Amy Gardner's First Journal - Outdoor - Critical Cure & Chaos In The Forest

Ooh that’s a beauty! lovely photo Gray :)

as it turns out, Ice (Female Seeds) - which is probably not packing the punch it would if grown bigger with better light - is quite nicely relaxing, giving a smooth mood and feels like it will let me wind down nicely to bed. I think I’ll only have about 6grams of it once dry. It’s going to be a nice occasional go to for an evening movie :volcano-smiley::popcorn:

so hang on to that leaf for a bit.

Oops ! Too late :eek::rofl:

Update: The Mini Harvest!

The harvest festival continues around here :cheer:

Yesterday afternoon I took down the 2 littlest solstice babies, Ice (Female Seeds) and Golden Tiger x Northern Lights #1. To say I took them down is a bit of a misnomer because they were so close to the ground already! Anyway, they got chopped. Here are their final portraits :)

If I train like this in the future, I won’t make them so close to the ground and I’d probably wait until I had longer veg time to play with. Still, I’m pretty happy to get something out of them. The seeds were free (the Ice was a purchase freebie and the GTxNL is from a friend) and the soil was just there anyway so they’re a complete bonus!

Pre-wash...

They got washed like always and hung out to dry for a while....

Post-wash

It wasn’t very sunny or breezy and because it was an afternoon harvest (not my usual preferred early morning), I ended up letting them hang a little ways from the fireplace for an hour in the early evening (while they were still dripping a bit) before moving them to the cabinet to hang for a few days.

This is the wet weight for the Ice - about a 1/4oz dry I’m guessing.

I ddn’t take a wet weight from the other one but I’m guessing somewhere around an ounce? All good fun. The GT x NL should be lovely, like PW says, and the Ice is very relaxing - I slept really well last night!

And Then There Was ONE!

This one is recovering fairly well from the depletion ordeal - even the stems (which had faded to pale yellow) have recovered a bit of colour these last few days.

The trichs on this one are looking like this ...

So I’m preparing to harvest it sometime in the next week. There’s not many clear trichs left at all and the rate of new pistils has slowed down in the last week, so harvest window is close - maybe even already open.

The micro critter pics have been thick and fast these last couple of days so I’ll sign off now and bring more critters of the week with the next update.

:Namaste:

Bonus harvest always = good harvest! I'd be afraid to train that close to the ground just because of all the beasties living at soil level, so brave on ya. When you take down the GTxNL I'll be curious to see if it rooted into the soil or didn't bother sending anything new out at that late stage. "Enquiring minds want to know" :).

Even now that I know about the waste basket it's still discombobulating! Particularly because it's next to things hanging upside down.

My own enquiring mind wants to know that too! :thumb:

Excellent! I love a bit of discombobulation o_O :slide:

It’s actually very handy for buds that you can’t hang (in the absence of a drying rack). These ones are the bigger buds from the Money Bush that were still a bit wet for the jar - so they came out and spent 24hrs in the discombobulating basket. ;)

Oh, and on the MoneyBush...

Almost 4oz dry. Gotta be happy with that out of the Bush Pod!

Like it that you don't go trim crazy on your buds. I don't either. Specially if they got mad crystals on them.Feel like they protect the flower more. Half the time i am making butter or oil so they don't have to be beautiful. They are still cute to me regardless.
Yes - me too! It’s actually a symptom of being too wrecked by the harvest activity to do any more! But I remember when the older growers I knew used to just pull a plant and hang the whole thing with hardly any trim (in the 70s? - I was like 12yo). Graytail also said sometimes he leaves the leaves on a bit too, to protect the buds - just like you say. These are mostly for oil as well (pain cream here I come!). I do plan to give some away to my garden helper to smoke so I’ll dry trim those for him (and any others I give away too).

Post that pain cream recipe when you make it. Highly interested.

You might get more pain cream recipes than there are ways to grow! Everyone has a fave :)
Yep exactly - I plan to experiment with a version of Dave Groomer’s recipe - but like Shed, I’m interested in making a straight oil. I’m not a big fan of waxes or creams on my skin and you’ll notice (if you check that link) that Shed talks about the straight oil being more effective.

I think Sue’s version of the recipe uses 8hrs in the oven for the infusion stage as well - I’ll probably do that.

I plan to blend the infused grape seed oil with Fractionated Coconut Oil and or sweet almond as I’ve heard the grape seed is so efficient in absorbinginto the skin that it can disappear before you spread it around very much!

I’ll be sure to post the process and the results!

Just want one that really works and i'll be happy Shed:high-five:

According to SweetSue - for pain you want high THC. Although I’m thinking about adding some CBD buds to it as well for their anti-inflammatory properties. Just need to research whether the CBD is actually taken up as a topical...

Yes! I was on the phone and Amy beat me to it :). I find straight oil better and actually less greasy in the end over the stuff I made with beeswax as a thickener. And high THC is a must. I use a spreadsheet from Oldbear to calculate the percentages to make sure I'm over the 10 mg/ml I find helpful. (I can post a link and instructions if anyone's interested, or just PM me.)

According to SweetSue, CBD works as an internal anti-inflammatory and isn't useful as a topical.

My recipe for oil is simple:
Decarbed bud (lots of it) crumbled, grapeseed or pumpkin seed oil (both absorb quickly) or fractionated coconut oil (not the regular stuff) if you like a more oily oil.

Into a crock pot or a pot or a magic butter machine or a jar in the oven, all should be around 180º F for 6-8 hours. Shake/stir as often as you can. Let it cool. Strain and use!

[edit: So many people like this oil that there are folks in my office who have bottles of it at home and stop by my desk to use mine when they're here!]
