If you are watering a minimum of once a day until you get at least 10% run-off with DTW then your run-off shouldn't stray too much further then what you are putting in. Plants drink water so the nutrient solution surrounding your roots is more concentrated than when you first watered them. So when you water them again the run-off should actually be slightly higher due to it flushing out a more concentrated solution then you initially put in. Higher runoff should mean lower PH so I'd say your plants probably aren't getting quite enough in terms of nutrients at the moment. I did see you had started to flush and then went back to nutes so that might have something to do with it. If it doesn't come down a bit I would run some extra feed/water through it and see if that helps bring it down.

After looking at your recent post in your journal it looks like your plants are healthy and happy and I wouldn't do too much to change things, maybe just bump the feed up a bit. The leaves are green and show little signs of deficiency or burn. The little balls on the end of your trich picture are all clear so I'd still be feeding until they all get mostly cloudy with a hint of amber and then flush. With autos it can be tough to tell sometimes when they are finished but you still have a ways to go I think.

Hope that helps and if you have any other questions just ask. I dig the coco - Ebb and flow style. I'll be tuning in to see how they finish.

Flower Day 35 - Veg Day 5 - Auto Day 91

Well things just keep on moving on relatively smoothly. I decided to start flushing the Cherry Bomb Auto a few days back. It might be slightly early but that is fine. I want to give the new veg girls their full potential and the Cherry Bomb takes up a lot of light and space. I will probably have her go close to the 100 day mark. That is 25 days past what the seed label says and I bet I could go another week if I wanted to.

The Veg girls are showing a little sign of transplant shock but I will top them soon. I then remove anything below the 3rd node. Any of the leaves showing stress are all ones I will be removing in a few days and the new growth looks strong.

IMG_313815.JPG

Each girl in the flower tent is starting have their own strong smells. They are now showing just a touch of nute burn and that happens when it gets really hot from time to time. The plant sucks up a lot of the water and leaves more salts behind. If it gets worst I will do a low nutrient balances N-P-K flush. The weather has been a little better so maybe it will stop.

I have never had a plant where the leaves tend to stretch more than the stalks do until this White Widow. These leaves I feel like just keep stretching higher and higher. Either way she is looking good and catching up a bit.

The Jack Herer is really getting frosty the fastest. This has been a but if the mystery girl the whole time but I'm relieved she turned out to be at least normal sized in the end.
IMG_314917.JPG

I was able to capture a couple of normal light shots on the other side of my tent. The Amnesiac is not stacking like the others but the buds are round and wide.
IMG_314817.JPG

Lastly the Tangerine Dream is still the front runner. It has been the whole time and will be until the end. I think she will be the best plant I will have ever grown. The colas are so pretty.

Looking great! That Tangerine Dream is making me droooool. :high-five:

Veg Day 19

In my last post I said that the small girls were in Veg day 5. I was thinking about my nute schedule and not where they were actually at from seed for the header. Really the small girls are on day 19. I just topped them today and probably should have a couple days ago. I really was waiting to see some awesome growth though and I did today so I knew today was their first haircut. Once again I followed the same method as before. I removed the first and 2nd node and anything trying to grow. Kept the 3rd and the 4th and topped the rest. This will give me 4 main branches.

In a small way I am kind of glad I waited this long to top them. The main stalk will be nice and sturdy and they are a little taller underneath from the coco. This will make watering a touch easier as well as increase airflow. These girls have about 5 weeks to veg until they go into the flower tent. I am going to use the same training style as before so soon they will be tied down.

Two nodes off the top. Would have made a great clone but unfortunately I have so many of all these seeds.

With the Good Comes the Bad

For the first time I've had a plant herm out on me (I've been lucky since I started to not have too much bad happen to me). I'll have to rethink why that might have happened but the Tangerine Dream had to come out of the tent today and get chopped. I've had plants be straight male (freebies) but haven't experienced a hermie. Sucks that it's this late into flowering. I noticed what looked like tiny dried up leaves on the bottom today and when I pulled on one I saw a white powder on my finger and immediately pulled it out of the tent. I also found a few places where there was a couple seed bunches growing.

Everything has looked very healthy and even though conditions were a little warm a week or two back, they have been relatively normal for about a week. If it was my fault then the issues would likely have been heat stress or light stress, although my temps didn't get above 84 F. The leaves I feel like would have shown indications of either big-time though and she didn't so I'm not totally sure. Hopefully nothing spread and I looked at the other 3 girls but they are fine for now. Maybe if it was genetics and it sort of explains why it grew that much taller than all the other ones but I would lean towards some sort of stress this late into flowering. Disappointing but with my cycle it makes it easy to move on as there are always more plants coming.

Pollen sacks hanging and balls where the orange hairs are underneath the sacks about midway down the pictures. Too many to try and grow it out and not going to risk the other girls in the tent getting pollinated.

RIP Tangerine Dream. I will say if she would have finished out and not hermed I think this was going to be a good candidate for Plant of the Month.

That sucks Ase - she was indeed looking very nice. You have a lot of great stuff coming up though, hopefully the next plant in line will make you forget about this one soon enough.

I like the node 3/4 idea - looking forward to see how you train it now.

I did try hydroton in plastic and it didn't do much but take up room in the pot. Grow bags, which are new to me, are a lot different. Seems they are holding a lot more moisture. I'm watering less. When I read that you started using it, it makes a lot of sense in these bags. I'm really liking them by the way .I always ended up with salt build up a long the sides of the pots, where the roots wrapped around.
I'm down to using about 10% perlite, that shit was another cause of salt build up when I was using 30% the only reason I use it now is 3 bags of canna coco and and 10% perlite fills 10 5 gal pots perfectly lol (cheap)

Hi Suntana:
wondering if there is another explanation for/of the
Hydro trays under your cloth pots. And what is the material that you are putting in the bottom of your pots ? Used to be small gravel do they not use this anymore. Would a big tray underneath them work? I have some small rack for the cupboard organisation and
I'm thinking of putting ea. pot on those. The racks they sit on would be just like a whole shelf only individual . What do you think?

Kindest Regards;
Baker1053 (Rick)

Damn ase but it happens bloody good looking but nonetheless.!

Yeah I thought about letting it finish outside or something just to see it in its glory but ultimately I just chopped it and got rid of it. Im not too worried about it.
