There's something about light cycle and intensity that gets overlooked.
We run 18/6 or 20/4 in veg, and we run 12/12 or 11/13 in bloom ... and we know that the plant needs more light intensity in bloom ...
But a big part of that is something called Daily Light Integral (DLI). The light requirement is actually the
total for the day. DLI = intensity x duration. A sunny morning and a cloudy afternoon is equal to a partly cloudy day.
So when we cut daylight hours, we have to boost intensity.
It's not an ironclad rule, but it's a big part of the need for more light in bloom. So in veg, we only need 60% of the intensity we need for bloom. But we're also running that lower intensity for more hours per day. 18 hours @ 25 watts/sqft = 450. 11 hours @ 40 watts/sqft = 440.
So, anyway, think of autos that way. All they need is the light - doesn't matter much how they get it.
