AKGramma's Perpetual Grow

Hey AK.. Just catching up on your journal.. You should try these led lights from twilight groups. They are looming for growers to test the lights. Give jason a pm about them.. I have 2 ufo leds that i got from them by simply paying the shipping and i love them even though they are the older model lights they work great..

EDIT: WOW, your specs came up as soon as I posted this. I don't have 40" extra headroom above the tops of the plants.

Who is offering the deal, and I need the link to his site.

Jason has a forum on here.. He has many different style leds. Give me one min and ill get you a link

TY for the link. It's not very likely that I am going to win the most likes, so I'll have to wait for the prices to be uploaded. However, I AM on the hunt for a used MARS 300 from someone who is going to upgrade. I WANT to try LEDs. if I can manage the extra head room, but if heat becomes an Issue, I will have to come back to the CFLs.

Thank you so much for putting the photos up for me. I sincerely appreciate it! You should have a look on eBay or gumtree. There is a heap of used hydroponic equipment on there, as well as brand new stuff people have bought and not used. If you were in Aus, I'd buy you one just for being so friendly!

Sypherz, thanks for PM'ing me the info on the Twilight Group LEDs. I'd reply but my post count isn't high enough yet!

I forgot to mention that I checked the Lady who has been in flower 4 weeks and she is starting to show trics on the sugar leaves. Still 100% white hairs, so I hope she keeps putting out those trics up through harvest. I've read good things about BBL, and I'm taking much better care of this grow than the last.

I finally broke down and ordered a Mars 300 Hydro from Amazon. Could not beat the price. If there is a coverage problem with just the one unit, I'll supplement with the CFLs.

Question for my followers: how far above the canopy should the Mars 300 hydro be mounted? My grow and flower areas are 8 square ft each. And which area will benefit the most from the LEDS: Veg or flower?

If im not mistaken the mars 300 is a full spectrum light and will be good for both veg and bloom

You are correct. It is switchable between veg and flower. I can hardly wait for it to arrive! The site where I buy a lot of my stuff is amazingly accurate on their delivery schedule.

Yesterday I started training the plants in veg to stay low and wide. They were at the thirsty, almost wilted stage, so those that were flexible enough, I tied down branches. Those that were not, I topped. Those that just had one stem were topped down to a place where I wanted them to branch out.

Once they outgrow the one veg unit, I will have to open the idle unit. The downside of going low and wide is space, obviously, and I really don't like to cram more than 4 in an 8' or 9' square space. I expect that they will go under flower as 30"H x 30"W plants.

In spite of Nirvana's promise that BBLs flower to harvest is 8 - 10 weeks, I'm already at 8 weeks with lots of buds with 100% white pistils. Looking back in this journal, it appears I got BBL#1 under 12/12 at the end of March. The label got lost in all the shuffling around and so I'm not even sure if it's BBL #1 or #4, but it has to be one of the two.

I've been reading that some growers cram up to 10 plants in a 2 x 4 ' enclosure and take them to harvest! HELL NO! My 3 - 4 month vegged ladies won't fit, esp since I tie them low and horizontal. But I probably should get over the hesitation of letting my ladies touch each other (Fear of spreading mites).

That Mars 300 is coming in a couple weeks, and I need to make good use of it in the flower closet. Time to up-pot two more clones and put them under!

I Up-potted a clone from BBL #1, who was 4 tufts of leaves on 4 18" bare stalks. I had cut all the tops off and cloned them, then terminated the mother, as I am no good at revegging. The pic of the mother is below.

The clone is in a 3 gallon bin and has been placed right into the flower closet. She's shorter than I would like, but her genetic age is nearly 5-1/2 months, and was cloned 2 months ago. Her sister is about the same height, and so these two will be my guinea pigs when the Mars 300 arrives. By then, the first BBL I put to flower should be at peak flower, and ready to form some real trics.

A pic of this clone just before up-potting, the tall BBL in the back

Thinking there's a little more sativa in it than you were led to believe? Mal (at Nirvana) seems to cross just about every strain he gets with either his... I can't remember off the top of my head what his 100% indica is called, but either that one or his skunk #1. Maybe, with his bubble gum strain, it was the latter? Plus... he almost certainly got his cut of bubble gum from Simon, Adam, or Tony (Serious Seeds, TH Seeds, Sagarmatha Seeds) after the three went their separate ways and opened their own cannabis seed breeding businesses, and each of them ended up breeding/creating a different version. IIRC, Simon worked with it to bring out a little more of its sativa side than Adam did. IDK about Tony's "original" version, but the bubble gum hybrid he's selling now that he calls Boulder Bubblegum is supposed to be (somewhat) sativa dominant.

If yours are exhibiting sativa characteristics, be thankful, lol (even though that might not be all that convenient if you were planning for the opposite).

Maybe in about 25 years (if by some miracle I'm still above ground), I'll hitchhike/walk up to Alaska and talk you into letting me try a shot or two of that. I haven't enjoyed a bubble gum (or derivative) strain since... about 2001, IIRC.
