Ase's Perpetual Fun With Coco

Your plants are so beautiful and healthy looking, Ase!! I'm gonna try some of that training you did on my next grow (so I'll be hitting you up with some assistance if that's cool) and my fav underdog, Little Jack Herer is killing it now!:cheertwo:

One of my best friends and I's first time buying weed together was Jack Herer and it was one of my top 3 buds I had ever smoked. I wanted to grow this strain since I started growing because of that and give him some. When it started out small I was kind of bummed but it looks so good now. Nice to have 4 healthy looking girls going into this flip.

I told you I'd help when you needed! Maybe you won't even need it...

Welcome along Capt.! The more the merrier. I am enjoying the amount of active people on this journal so far. A good mix of the old guys that have been with me since the beginning and new people who want to learn. Being your first attempt feel free to ask any questions and if you start a journal let me know so I can subscribe to it.

Greatly appreciate it.. I'm headed down to Portland to get my starts..
I am truly excited to start growing my own medicine..:)
And with post like yours, it's making things much clearer.. So Thank you!!!

Looking awesome Ase. Proof is in the pudding with your training.

I've gotta try Gorilla Glue at some point - just not sure what photo seed to try for the closest experience. Was thinking maybe Gorilla Queen by Royal Queen.
I have a GG#4 freebie from Gorilla Seeds I am growing atm. Small little girl but should take off well

Ah, well welcome to the Rose City. Once you start growing your own stuff it is very hard to go back to paying those prices. The selection is great but I haven't purchased smoke from one of them since last September. That means I'm only 2 months away from being totally self sufficient when it comes to my smoking habits for almost a full year! That will be a huge personal milestone for me.

Always appreciate the nice words about my journal. I'm just glad people seem to learn something from it. I do things just a bit different than most but it works for me and some other people have shared positive results from trying my methods. It makes me feel good that all the work I put into this thing helps people.

Flowering time is here  can't wait to see how they turn out brother

You and me both bru! Lets see if I really know what I am doing or if the veg stage just looked nice and now they will be a mess. I'm hoping they look as good as they did throughout veg in flower. Still, I always love flipping to 12/12. In a few weeks 4 more seeds get started and off we go for another round!

Are you going to be running it in this journal too? Interested to see what strains you choose to go with. I am also excited to get my GG done. Really want to be able to upgrade my setup and run two tents. Pretty sure you got this down bro, switch over to those bloom nutes, kick it in high gear and off we go :passitleft: LoL hopefully I also do better this time round with my flowering

This journal will just be a really long journal that has all my grows for the year in it and likely longer (until I decide to stop journaling). Since I will have new girls flowering every 9 weeks, the two tents will overlap and it gets confusing and hard to keep track of in separate journals. I decided to just put everything I am doing into one journal. What throws the whole thing off this time is doing the autos. I just wanted to use them up and the timing worked out. From here on out it will be flower tent and veg tent and new girls every 9 weeks.

That sounds like a good plan bru specially if you running multiple grows and strains at a time. For now I love my punny journals, will most likely get a bigger journal up and going when I get a new tent

Photos Flower Day 2

Happy 4th of July everyone (in the USA)!

I'm starting to see some bright green out of each node now. They are all starting to get ready to stretch. These next couple weeks are going to be interesting. Always fun to see how tall they will get. I couldn't have tied them down any harder so now we see which ones stretch the most and how much. This is the first time I am flowering with 2 Mars Hydro Reflector 144W instead of one and a 96W. They should have plenty of light and the I anticipate good node spacing to prepare for swelling and stacking.

Just to keep track of the stacking, Cherry Bomb continuing to amaze.

Hey Ase - Your girls are so pretty! And the CB is so hairy! May I hit you up with a question? I've noticed on some of my flowering plants there are very pale yellow tips on the leaves..like a few on your lovely Cherry Bomb. I assume it's slight nute burn? But is it a problem? I'd prefer not to make different ppm mixes for different plants (I'm giving ~750-800 ppm)And I don't want to UNDER-feed the others! So should I ignore it?
P.S. I just read your terrific last journal and learnt loads of things..thanks!!

