Ase's Perpetual Fun With Coco

Hey Ase
I just subb'd and read your journal thus far in one sitting (way too much free time clearly) and have not only thoroughly enjoyed it -
but have learnt a considerable amount, too. So thanks! I loved your LST'ing and your nute schedule is brilliant. I am an outdoor grower who's doing my 1st indoor grow, in Coco, 4 x 4 Veg tent, 8 x 8 bloom tent. Completely under-estimated the complexity and work involved with indoor and over-estimated my skills! Baby steps would've been wiser but here I am....making loads of mistakes but learning everyday.
Thanks again and respect from Australia. p.s. Go little Jack Herer! I love an underdog..:cheertwo:

Excellent training Ase. Questions for you..... How many different strains have to tried the fluxing on? Out of those, how different do you find the individual strain reacting to that type training? I plan on running two different training techniques (main lining and fluxing) on my strains next grow and am just kind of interested in how different the strains react to the training.

Hi Anna!

I always love adding another country to the people that are following my little thread here (there is a grip of SA boys). Australia and New Zealand are on my bucket list of trips to take. I love to travel so maybe in the next couple years I will make it there. I'm glad you were able to read the whole thing but a good chunk of the essentials are just in those first few pages (I tried to design it that way). I'm glad you have been able to gain some knowledge. My goal was to make journals that were easy to learn from and had updates that were pretty clear at what I was doing. I wanted the updates to be easy to find by scrolling through if you just wanted the information and then the inbetween can be fun and more informal.

Once you get a system with coco that works for you then it is a little less demanding. Ideally I wanted more yield and faster and the only way to do that is coco or hydro. I love it but everyday I am training because they are growing so fast. It's what I wanted. I get off work early in the day and have plenty of time before most people get off work to spend time with the girls. My first grow with coco was good but not great. It caused me to do a binge session of research. The beginning of this thread is basically my summary and ideas of it all. So far it looks good and I think a couple other people are using the N-P-K ratios/ppms and having pretty healthy looking plants so far.

Thanks for the kind words and subbing to my journal. I hope you can keep learning as I keep learning. Any questions you have just ask. I try to respond daily and can help if you need it!

p.s. "Little Jack" is growing really fast now and I think will stretch like crazy when I flip to 12/12. I've had underdogs turn out to be my best plants. They are usually fighters.

Mate your training has progressed in leaps bro looking mint .
I'm looking into some breeding too but need to get a couple more indoor grows under my belt first I feel.

Thanks SG! It totally has. You don't realize it until you look back but I was going through one of my other journals thinking the same thing. Then all of a sudden these girls have vegged out of their minds and I've been able to train them even harder than before, causing them to look pretty good! Always nice to have you stopping by SG!

Did you change anything that may have helped them veg more aggressively? They look beautiful mate ,prime examples

For veg I added Rapidstart to my feeds. I also added Great White Mycorrhizae in the transplant holes both the first time the seed was planted as well as the time I transplanted into their final homes. I think this was the most important thing honestly. The rest was more fine tuning but the root enhancers make a crazy difference. The Floralicious+ likely helped as well. I've heard a lot of people that may not use GH but swear by Floralicious+. Didn't have that in veg last time either.

I also like the schedule I came up with in the beginning of this journal. The plants seem to be loving the N-P-K ratios in veg. I was probably a little cal/mag deficient in my earlier grows in the early stages as well. I think ultimately they are just really happy and healthy and have been the whole time. No signs of any issues since the beginning minus "Little Jack" who is the same size as all the others now.

Thanks VS! I did not intend to flux my plants. Most of the fluxing I have seen has been mainlining and then fluxing. This is kind of different because I was going to just LST a little and I ended up tieing the whole thing down. So essentially these are the first ones I am really trying this on. It's an educated guess for sure but I am confident it will produce what I want which is basically nice even nodes supported by big healthy branches.

The only reason I am doing this is because I feel like I have my veg part of my grows down. I know with what I am feeding them and the environment that they are in that they are growing like crazy and are super healthy. I would not be doing this kind of training if they weren't. I was not going to do it with the Jack because it was smaller and it really went nuts in the last week so it got the 4-way flux as well.

Took me a while but I'm here... . ... ps that last grow and harvest... . .. ..

This is only the first grow of many, so in reality you are here in the beginning! Thanks for props on the last harvest. It was a really fun grow. Lots of ups and downs but made the best of everything and learned from it. I have been looking forward to starting these 4 photos for a long time, like months. I knew I had everything that I now needed and I hope to show that I am right. They are off to a pretty good start and I am looking forward to beating that last grow/harvest.

