Ase's Multi-Strain Quadlining In Coco

My challenge in that respect is that things go haywire when I pour water that hasn’t been allowed to sit for a day through the plants. I’d be nervous that warm water that hasn’t been allowed to sit could make things worse.

I don’t disagree with you though, the water temperature has definitely not been great for the plants, and it has been a consistent issue for me. I decided I’d let the water stand in a warm room rather than my unheated furnace room, and that I’d lay it on some insulation so that the floor didn’t make it cold.

They’re doing fine in any case. New growth on all of them looks good. I’m sure they’ll only improve over time with warmer water.

Yes she is finally free! I don't think it'll matter though, the ties weren't really doing anything at this point. She is way too big and strong.

I've never grown a GSC and I thought it'd be shorter but you never really know with genetics. I've had plants that were labeled "100% Indica" and clearly grow a sativa version of it. They had the same smell and flavor of the the Indica version but the leaf structure and highs were definitely a bit different. I've also had some just flat out grow better than others and if that is the case it'd be a superb plant to clone and grow that out for breeding. GSC is hybrid so you never quite know what to expect with hybrids I've found. The only real way to see if this one is a bit different really is to grow out like 4 of these and if this one was clearly taller then the rest then you can determine if it's consistent or different from the rest but since I grow Multi-Strains all the time I never really know to be honest. I just don't grow multiples of the same strain hardly ever. Maybe when I grow it again (who know when that'll be)

Thats true. I wasn't sure if you grew GSC before. I've seen a few different grows with it, Most Ive seen were not necessarily short plants, but they had more spacing in between the nugs. I am just impressed with the plant you have. Every grower has their special recipe. What you have is a happy garden. :bravo:

Thank you so much! I am happy when my plants are happy so right now you have to imagine how stoked I am for all of my plants/tents. As for the GSC I wish she would speed up her development a bit. She took over the DTF as the largest plant in the last couple weeks but she seems like she is a full week (or slightly more) behind the others. As long as she continues to develop I am ok with that but she will likely be the last in the tent by herself for a week or two.

Hopefully this doesn't come off the wrong way but I've grown very few strains twice due to having so many different kinds of seeds. I've only ever made one seed purchase and the rest I've won from contests or events. I had a really good relationship with Gorilla Seeds when they were sponsors and they hooked me up. I've also been fortunate enough to be gifted seeds from people on this forum and that has been a blessing too. I've just wanted to try them all so I just keep growing different strains but someday I'll actually grow multiples of the same strain and start a pheno hunt/breeding. That will only start happening when I buy a house which really should be in the next year or so. I'd guess I still have 7-8 grows that I could do 4 plants each in and not have to repeat strains. There are a couple strains that I've grown in the past that I find myself thinking about though so maybe I'll throw a repeat in my next couple grows so I can start comparing the first time I grew it to the 2nd and look at consistencies and inconsistencies in genetics.

Right now my grow gets down to about 19-20 Celsius at night and about 24-25 Celsius with the lights on

Harrumph! Would love it if my temps looked more like that. :( We have a bit of a heat wave going on here now though mid high 30's is fairly normal this time of year .

Apparently going to get 37 / 38 degrees C on the weekend. Looking at ambient of 35 today with a thunderstorm maybe. Lights off late arvo yesterday i had 32C with 38% humidity. Dealing with cold just not a place i have had to go. :)

The reflective insulation i have sitting on top of the nally bins seems to be working out well. Black bins containing the root zone aren't getting as warm as last time is used them, and a side effect over the grow should be a bit more light getting reflected up under the canopy.

All that said, the tackers seem pretty happy and healthy, growing well. Am now on day 20 and nearly ready to top. So far have not added ANYTHING but water and the plants are not showing any signs of stress or deficiency. Previous grows have seen some deterioration of the first set of leaves on seedlings, but this lot look good. :) Am chilling out, letting them get their 5th node grown out a little and will top according to the instructions early in this thread in a day or so.

I just can’t get enough of people trying out the quadlining technique! I have had many who have done it once and then they never go back to doing anything else so hopefully you have similar results! Patience and not rushing are key so I’m glad you seem chilling out and letting them do their thing.

I agree with that! Patience and being gentle when bending them will go a long way. Otherwise you end up with a triline like the one I have going right now lol

Day 41 Flower Multi-Strain, Day 14 Flower Tangerine Dream

Well the girls keep moving along nicely in the Multi-Strain Temp. They seem to be noticeably fatter then the update 5 days ago and with still about 4 weeks left I think I am going to be a very happy camper this grow. I will really need to watch for mold as it is below freezing in Oregon this week but my hygrometers say the room is staying at a low of 69F and a high of 78F so I can't complain about those temperatures. Even the smaller Double Berry is going to produce more then I thought it would originally.

Side shot.
Front shot.

Double Berry - The smells coming off this plant are incredible. I normally love the citrus/pine smells when growing but this sweet berry smell is unreal. I hope it tastes half as good as it smells.
Girl Scout Cookies - This plant is turning into a monster and starting to see bud development.
Durban ThunderFuck - This one also has some crazy smells going on. It smells like sour, earthy, funk and fuel. I love it because it just smells like it is going to mess you up. The colas are getting a little more spear-like but still a much lesser version of what the ATF did in my last grow.
Purple Trainwreck - I am really excited to see how this one finishes out. She has that classic Trainwreck smell with a bit of sweet to it and I haven't had greatTrainwreck in probably 9-10 years.
A little bonus I noticed which was really exciting is that the Purple Trainwreck is actually turning purple. I've never had this actually happen so I am pretty stoked. It's the only plant of the 4 with any purpling going on and it's only on part of the bud and not any fan leaves so I can't wait to see how purple it finishes. You can see it a little in this cool picture I took. I found a new way to get good colas shots without the camera flash so more like this one to come!

