A Good Old Fashioned RedHotChiliPepper Grow Off

That’s perfect!! I think mines ready! Can I use twine or wire is better?

Now let’s talk Thyme and Basil and all herbs! Do you just pick and dry? Like leave them out on some newspaper? My cinnamon basil is flowering but I think it’s the leaves I want to dry right?

I always use twine or cotton thread to wrap the smudge sticks. The smudge sticks are wrapped useing fresh sage. Then you dry it. I hang mine in my hot barn. All the other herbs I hang and dry like I do my pot.
Once dry. Sage I take just the dry leafs and smush it through a wire cullinder. It makes a dry sage rub.
Everything else is just grinding or chopping to disired consistincey. Like rosemary. Dry and chop to rice size. Bottle. Give as gift. You get it. Throw in a smudge stick and some dried garlic and you win your next family get to gether.

Oh. And When I use bags and stuff to help dry. I always use drown paper bags and card board.

I clone rosemary. I try to stick to herbs that grow back every year. My roots are diffrent. The only seeds I collect are from my veggie garden. Sunflower. Squash. ECT

Thyme dries very nicely & will keep, jarred up, for several months.

Basil will dry ok, but it's much better used fresh. It can be used in a ton of things, from pesto to caprese salad.

Also: best to dry herbs out of the direct sunlight.

Grow on!

Ok I finally got a sunny day for pics!

Updates all started from seed!

I harvested my big potato bag and got a bowlful, not really worth it. I’ll plant them in the ground next year along my back fence! I saw a neighbour do that in the alley and his potatoes are on fire!

And the ghost chilies (all 3 survived and 1 is inside with the poptatos and clones)

Now look at these beds, there are 5-8 weed plants hidden in this guerrilla garden:D

And finally what I’m most happy and proud of! I have not been able to get anything to grow out front in the bed I made. Various cats poop in there and ants are everywhere. I’ve tried seeds including tulips last year, some grew (like 4) ha! I grew these sunflowers in a big pot and transplanted them about 3 weeks ago. Usually things die pretty much as soon as I plant them there. My last attempt and guess what! Every single sunflower made it and has doubled their size! Please tell me these come back every year now?? It’s a lot of work!
Also my pumpkins and cosmos made it too! Woop (remember those pumpkins I started in a fabric bag lol)

My neighbours sunflowers are on point every year! He has them all over the yard :D

Fantastic work!

Wow newty. Your garden is looking great, I had a pea plant that made purple flowers last year... I saved some and planted this year hoping to get the purple flowers. Unfortunately your sun flowers are a one year deal..... if you want something hardy for there, get some hostas and astilbes. I'll get some pics tomorrow of mine.

Hostas are a great suggestion. Lovely blooms, too.

the GH looks greatt @Itibitiguy ! Grow bud in there, too?

I sure wish they grew back... I think it's worth the effort. I have one sunflower thats 8 foot tall and still hasn't bloomed. I plant a row of sunflower every year. Helps the chainlink fence become a privacy fence.
