Ase's Multi-Strain Quadlining In Coco

Hi Ase! I hope you are enjoying your vacation! Funny that I found this thread while you are away lol.

I'm on a different forum, and someone sent me a link to this because it reminded them of what I'm doing.

I've been growing for about a year and a half now, and I have only grown autoflowers. I use 4 55w cobs for lighting, and my grow costs $36.50 a month in electricity. I use Megacrop and their additives, along with silica Blast.

Just wanted to get all that info out there so I can get to the juicy part.

During my 2nd grow, I came across mainlining an auto. Lots of people say that you shouldn't do much to an auto because of the short life cycle. However, a guy named green75 showed his grow doing that to an auto and getting great results (6-7 oz per auto).

I started doing that from then on with similar results (5 oz was the most I got off one auto that way.)

Here's where I'll finally reel in this long winded story.

My 5th grow I decided to leave an extra node on my plant instead of just one. I called it a "double mainline" because I hadn't really heard of anyone trying that and didn't really know what else to call it.

That plant gave me 9.8 oz, and completely blew me away. Who would have thought an auto could yield so much?

Was it just the plant, or was it the training?

I decided to experiment for my 6th grow, and used 2 different strains. I grew 2 gorilla glue autos and 2 gorilla glue #4 autos.

I mainlined one of each strain, and double mainlined (which I now know is quadlined lol) the other 2.

My single mainline gorilla glue auto started out funky, and ended up getting pulled before it had a chance to flower. But here's the results for the rest of them:

Single mainlined gorilla glue #4 auto - 66g

Quadlined Gorilla Glue #4 auto - 121g

Quadlined Gorilla Glue auto - 694g.

I ended up with 24.78oz on the gorilla glue auto that was quadlined. I am fully aware that this was just an excellent seed, and that it would have had a good yield regardless, but it probably wouldn't have been 1.5 lbs. I attribute the most of the weight to quadlining.

I'm so glad my friend pointed me to this link. It's cool to see how many other people you have influenced to grow like this. So far, it's definitely my favorite way to grow.

To prove I'm not just story telling, here's some pics of my grows. I currently have a bubba Kush that 35 days from seed. I let this plant get a little too leggy when she was a seedling, so quadlining proved to be a bit more of a challenge for her lol.

Thanks for starting this thread, it's great for people curious about different training techniques than what they are used to seeing.

Enjoy the vacation!

This was my experiment. The bottom two are quadlined, the top two are mainlined.

I hope Ase and you sit here and discuss your grow techniques. Give me a couple minutes I am going to go get a new notebook, I am sure I will need it.

Yeah it's why I like to run two tents and almost always have one in veg and one in flower. The flower stage is so boring for me after stretch is over so at least I have one other tent where I can play with the plants. If i can't train plants I get bored quick!
Thats how I am too Ase.....I love looking at them in flower.....but they are boring. The perpetual is perfect for me......always have something at some stage that needs something. Gotta have my hands on them a bit to really enjoy myself with them.

The girls are looking great brother. The frame on that TD is insane. I could have fun with a girl like that! That the frame I am looking for to do that whole 4x4 tent grow with one plant. Is this the first one you have grown of that strain? Man she has me drooling. Like you said back on my journal once....not a lot plants really catch my eye, but that girl is sexy and built to be made BIG.:drool::kiss::kiss::drool::drool::kiss::kiss:

Sorry man, I will stop drooling over your girl........maybe. Seeing her sparked some nice ideas in my mind. Dying to see where you take her!:theband::yahoo:

Day 51 Veg

Just to make sure I show the pictures of when it looks happy and when it looks stressed. Major defoliation today and I even took some of the nodes in the middle off that were growing a little too tall that were gong to be almost impossible to train. They also would have blocked a lot of light to the rest of the plant as well. Normally I just take the under node of the quad lines off but this time I'm taking off that entire node. The top ones are getting too tall and bottom ones still aren't really growing great. I'll do one last post tomorrow on both tents and then will be gone for a week! Should still be able to answer any questions via phone though.

Damn it man!

Love what you are doing to her Ase, but nothing against you......she is the star of the show brother!

Good looking stuff man! As you’ve figured out I’m on vacation so not really on this week but those plants definitely look very similar. Kinda crazy that it might be spreading to other forums. We must think alike if you weren’t on 420 magazine forums before because I’ve only ever seen quadlining here but I do think I’ve got a good system for it and timing is key so they don’t get too lanky to pull it off. Great stuff and look forward to seeing if you do anything differently than I did. Love seeing that “X” shape in any plant. @Dutchman1990 is doing a comparison grow between just LST and quadlining and in my opinion the Quadlines are killing it compared to the others but I’m not there to see it and sometimes pictures are tough to tell. However glad to know you got way better results than mainlining. I came up with quadlining to get great results but a lot faster than mainlining or fluxing and it sounds like your grows have reaffirmed that! Glad to have you around and welcome to our forums. Spread the love on your other forums but this is an incredible community and you’ll love it here too!

Thank you sir! I almost did the DTF in my single tent but this Tangerine Dream is one of my favorite strains and it shot out right from the gate. DTF was growing st the same rate though so made it tough to choose. Good genetics and good training and I’m hoping to really nail it. I’m not sure if I’ll ever do just a single plant again so might as well hit a home run right?

I'll let ya enjoy your vacation, but yes, I definitely plan on discussing our techniques!

Hey Ase, Just started training on the biggest of my seedlings. About 21days old right now.
What's the lowest you've topped your Quadlines? I was almost tempted to top it down to the 1st and 2nd nodes since they were really starting to grow out. I decided against it and followed your method topping at the 4th and cleaning off the bottom two.
It's QuadTime

Good choice HG.

I don’t think I’ve done it lower then 3 or 4. I read somewhere that since those nodes produce 1 and 3 finger leaves, they just don’t send out the right hormones to produce the kind of results you are intending to with quadlining. I’ve never tried it so that might just be BS though. However, I mainly do it at 3 and 4 to give me enough space to water underneath them since I hand water. Nodes 1 and 2 would be right on the coco and make things more difficult. Topping at 1 and 2 would also be at a way too young of a time for the plant since I top as soon as possible. I realize your plant is a lot bigger already and you are topping down a few nodes so this wouldn’t be a factor but if you did it asap like I normally do it would.

Your plant looks fantastic now and ready to be quadlined so I think you made a great choice. The size is perfect.

I don't know that is completely true on the 1st and 2nd node, regarding 1 and 3 finger leaves. 3s early on yes.... but I like to leave those nodes on for clones and let them get 8 inches or so before taking them. I am pretty sure I have gotten 5 and 7 bladed fan leaves down there. Makes me want to top one at the 3rd node and mainline the 2nd node to see what happens.

I certainly agree that your best bet for vigor is to go with the 3rd and 4th nodes as opposed to the lower ones.

Yeah if you let it grow and top it back I don’t think it matters because the roots are really well developed and the plant can handle it.