I hear ya on paying those prices. Not only saving money but to me and I'm sure most all of us. The satisfaction of doing it yourself and knowing exactly where your smoke came from. Getting excited to see it sprout out of the dirt all the way to you start to see preflowers. One big exciting, self satisfaction of a journey.

Yes it is slight nute burn and no it's not a problem. I've had some growers say that they like to just barely get the tips like that, that way they know the amount of nutes they are holding is maxed out and can't take anymore. I understand the logic there but I'd rather not have burnt tips at all if I can help it. To help with this my next feed I will lower the ppm from about 650 to 500 and see how they respond. I'll still keep all my NPK ratios on schedule though.

I feel like the plants show the burnt tips a little faster when they start consuming more water and if I'm not watering twice a day consistently then they show a little. All of my grows I have had slightly burnt tips. All of them have turned out pretty good! Some people do a schedule where they feed one day, feed again the next day and then water+calmag on the 3rd and repeat. I've thought of trying this but I just bump down my feedings when I see it instead.

Lastly, the third thing could be strain dependent. Some strains are just more finicky than others. Autos are easy to grow but hard to maximize and I think I've been overfeeding her (autos typically can't take the same amount of PPM as a photo plant). I use the same bucket of feed for all my Auto's even though they are all clearly different in growth by a couple weeks.

I'd recommend dropping your feed down by 100 ppms and see if they respond in a week. A little nute burn is not something to be worried about at all but it is your plant trying to tell you something so back off a little and see what happens. You won't do any harm by dropping the ppm 100-150 for a week and see what happens.

It is a lot of fun and I am all about making or growing my own products. Not only with MJ but almost anything I do. It's amazing what we pay people in this world to do when all it takes is a quick YouTube video and some basic tools. The only two places/things I can't do that with is the doctor/dentist etc... and cars, I've just never learned. Ironically the two places I hate going to the most, the mechanic and doctors office. I just always feel like I am getting blindly ripped off. Off and on I am slowly learning about engines but I can't be without my car so I don't want to experiment too much and have something go drastically wrong.

Every new plant is fun and I 100% love knowing where my stuff came from and how it came to be, however this does get to be a bit of a chore. I justify it by saying that it kind of is, but this chore saves me and my close friends a lot of money so we can enjoy other things. I re-organized my grow area and found a source of water so I no longer have to lug water up and stairs every couple days. That's usually the one thing I dread doing so i'm glad I solved that problem. There are days I barely go down there now but to water. I remember checking like every couple hours when I first started :).

Haha. I remember those days of checking on them every hour or so. I work on my own vehicles but the manufacturer isn't making it easy for diy-ers. My fiance and I are two years into our first home with our 3 year old. Our wedding is in a couple months so this summer we haven't got to do much around the house. When we first moved in she was kind enough to let me make the grow room. So next summer we will be getting the veggie garden going. I have started a barrel collection to start grabbing rain water. This will be used to water both gardens. You are right on how much we pay for things. Lucky you with a water source. I have to carry buckets to opposite side of the house because there is no door on the side with the detached garage. Putting a door there is on top of improvements to make. Well your plants look amazing and your journal is one of a few I check on just about every morning. Love the info you provide.

Congrats on all that. Sounds like you have a lot of hard work ahead of you as well as a lot of fun. I was carrying two buckets filled with 7 gallons of water down two flights of stairs. It was pretty dangerous. There have been many people who have slipped and fell on those stairs naturally as they aren't all that wide so I guess I will count my blessings and be thankful no more stairs.

Thanks for the compliments. I try to keep things interesting. Glad you enjoy it!

Hey Ase!

Your girls are looking awesome as usual! That Cherry Bomb is definitely stacking big time :D

I wanted to get some of your wisdom regarding blackstrap molasses. I see you supplement it in flower. I used it last grow in soil and think it turned out good. What are your thoughts on it in coco as you obviously do use it? DO you add it for the sweeter taste? Or to supplement with the calcium and mag it contains?

Keen to hear your thoughts. Got some in my grow room still. Should i use it this round too :P

Hey ase thanks for all above advice it's been awesome. I have been getting my white widow auto and candy cane auto everyday for the most part but started seeing gnats around my coco. Should I slow down on the water or just not water to run off?

You know what worked for me is a spinosad drench to kill off larvae and top the pots with sand. No more gnats, them buggers will really screw a grow.
