Amy Gardner’s High Brix Dreams

Update: Blue Dream (day 38)

The moon is a couple of days into its waning cycle which means, according to lunar gardening lore, that energy begins to move into the soil and root development is more supported than new growth. Of course new growth still happens but slower - the energetic support from the moons relationship to the earth is for roots at this time. So I’m pleased that it’s just about time for a full TP drench. Pot is drying out and hopefully it will be tomorrow.

I wonder when I’m going to top it ...

I usually would have by now but that’s an old habit so this time I decided to wait a while nd now I’ve become mesmerised by the 9 bladed leaves shooting out the top! If it was outdoors, I prob’ly wouldn’t top it at all. I’m wondering if I mightn’t just supercrop the main top and hope the others come up to meet it. Hmmm. There is certainly no shortage of tops coming in :thumb:

Growth did well after the GI drench and there’s been a ‘Transwater’ since then (plain water with TP Drench added at 1/4 strength). As we’ve all noticed its been getting super crowded in there and a few things prompted me to give it a bit of a prune and trim to open things up a bit. It’s about the right time for that - plus in the last 4weeks I’ve killed 3 single fungus gnats (by squishing them ninja style with my fingers) and I know that’s not many so I’m not worried, just watching. The denseness of the low foliage meant that today, when the pot is feeling quite lightweight, the top of the soil is more damp than you’d expect and not getting much air - and fungus gnats (if there are any more) would love that... i mean look at how thick that skirt is...

So I washed up and sterilised the clippers and did a bit of clearing...

...and just a little LST to open things up a bit more...

Employed some stankClips in a couple of spots...

And put her back in place looking quite a bit better I think! (The triploiod branch front n centre)

As it turned out the triploid branch is literally one of the first ones - had planned to remove them but in the end I only took of one of them that had been a bit buried and hadn’t come on so much.

It could be a clone - but i’m not set up for that so instead its going to garnish my lunch :yummy: along with some of the other trim

For me...

For the worms

For Duggan and Stage

Moon wise it wasn’t technically the best time to trim if you’re trimming for new growth as the growth cycle with regard to the moon is just ending. I’m not too fussed though, it really need the air flow and there’s plenty of time for a growth spurt. Like I said it will still grow during the waning moon of course and we’re right at the start of that quarter so it will make little difference. I wouldn’t do a trim like this, or a trim looking for new growth at the end of this quarter during the fully dark moon for example.

So tomorrow I think it’ll be ready for a Transplant Drench then 2 weeks of waning to dark moon for the roots to get their groove on with plenty of foliage to feed the herd. It’ll be 7 days since Brix foliar tomorrow too, so that will work out perfect to do it a day or 2 after the Drench.

That was a fun morning on the tiny farm! Thanks for stopping by :ciao:

All tucked back in...

cheers wings :thumb: yeah it was the fungus gnat friendly environment that really clinched the decision to trim it up today.

That’s a lovely mutation :D

IKR! :D

Triple branches can’t be a bad thing right? Looking great!
:passitleft:
Totally... I’m not going to be able to bring myself to trim it off... the branch stays. We have to see it grow out!

I’m wondering if mosquito dunks are available in some form in Aus. I dont think I have a gnat problem - I didnt see a single one today while doing all that fiddling around... it’s only been those few over the last 3-4weeks but it’s worth being prepared just in case. What’s in mosquito dunks I wonder... :nomo::surf:

Those mosquito dunks use some form of bacteria to kill the lil buggers... pretty cool. But tbh as long as you let that soil dry proper between feeding its hard to even get em... Like NW420 said... they hate dry soil.

Looking really great!! Such a beauty you have there.

Hiya Amy G,

I brought your picture of your Blue Dream with me because she is so beautiful! Symmetry is astounding! Or mesmerizing (@Mr. Magoo ), lol. If it were mine, I'd make it my profile pic. Gorgeous.

I like the "stank clips"! Nice job with your trimming. I had to laugh because of your "toe" picture. They'll appreciate it!

Thanks bode :D

I know - I was pleased because that pic was taken last after the little bit of LST and I didn’t look from that angle until I took the picture :)

I’m too attached to my avatar pic to change it ;) I took it while on holiday in Hawaii. I have been twice to hangout on the north shore of Oahu and had planned to go every year (or every 2 years at least) but health concerns are showing me a different path for now. The avatar shows me the feeling of being there...

Not sure if they’ll even see it! Stage is on walkabout it seems and Duggs hasn’t been by here for a little while...

Hey I totally left this pic out of the update yesterday...
I ended up accidentally kneeling on one of the leaves I had pruned off, for quite a while... it left an imprint in my kneeling mat!

Nice huh!? :D

And just because I can - things look great after the pruning and LST :slide: (quick snap through the window)

No drench needed yet! Must be close though, it super light. :slide:

I missed these earlier...
You could always clone it when you prune ;) It could be a cool experiment to see how the triploid grows out :p

That would be interesting... hmm. I wonder if it would start flowering too soon though, as I have no way of making it veg longer when I clone it - unless I clone it now. But then I might lose it- I’ve never cloned before. Wouldn’t want to end up with no triploid! That said... what’s life without a little risk! Ima gunna think on this...
What do you mean by testing the soil? Like seeing what the composition/ph is like? I still have to get a soil ph tester damnit lol.

So Im having it tested so it can be amended for use with the high brix kit. So that’s for composition, mineral content and availability, cation exchange capacity (CEC) etc. And other things that I don’t understand enough to relay :battingeyelashes:

Last year I made my own soil outside and only tested PH once or twice out of curiosity. If you’re growing organically and have your soil nicely balanced and well buffered then the ph should take care of itself. The only time I lost mine (ph dropped) was in a pot, when we had rain and it got leached and I wasn’t on top of keeping it top dressed with goodies or adding some tea to it (vermicompost, stinging nettle tea). Some wood ash and tea sorted that out. :thumb:

I’m still learning, but most of the experienced organic gardeners I’ve come across say that ph is not something they ever bother to check - if their soil is good and balanced, the ph will alway be fine so this is the tack I’ve tried to take with it.

In the kit soil, it is just buffered and always around 6.7 (I think that’s what Doc says, maybe 6.5) - but I don’t know anyone who ever bothers to check it!

Are you doing an organic grow when you grow outside nightwings? Or using synthetics?

:Namaste:

I’m sure it is Gaz! That’s pretty close to where I go. I was there for the surfing. Had the best weed I’ve ever had. Don’t know what it was called, the guy I got it from was our chef and one of the surf coaches. He said it was dakine from a local grower. It was. It was amazing - no speediness but beautifully high and no come down at all. Wish I’d known enough then to ask about the strain :)

I haven't used synthetic fertilizers since 2013/14 indoors or outdoors. I mostly use organic seaweed for feeding, I have a root booster which is pure aloe juice (everything blended in a food processor) plus some other stuff to keep the plants happy. Nature and ingenuity provide me with more than enough fertilizers to keep me from ever spending money on fertilizers. There is one organic liquid fert i used to use but I ran out and haven't been bothered to find anymore since seaweed does the job for the most part really :)
