I've never really obeyed the dark period thing. The only time I'd put mine in the dark is if I needed the room and didn't have time to chop it. I noted that I was doing it and checked for any difference and there was nothing obvious. I believe the best reason is to induce some early conversion to sugars for a better taste? HB already tastes pretty sweet so ... dunno. My feeling is that it's old lore, like flushing.

Thanks Duggan! It'll be interesting to see the difference from WWXBB 1 which I did not clear up her underside.

So it dried quickly and the total is 102 grams, pretty much what I had guessed.

So, I'm a little bummed about this crop and my 1st, not because of quantity but because of quality. Both came out very fluffy and not sticky at all. I was surprised this one came out fluffy because the buds were huge, dense and pretty firm when squeezed but after about 28 hours of darkness that firmness was gone and they were quite soft, they dried real quick and are fluffy.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I suspect my carnival which is due to come down very soon will have at least some stickiness based on resin forming on the buds but can tell the buds are going to be on the fluffy side too.

I know I need more practice but would like to dial this in sooner than later.

Thats so strange, because just last night as I cut a small lower branch of my White walker kush ( White Widow x Skywalker OG )
I was really impressed by how sticky it was. More than usual even. So you would think with a strain know for its frost and another called big bud, that you would end up with some really solid dense buds. Most likely just some bad luck.

It is possible I got it mixed up with my money maker. I was certainly expecting it to be much more frosty but the buds are very big.

Morning Ween, my thoughts on dark before chop. Ever see those time laps films of plants going thru their cycles.....notice how the leaves rise and fall every photoperiod...this is because after lights out the plant 'dumps' it's nutrients back into the soil for the dark period , leaving the leaves all limp looking. The nutrient pathways are nearly empty of fluids causing this....this is when we want to harvest and why I keep them in the dark for 24 hrs. or so before chop....not to increase resin (doesn't happen) but to take the plant while all the fluids are still in the dirt. I've always done this and have done multiple comparisons over the yrs. and darkness does NOT increase resin content but makes total sense to harvest before the plant sucks up all it's nutrients for the upcoming day. Hope this helps a few members decide how and when to chop! Have a great day Ween and Gang!

I used this practice in the two harvests I've been through but I had no idea why it was beneficial. This clears that up perfectly. Thanks duggs.

Ween, it is why I no longer grow anything x BB because they aren't very frosty and they aren't that dense. White Widow by herself is a pretty good yield and nice smoke.

It should be perfectly alright to chop after a GE drench. If anything, it should make the buds a bit sweeter.

When the proper nutrients are available to the plant and everything else is good , that you know of...it's the main 'limiting factor' , your light. More stronger , proper light = bigger , fatter buds. Less light, less size and density they will have OK! If your buds are not big and solid by chop time nothing ,and I mean nothing will get them that way. Ween , I recommend getting more light to them or look at the existing spectrum of your lights. If you look at my lights , you can see there is an awful lot of pars hitting the plants , all the time. If I went by manufacturers guidelines I have enough light for a room four times the size ....DON'T go by their guidelines....double it , at least...then you will see big , fat buds OK! Ask Doc...he agrees ...always double the manufacturers guidelines. Cheers bud!

So, my buds are plenty big, they just came out fluffy, maybe I am drying wrong....?

I don't think light is an issue, I have LEDs Goliath in there and there really isn't any room for any more lights but I do have two 600w hid HPS/MH and 2 Mars hydro 96 led 205ws (these I could probably put on the sides...?) should I move my final plant closer to the light once I harvest the carnival? it's currently about 3 feet below the Goliath.

Try to get the light within 18 inches when they have about 3 weeks left, right when they are going to blow up. My buddy had his 2 feet above the plants, then I went there when there was 3 weeks left and lowered it to 18 inches.

He ended up pulling over 2 pounds from 1 Goliath. He grew Gorilla Glue 12 and Green Cracks (a lower yielded one). All from clones that he grows a lot. He knows these strains well.

Ween, have you seen those "hash tips" on some of my buds and colas?....when you see this , you know your flirting with the maximum usable light the plant can 'handle'. Your cola there looks good, but it's NOT solid, i can tell. Still really nice though bud! If you get the plants closer next round , you will have more solid buds....and ya, this is a good time of year to throw an extra light in there....i would if i were you....but that's just me Ween...i'm weird that way! cheers bud.

Those "hash tips" i referred to , are the white tips of some of the main buds have. They are white cuz the chlorophyll has been bleached out of them from too much light. Not sure exactly what spectrum causes this to happen , but , i know as Doc does too, that it's a common occurrence under extreme levels of LED lights. I heard someone call them "hash tips' . Just a term given to them. Has no effect on potency , one way or the other...and looks the same under a scope. The green just isn't there. Anyhow , cheers you guys!

I understand and agree about pouring on more light in the flower room - what about more light during the veg stage?

Will more light in veg create more overall yield (per same size plant going into the flower room) ?
or
Will the girls simply veg faster to flowering size?

Hey Rad , good Q's. sir! More light during veg, does just what you said ...it speeds up the whole process and therefor the plant is generally bigger , stronger and more 'ready' to bloom. this is not my opinion, this is just the way it is..... As soon as my plants are making the 'footprint' of the Budmaster not enough,...that's when they get the Advanced too. Then when i flip...they get the additional two Dorm Grow 240's. and the two Dorm Grow 90W ufo's. Seems to be working well for me this way. The light that really put it over the top for me is the used Advanced xte 400. It has a different spectrum than the Budmaster so i feel the plants are very satisfied with what's going on. As well, i just leave all the lights at their highest position and let the plants grow 'up' to them. however i still got some 'hashtips' this grow , but not many , and not as prominent. Anyhow , gotta few plants to harvest...later Rad and Gang!