Edit! Tangerine Dream looks good too, forgot to put her picture in the initial update. Should see some aggressive growth for 4-5 more days I’d guess. Sometimes bigger plants stretch a little longer so maybe up to a week. The 4 mains are starting to get above the rest of the other colas but I think it looks like the bigger towers that are on the corners or a castle or something. Really loving this plant and how it’s turning out.

The Girl Scout Cookies I am growing is a Tri-Line. It's probably my biggest girl at the moment.

I don’t think the point with the triline is that it outdoes the quadline - it’s more that the plant can still do well if you damage it. Cannabis is resilient.

For what it’s worth Ase, there are some minor signs of deficiency in my plants, but they’ve definitely bounced back to robust growth since my issues with the cold. The water is holding room temperature now and the tent is staying warm around the clock and the plants are responding.

And I meant to mention before - I disagree with you and VS on veg being more exciting than flower. I get that flower is a lot less work on the plants, but it’s also the time when your work shows how it’ll pay off. To me, sitting and staring at my flowering plants after I’ve vaped is more exciting than bending and snipping!

Hey Ase!!

I wanted to say that learning the quadline has impacted me in a positive way and I will be continuing it through all of my future grows. The overall structure it creates and the look of the plants are just stunning.

I’m also happy that my PE Auto is bouncing back and finally looking like a healthy plant again! No more droopy leaves and her colour is really coming back!

My critical quads are just chugging along and the colas they have stacked up already look fantastic! The frost on them is lovely and I can’t wait to see them in a few weeks!

But all in all I just wanted to thank you for detailing your grows and enabling other growers like myself the opportunity to try your training method!

Hope your doing well!

Here here I second dutch. Thanks so much Ase for everything you do and I as well will be using the quadline method in all my future grows!

Well I've been readin your journal for awhile and I am finally trying your quad method of training not sure how well I'll do but the first topping has been done and oddly enough not all plants were topped the same I ended up keepin some of the third shoots I just couldn't bring myself to trim 'em . if you have time stop by and take a look

:) Been there on a previous grow i was LSTing where i broke a branch about were things had thickened up.

However....wasn't a complete break and of course the actual vascular tissue is all in the outer layers which were still connected on one side of the break. Wrapped it in cling film to hold it together, healed up pretty fast, and kept growing.

They call it weed for a reason...its pretty survivable and tough. :)

It's true, I remember first growing and being so nervous that I was gonna kill them somehow.

But they are quite resilient!

I will for sure! Gotta get used to abusing the plants a little bit. That stress is good for them!

Hi Ase! I hope you are enjoying your vacation! Funny that I found this thread while you are away lol.

I'm on a different forum, and someone sent me a link to this because it reminded them of what I'm doing.

I've been growing for about a year and a half now, and I have only grown autoflowers. I use 4 55w cobs for lighting, and my grow costs $36.50 a month in electricity. I use Megacrop and their additives, along with silica Blast.

Just wanted to get all that info out there so I can get to the juicy part.

During my 2nd grow, I came across mainlining an auto. Lots of people say that you shouldn't do much to an auto because of the short life cycle. However, a guy named green75 showed his grow doing that to an auto and getting great results (6-7 oz per auto).

I started doing that from then on with similar results (5 oz was the most I got off one auto that way.)

Here's where I'll finally reel in this long winded story.

My 5th grow I decided to leave an extra node on my plant instead of just one. I called it a "double mainline" because I hadn't really heard of anyone trying that and didn't really know what else to call it.

That plant gave me 9.8 oz, and completely blew me away. Who would have thought an auto could yield so much?

Was it just the plant, or was it the training?

I decided to experiment for my 6th grow, and used 2 different strains. I grew 2 gorilla glue autos and 2 gorilla glue #4 autos.

I mainlined one of each strain, and double mainlined (which I now know is quadlined lol) the other 2.

My single mainline gorilla glue auto started out funky, and ended up getting pulled before it had a chance to flower. But here's the results for the rest of them:

Single mainlined gorilla glue #4 auto - 66g

Quadlined Gorilla Glue #4 auto - 121g

Quadlined Gorilla Glue auto - 694g.

I ended up with 24.78oz on the gorilla glue auto that was quadlined. I am fully aware that this was just an excellent seed, and that it would have had a good yield regardless, but it probably wouldn't have been 1.5 lbs. I attribute the most of the weight to quadlining.

I'm so glad my friend pointed me to this link. It's cool to see how many other people you have influenced to grow like this. So far, it's definitely my favorite way to grow.

To prove I'm not just story telling, here's some pics of my grows. I currently have a bubba Kush that 35 days from seed. I let this plant get a little too leggy when she was a seedling, so quadlining proved to be a bit more of a challenge for her lol.

Thanks for starting this thread, it's great for people curious about different training techniques than what they are used to seeing.

Enjoy the vacation!

This was my experiment. The bottom two are quadlined, the top two are mainlined.
