Antics Power Flower - Cali Jack FIM Grow

Tiny update. One 45w bulb blew today. Replaced with a 13w that I had available. I should have more in the garage, so I'll check on that tomorrow.

So total wattage is now down to 351 watts for two plants.

This is the second bulb that has blown on me, from the same order. Large CFL (Usually rated 40-45w) with a teal/greenish band around it is bad news. I'm not buying those pieces of shit again. I'll get a picture of the bulb up tomorrow so you guys can avoid it in the future. I have had no problems with any of the other bulbs I'm using.

Ok as promised, this is the bulb that blew on me yesterday:

I bought a pack of 4, started using them in my first grow, one blew during the first grow if I remember correctly, and I just figured maybe it was a fluke. Now this one blew last night. My 23w bulbs have had no issues, and have seen the same amount of use.

And a little update too, at day 46 of Flower, Power Flower has a handful of amber trichomes starting to develop now on a few spot checks. Trichomes are also mostly cloudy. I'm going to go over the whole plant later tonight to get an idea how far along we are, and the harvest date might be a lot sooner than I thought. I was thinking I'd end up going 1-2 weeks past the 56-63 day range (8-9 weeks) since I'm only using CFLs, but damn. This is pretty cool! And so much faster than I expected!

If I wasn't too big to do cartwheels, I would probably do one right now!

I'm so jealous, My Power Flower probably will be only at about week 12. She is slow. Started slow and continues slow.

Dude wtf are you talking about? Your Power Flower looks really good.

And get some updated pics in your journal! It's been a few pages since we've seen Power Flower!

great read thus far.. good luck on your grow ..

Thanks man! I'm currently enjoying some of my last grow, which is in my signature if you're bored. I made a bunch of different mistakes there, and my first grow taught me a lot, which has in turn helped this grow out to be better than the last, and hopefully a higher yield.

And a tiny update since I'm here!
Power Flower is done with nutes now, and looks about a 7-10 maybe 11 days from harvest. I'm stoked for that.

Cali Jack has a bit more time to go. Maybe a week or two on top of that.

I've also noticed some nugs on CJ are bigger than the nugs on PF. Obviously density will come into play, but with CFLs I'm not expecting very dense buds, but I do expect the same, if not better quality than my last grow.

And now.. before I ramble on too much (I ramble A LOT when I smoke lol) I'm going to grab myself a light snack, and catch up on a little TV time before bed.

Have a good night everyone, and may your bongs, pipes, vapes, and oil syringes always be filled with the finest quality Cannabis you can grow!

Thanks Lexblaze!

And miniature update time.

Day 48 of flower:

Power Flower watered, no nutes.

Cali Jack watered/nutes. 12ml grow, 7ml micro, 20ml bloom. No molasses used. I'm doing this pattern of molasses feeding to prevent a build up of sugars. which I'm hoping eliminates seeing any fungus gnats appear in the grow since I had a few appearing early on.

So far I haven't had any new unwelcome visitors, and I'd like to keep it that way lol.

I'll get some pictures tonight to complete this update.

And here come the pictures.

"All I have in this world is my balls and my word, and I don't break 'em for no one. You understand?"

+Reps for the first person who correctly tells me what movie that quote is from, AND who said it. Actor name and/or character name will be accepted!

I felt it was an appropriate quote, since I don't always have time for pictures, so I have to promise to do it later :)

Anyways, here are the pictures of Power Flower:

Power Flower doesn't show the same ambers as I saw on the one bud site, through the rest of the plant, so I'm going to let it grow another week or so to get some more cloudy trichomes.

If I'm patient enough, I'm letting Cali Jack go until I have a 50/50 cloudy/amber ratio, since it's an Indica, and I plan to use it for a sleep aid mostly.

Sounds correct to me. *reps*

Looking good Antics. Are you going to try the "back building" technique, as explained by Light Addict?
LA's Quick Guide To Simple Backbuilding Technique For Buds!
I did it on my last grow but I didn't document it, it did seem to help vs bud that were left alone.

No shit man, I just read about that the other day lol. I'm not sure if it'd be effective on PF, since she's only about 7-10 days from the starting harvest window. Cali Jack would be a better candidate for sure, she's got another 2-3 weeks or so.
But what the hell.. this site is all about learning and trying new shit. I'll give it a test.

I have 4 main tops on PF, and 3 on CJ. These are my thickest and top most branches on each plant. I'll look them over tomorrow and choose 3 to snip on PF, and 2 to snip on CJ, keeping one middle sized branch on each uncut as a control. We can see how it works with pictures, and we'll see how well it improves the weight and density, if at all on each plant. After drying, I'll cut each branch to as equal length as possible, and we can weigh them in and see how they turned out.

I'll figure out what to do to identify them, maybe tie a ribbon or something on the control tops, and leave the others blank or something.

I just happened to be at the right place at the right time for a change LOL. Thanks for the reps!

Well send some of that luck over here. I could use some for a nice harvest!

You might want to hold off on PF, I didn't realize you were that close to harvest with her. That may not be enough time to finish PF properly...but the Cali Jack should be okay.

Yeah PF is real close. She's done with nutes, she has a few ambers showing now too. Total Flower time listed is 56-63 days (8-9weeks). She's on day 48 today. So I'll give it a shot on Cali Jack this time. She's doing insane already anyways. The buds are thicker than PF already, and she runs 63-77 days (9-11 weeks) to harvest.

Here's some luck :goodluck: and some +reps for a strong grow journal!

Much appreciated brother! Nice pistils in your journal too :bravo:

Ok since MikeTBob wants me to risk a Hermy since I don't know what I'm doing, we're going to do just that lol.

This experiment is being done based on LA's writeup here: LA's Quick Guide To Simple Backbuilding Technique For Buds!

Today is day 49 of flower. The experiment will be run on Cali Jack only. Cali Jack runs a 9-11 week harvest time, which is 63-77 days.

Cali Jack has 3 main tops with similar sized branches. I decided to use the top 2 branches that are opposite each other, assuming those will give me the most reliable results to compare, and should have the most similar growth at the present time. Pots are turned every day, so all bud sits are receiving equal lighting.

Up until today (If this goes hermy, I'm blaming you Mike lol), I have had no signs of a hermy. No balls, no nanners, no bolting. Very minimal stress throughout the grow, no serious deficiencies, no wilted leaves, no over watering, and no under watering. I currently have a slight Nitrogen abundance, with slightly darker leaves, and minimal curling tips on only a few leaves.

I have taken 3 pictures of each bud site for a comparison.

This will be the control, that doesn't get cut:

This will be the bud site that I cut:

Scissors showing where I'll cut:

2014-08-18_10-05-23_825.jpg

Cuticle scissors work great for pruning, trimming, topping etc.. Nice and sharp, and very accurate. The curve at the tip makes it great for reaching around bud sits, leaves, branches, to snip something as well. But the finger holes are too Effing small for me.

This is what was removed. That is a standard Zippo lighter for size reference:
