Well let's do an update since Zabka has a question, and he's growing a Cali Jack too, so I'm throwing in a couple canopy pics of both plants, and some FIM progress pictures from start to finish, just for you and your girlfriend Zabka.
Thanks for the compliments. I'm very proud of how well this grow is going compared to my last grow. Without
, I wouldn't know what I do now, and I wouldn't have made this much progress this fast. I still have a very long way to go, but I think I'm going to be able to improve and make each grow better than the last.
Cali Jack supposedly has a 9-11 week flower period, which is 63-77 days. I am 42 days into flower now. So I have somewhere between 21-35 more days for Cali Jack, or a little more.
Now some updates: First, the smell. DAMN! Power Flower had this real strong smell that I didn't know what it was, and now I know, it's the strongest, most concentrated pine scent I have ever smelled. Very sweet smelling pine though.
Cali Jack is a decent, yet mild skunky smell, pretty typical Cannabis smell from what I've seen so far.
Sticky. Sticky. Sticky. Both plants are extremely sticky. I actually lowered my fan to prevent any random air particles from being blown onto the buds. (still running 2 fans 24/7 for circulation though)
Both plants are producing trichomes up the fan leaf petioles, and onto the fan leaves.

Now this bit is for you and your girlfriend, Zabka, and for anyone else curious as well. I did a FIM on both of my plants. In a FIM you're cutting about 80% of the new growth off, and leaving a little behind. Where in Topping, you cut all the new growth off. Topping is going to be easier for your first grow, next grow, you can give a FIM a shot (or if you feel daring now, give it a try!) If you mess up a FIM and don't cut enough off you'll just end up with the whole single top growing back, or if you cut too much off, you'll just end up with a topped plant.
I used cuticle scissors, which have a slight curve to them, and although they're nice and sharp, they stunted my FIM growth on Cali Jack. I only had 3 tops for a while.
*** Keep in mind I turn my pots regularly, so the cut isn't always oriented the same way ***
Here you can see the progress of the Cali Jack FIM site:
First cut. You can kinda see how the cut is slanted.. ie: too much cut off of one side:
This picture you can see one 'nub' growing, and really nothing happening on the left side:
Here you see good growth coming in on half, but at this time not much happening on the other side yet:
Now here, one side is growing normal, and you can finally see a tiny bit of growth on the other side of the FIM here:
Here we FINALLY see some real growth, but this has been very, very, slow. This growth took 19 days:
And these two branches below that I'm holding are the result of that tiny nub of growth from the FIM:
The buds you see on those 2 branches were the result of that tiny little nub being allowed to grow. If that nub was under the canopy, I would have chopped it immediately. But being right at the top I gave it a chance, and that'll probably end up being 1/2-1 gram just on those two little branches. Just be patient with your grow. NEVER be afraid to ask questions, and read, read, read! Follow other journals, and definitely read this page a lot:
