AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal - Ebb&Flow - Bubblelicious 2013

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

Great tent AG, really neat and clean. Is it possible to make a male go Fem?

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

AG, the grow looks awesome! I hope to be half as lucky soon.

May I suggest some experiments if the bag seeds survive your gauntlet?

-- Air Layering, what DP briefly discussed in his journal, getting a clone to root before it is removed from the mother plant.
-- After a clone is rooted and a couple new node grow out, cut the young plant low to clone it again. This might be too stressful, but if not, perhaps that can be repeated a couple times to time the harvest for a ready vegged lady?

If it was me I'd just take a cut or two befor you flip it.
Looking fwd. to seeing you flower out some chunky but funky nugs AG

OK so on those pics you mentioned thinking you had a def.? All I could see was lighter colored tops? Is that what was worrying you? All the lighter lime green colored growth? If so its nothing to worry about all mine do that too. Check my co journal with the Capn as tomorrow morning is update time im sure the earlier updates would have similar looking tops.
Have you guys seen cap'ns new blogs? Great info thats for sure

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

>>>If it was me I'd just take a cut or two befor you flip it.

I am going to cut 3-4 clones from Bubb B and put them in stasis, each in slightly varying forms. This in hopes to root them 2 months later after this harvest is done.

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

with my aero cloner i can put cuttings in there now..leave them for two months...my timer messed up..or maybe it was that GLR..all my plants went into flowing mode...even the rooted clones in the cloner...good way to sex your plant...sit your cloner in the window...:thumb:

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

It's bound to have very thick lower stalk development but very few grow sights depending on the the amount of time on the reveg of a reveg ahahha

But you are bound to find out Miwa ;)

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

Mini Update

So someone with a pair of scissors and possibly a chainsaw paid a visit to my Bubbs this morning. I'm glad to have 1 Bubb still standing strong :morenutes:

Now a moment of silence for Bubb lost during last nights attack :Namaste:

Now to add a little biology lesson to the mix. As you can see here, the Phloem and Cambium layers are clearly seen incircled in red. In reality the small space between this and the blue Xylem layer was saturated with sap. It continued to flow out of the stem like an open wound.

20131013_021344.jpg

Now THESE roots are quite a sight! Pearly white, and very even root development all the way through the medium. Now if Bubb A (the smaller plant) has roots this big, then Bubb B is definitely root bound, and will show slower signs of outward growth the next few weeks.

20131013_021527.jpg

20131013_021516.jpg

This is just an idea of what space I am going to try and cover with just ONE plant instead of the initially planned 2. This is 4ft x 2ft.

20131013_022955.jpg

So I have topped this lady for the last time. I did 8 sites, the main growths from the stem.

20131013_023954.jpg

And with this, all the inner growth should be able to catch up in height with the edges. For that Vanilla Ice Flat Top (as Capn put it )

20131013_023404.jpg

Now with the extra space, I have moved the two bagseed from underneath the grow tent, to about level with everything else. I am sure that one of these bagseed has already started showing preflowers and is looking like a lady at the moment.

(I have been playing around with this 'Panorama' setting on my camera, and I must say it is pretty entertaining ;)

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

So I was thinking of transplanting the Bubb in the 3.5 gallon pot next week, 1 week earlier than I planned, and 1 week before I go into flower. So the question is if I transplant early will I risk getting root bound during the stretch period, therefore stunting growth, or do I transplant now, and let the plant gain more width?

I'm on the fence with this decision right now, so I will ask for the advice for any one on here who has it to give. I have given myself a week to decide what to do, so until then I will continue to research root bound characteristics late in veg and early in flowering.

As for the bag seed, you notice that I have one on the right and two on the left. Well the right is the being trained in a lollipop-style fashion and I am inducing stretching on this plant to further achieve a long single cola. The two on the left are under the CFL to stay compact and get more light penetration lower down in to the plant. For those of you who did not know my future plan for these 3 bagseeds: once I determine sex, hopefully all 3 of them will go into the same pot for the rest of flowering to make automated watering when absent much easier.

Officially 3 more weeks before I switch to 12/12, and by then this plant should be 2 times this size ;)

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

I love a good Murder-mystery :)

Fantastic roots, AG That cubed rockwool looks like the shizz-nizz (or whatever people say these days)

You should post the biology lesson on Spimp's "art" thread.
It would be nice to have something artistic and informative there ;)

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

Good weed AG. Is your Bubb gonna graduate to an air pot?

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

Unfortunately I am not going to be purchasing an airpot this time around. I am only going to be transplanting into a 3.5 gallon pot after this 1 gallon pot. The only question is if I should wait or not on the transplant?

And Rico, can you get me a link to that paint art thread you and Spimp dumped me into a while back ;)

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

Maybe it applies, maybe not, but when I chopped my little dude I think 9 days into flower, I pulled the root ball just to check development and remember wishing I had used a larger pot. Of course this was FFOF soil and not croutons, but I think growth will be amplified in your case with the Tea and more ideal conditions than I recreated. More pot would equate to more root development, no?

If your area has a Family Dollar, or Dollar General or something like that, maybe stop by, my local had a nice large square plastic pot for like $5. I didn't get it, but I made the mental note.

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

Nice roots, AG. I agree with s1ing, you don't have any deficiencies.

I normally wait until right before flower before transplanting, since that container needs to take it another 2 months. So I would wait a little longer, but you would probably be ok either way. Another option, would be to use a 5 gallon bucket.

Are you still planning on doing ebb and flow, or are you going to use top feed? I have to admit, the "poor man's air pot" 5 gal bucket experiment is doing fantastic.

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

I plan on doing top feed to waste until I go into flower. That's when I will start to use the Ebb & Flow for full saturation of those croutons, and hopefully explosive enough of growth to fill that screen.

In any case I will hold off on the transplant into the 3.5 gal until I can find something else as suggested by Sky. I'll either try and find a 5 gallon nursery pot or something in between 1 and 3.5 gallons.

As for the poor mans airpot, I am sure I can implement this into my grow if I just put the res into the grow tent and use it as a drain tray. But I feel that I would be putting the whole 'flood&drain' idea to waste, and my initial setup design would have been non-applicable. For now as I said, I am using a top feed when I am not in town, but all other days I water by hand waste.

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

Here is the prototype for the 'new' design for the automated watering system. It it now designed to water the bagseeds as well as the single female Bubb. I have chosen PVC and it is the 'simplest' design I have come up with that has kept a good constant pressure so far.

And remember the broken branch last week?

Well it is completely healed and growing at a fast rate ;)

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

you may want to research this..but i believe at 50 or below humidity..your buds are too dry to cure..i put a meter in my jars...saying that...i believe when the stem snap when its hanging..the buds are too dry to cure...i reserve the right to change my mind..if wrong..:cheesygrinsmiley:

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

Mini Update

I did not plan to train this lady THIS much prior to putting to the trellis, but since I only have one plant to fill up that huge screen, I have bent over some of those annoyingly tall branches. This really shed some light to all that inner growth, and hopefully I should have over 35+ tops pushing through the screen by the time I put it on.

Re: AfricanGrower's 1st Hydro Journal-Ebb&Flow/Bubblelicious 2013

THAT IS EXACTLY HOW I WANT TO GROW!!! Love that heavy pimp hand AG, beautiful spread. After all that bending (and pinching?), what height is the plant now from medium to upper most growth?