Autos Day 50 - Photos Day 43

A few days ago I trained the girls really hard. It was really hot over the weekend and temps got over 100F in the NW so keeping the area cool was a bit of a challenge. I don't run an A/C because the grow space stays really consistent. The challenge is more low temps in the long winter of rain high humidity but I have a heat vent that goes right there so it makes it easy. Even over 100F the tent never got over 85F and humidity stayed above 45%. Not ideal but good enough.

I am starting to get excited for the autos. They are all budding now and stacking nicely. I can't even begin to think what this Cherry Bomb will do in the end but luckily the others will finish before her and she will have most of the tent to herself. The Headlights is starting to fill in really nice and the Gorilla Glue is frosting up. It's so short I wont get much but what I will get looks like it will be covered in resin.

A little under 3 days ago I trained the photos pretty hard.

What they looked like today. There are 4 budsights in the middle that are starting to grow a little vigorously vertical. They are prime for taking clones but I decided today I will not be doing any cloning this round. I have got so many seeds I want to try it would be a shame not to continue to try new plants. I know where to get more seeds if I like a strain particularly well but I think some of my best genetics are yet to come with some of the seeds I got in my prize pack and want to give the sponsors a grow of their seeds to thank them and show off their goods.

Top left going counterclockwise - White Castle, Amnesia, Jack Herer, Tangerine Dream. I'll also note that the middle colas are not from the undergrowth growing that fast but rather I had pinned all of the branches down as part of the training. I released them after about a day and they stood up strong and healthy. It caused them to not stretch as much as the others and keep things as even as I could. I will still likely have to supercrop them now that I am not taking them off for clones.

Stems are nice and green and thick. Will be able to shoot nutrients to some nice colas, or at least that is the goal anyways.

Thanks Ase. I hope you don't end up regretting inviting me to ask questions! I'll try not to abuse the privilege by hitting you up too often.
I have always lived to travel, too. I'm a bit of an Armchair Anthropologist these days.
I'm currently starting week 2 after 12/12 initiated. Unfortunately, two of the few seed orders that didn't get confiscated by Customs were regular seeds (breeders with no feminized) so I'm trying to cull males atm. The shitter is the few males that have started to show pre-flowers are some of the bushiest and biggest plants. My new veg Grow just germinated are 12 feminized thankfully! I'm never growing regular again. I get a little too attached to my plants to cull (ridiculous, I know) I admired how you ditched your W.Widow so easily!
And if I ever get to a stage where I'm skilled enough to make a journal - I'll be using yours as a template for sure. Really well done. Respect!

I've heard good things from a few people about great white!. I think I've been persuaded now :)

Well, males generally are bigger. It is so they can tower over the females and release their pollen down onto them. This is also why male pods usually are facing down. Fun fact for the day. I also don't think I will ever grow a non-feminized plant again until I get into breeding. I hate having to cull males.

I won't regret having you ask questions, I promise. I'm pretty active on here and I really do like helping others succeed. I would encourage you to start a beginners journal just so people can sub in and help out or cheer you on. Pictures are always a much easier way to tell what is going on. You don't need skills to start a journal. My first one wasn't as nice and organized as this one is. Most people just like pictures anyways ;). Maybe start one for the 12 feminized girls? Journaling isn't for everyone but if you are thinking about it, I say go for it.

I fortunately have plenty of seeds now that I don't get too irked when I have to cull a plant (I used to get attached too, it's only human nature). I just have learned that sometimes its genetics and sometimes its me. Since it was an auto seed it was an easy decision. I would have culled the Jack too if it wasn't for my girlfriend thinking it was the cutest. It was a photo though and since I am in control (plant doesn't flip to flower itself), I knew it was a better risk to keep it. It would either catch up or I could veg it an extra couple weeks if need be. Luckily it just caught up on it's own.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Yeah SG, I will never not use both from here on out. Rapistart makes it easy to feed daily because it's the liquid version and Great White is nice for the transplants and direct applications to the roots. Some people just mix Great White into their feeds instead of using Rapidstart but it's cheaper in my opinion (in the long run) to use both than just Great White. Plants never slowed down at all which is a huge plus and roots were to the top of 3 gallon pots (all of my plants, even the autos) in about 6 weeks.

Day 45 Veg Photos

I had the choice between flipping them today or defoliating one more time and flipping in 4 days (as planned). I think they will grow back to be perfect and if I have to go a couple extra days I will. I have an odd feeling with how fast they are going that they will only need the 4 days. I went hard on them but I think it was a good move. Every node has light again and the opportunity to just grow vertical in the next 4 days. I even loosened up a few stakes to let some branches get a little more vertical now. Trying to keep as many of the nodes as even as possible.

Very healthy plants Ase. Nice size as well. Should give you some nice big girls in flower.
