Amy Gardner's First Journal - Outdoor - Critical Cure & Chaos In The Forest

Just thought I'd mention a good quality rosemary oil might work for you - rosemary is my go to for relieving/mitigating headaches so hopefully that'll work for you. I'm going to try to make some form of this just for massage oil - can I diffuse/decarb dry herb into fractionated coconut oil?
Oftentimes, if strong essential oils trigger headaches it can be because they're impure and full of nasty additives, or used extraction methods that give rise to nasty byproducts. That may not be the case in your case but I know I have to be really fussy about my oils!
(from Sep 26, 2017)
You've been pitching rosemary oil for a while now ;). Headaches, cutting the smell of topicals, and mighty mite killer!

You will be assimilated!!!

 Maybe resistance is futile, but Captain Janeway all but took out the Borg, including the Queen, by introducing a pathogen ... she had to get herself assimilated to do it tho’ ... so yeah... not sure where I’m going with that!

There was still a live mite spotted this morning. I sprayed again...

Man! This money bush is super stanky! Smells like petrol cherry cola flavoured bubble gum! It’s knocking us out o_O

I managed to eliminate them, but that was indoors, under controllable conditions. It's how I started making FHO. No way was I gonna lose that plant. :battingeyelashes:

Happy Harvest Day Amy! :yahoo: :slide: :yahoo:

Thanks Sue :slide: It was fun. Pretty wrecked now!

What methods did you employ to eliminate them...? :hmmmm:

Harvest Update: The Bush Pod :cheer:
Money Bush (Heavyweight, Afghani x Critical Mass)

Since the last photo update on this one was so recent I’m juts going to charge into it!

It’s down :slide:

Finally the relative humidity outside has dropped. Today is very dry, In hte 40-50% range. Too dry? maybe. but with the risk of rot I’m fine with it for the minute. A quick dry won’t hurt under the circumstances.

Was a lovely day with strong breezes and plenty of sunshine :Namaste:

This one is the most pungent plant I’ve ever grown. My friend had to stop as the fumes were making her feel weird and cough a bit! Petrol and cherry rose flavoured bubblegum. It’s quite ‘thick’ in my room at times!

Little update on the bugs soon..... :volcano-smiley:
:Namaste:

:thumb: I'll be buying some as soon as I get the dead-mite report!
Nothing definitve at this stage...

Two living, crawling mites were spotted this morning and were subsequently eliminated by hand after being photographed. Google research tells me that they are European Red Mites although in places “spider mites” articles include photos of these. There are “spider mites” that fit other descriptions too, like the 2 spotted mite. The eggs of the European Red mite are described as dark though so maybe I have more than one kind of mite. There’s a mite that predates on them that has eggs like that. Perhaps a ‘mite war’ is taking place on my plants! Anyhooo, here’s the creepy crawlies. Shed, a few shots down are some pics that may be dead ones. They may also be discarded shells because apparently they moult...

I manually brushed all the leaves off after checking that the action was efficient in squashing and removing things. It is a very small plant so that wasn’t too labour intensive. If I can manage it, I’ll do another spray tomorrow morning. The rosemary doesn’t seem to be bothering the plant and it might be doing something! There’s always the Eco-oil if needs be.

The plant doesn’t look to bad considering

And here’s the enclosure crew now - the solstice babes have taken over

I think I’ve possibly had these mites for a while. Early on the dots on the leaves were in little squiggly lines like Sue mentioned and because I could see the odd white fly here n there, I didn’t pay it a lot of mind. It escalated a bit of late and may have been a bit of mite activity all along. In any case, there’s predators too. Indeed, this one got quite aggressive towards me when I started messing with the mites - came at the macro lens and all! It’s about 7mm across.

I’ve been hoping I can coast these last 3 along to finish (and myself along with them!). If The Borg get out of hand I may just pull them early. I’m not sure I have enough left in the tank for a battle with the Borg. Besides, I’m already learning that once into April the direct sun hours in this spot get a lot lower. It’s full sun from about 9am-1230pm and shaded and dappled sun the rest of the time. Not ideal finishing conditions. Considering flowering starts anywhere from early to mid January (if the plants are mature enough) I’m going to need to keep it to 8-10week chemovars to stay in better flowering conditions, and until I sort out another spot (I have a cuning plan for one but it’s a season or 2 away...). Here in the raised bed, my plants will finish much better if they don’t need to go past the end of March.

:Namaste:

Impressive photo work! Wow!

Love the predator! :thumb:
Haha thanks Gray!

Seriously, all my macros are taken using the trick I picked up from SweetSue of holding a loupe in front of my phone lens. I’ve enhanced the technique by using a rubber band to hold it in place - it’s a very sophisticated operation!

Hey Ames just wanted you to know that it has been a pleasure and somewhat of inspirational experience to watch your grow.... I am gonna grow outdoors as well, as most people know, and its kinda cool our seasons are somewhat opposite.. We can have a perpetual yearlong grow outdoors together... lol.... Anyway just wanted you to know I usually get my mites and bud rot in my experience late in the grow as the moisture level rises and temps overnight drop lower.... I tend to be extremely watchful and harvest buds as the rot starts as apposed to letting it grow out and waste half anyway... Kinda goes with the territory outside... As far as the bugs, I kinda think of it as giving back to nature by letting them get their fill on what is basically ointment stuff after harvest for me anyway...Green Days and For You I guess Nites lol

As much as I love the up close macro of the buggies this one is beautiful too.

Cheers:cheer:

Pretty and informative, just how I like my posts! Those mites are definitely red (which mine weren't) so if there's a red species you've got'em. Damn Europeans sending all sorts of baddies your way ;).

I had no idea they shed their exoskeleton. I thought those were dead ones in my pics but turns out they were healthy and molting :-O

Beautiful harvest pics. Someday you will explain (if you haven't already) the disorienting waste paper basket in the drying area.

:Namaste:

Yeah...that is really an object that screws with my comprehension. I think she did it on purpose....Great write up Amy!!!
