6 Clones - 3 Strains & Hempies - Oh My!

re: 6 Clones - 3 Strains & Hempies - Oh My!

This group should be a little easier because I took the LST pictures after putting the plants in place. Now, what did I put where?

My camera only auto focuses and can pick weird focal points when set for macro.

The organic Blue Dragon. This plant looks to be the bottom part of a larger branch that got turned into two clones. The cool result is that it had three branches that could be tied down.

I have already spotted a few small branches that are poorly positioned and will be harvested as clones.

As a side note, it easy to spot which plant is from which group by looking at the runoff. The organic runoff is brownish in color and smells organic. The regular runoff is mostly clear and has no noticeable smell.

Looking really nice TwoTokes! Look like sativas?

Thanks BlueDog.

The Blue Dragon is sativa dominant, the Headband is supposed to be indica dominant, and the Grand Daddy Purple is all indica.

A nice range to see how different strains grow.

Little darlings, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darlings, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Better than alright. After the LST most of the leaves had their bottoms facing the light. Three hours later, all the leaves are standing up like Old Grand Daddy Purple on viagra.

With the cfls, temps were running about 5 degrees warmer than my garage. The CMH is raising temps by 10 degrees. I am just running the floor fan and heat is venting out the hole at the top where the outtake fan goes. I want to check temps before putting the outtake fan in place.

:goodjob: so far....will be  this grow. I love the strain selection too.

I will be interested in watching your Headband specifically, its relative might be what I use to get as "Humbolt" and loved the high and the taste.

Never seen Blue Dragon, but I love it's already obvious Sativa domination!

Love vertical grows...:tokin:

:peacetwo: brother.

Welcome MountainHigh. I finally posted on your Zen garden after a few weeks of joyous lurking. Now that things are mostly set up I can participate a little more and not be as manic.

When you kick that exhaust fan on, your temps may not be much different from your CFL's.

Hoods really jack things up.

No exhaust worked good last night when the garage temperature dropped to 60. The grow area stayed at 80.

I was mentioning the cfls because it is often said that they do not put off much heat. If I had the equivalent number of cfls to equal the CMH, there would probably be at least as much heat.

I am trying to understand the heat issue now when it is not a problem because for a good part of 7 months it can be a big problem.

To be fair, the cfls were operating without anything other than passive airflow.

Also, in the spirit of fairness, I slammed Cal mag for the $20 price. It should be noted that you can treat at least 450 gallons of water with one quart. That would last a long time for personal grows. I will still be seeking cheaper alternatives just out of the spirit of thriftiness.

Nothing like the intensity of that CMH huh? Like a little star in a jar...

Looking good twotokes!

Or a galaxy on a cat's collar.

Peeked in at the plants and they are loving the light. Soaking in the rays.

Big buds will soon fill your jar

In the face of a glaring lack of coffee, I missed explaining the strains.

Blue Dragon is a sativa dominant mix of Blueberry and Sour Diesel.

The original Headband was a mix of OGKush and Sour Diesel. The version I have adds Master Kush to that mix.

Grand Daddy Purple is a NoCal indica blend that has been around for a number of years. I had a couple of puffs recently. It tasted real good and mixed perfectly with margaritas and sunset.

Is that the light you will be using for the rest of your grow?

High LetsBeBuds!

I will be using the CMH for the rest of the grow. A week or two more veg and all of flowering. I think these retro CMH lights are great. There is some technical talk over at Gator's Cage.

My best explanation of why I like it so much after just a day of using it is that the light just lloks and feels right. The plants respond to it perfectly.

Looking good TT. Not sure i understand the lsting, but will go search the forum for a link to it. I started tying down Sassy but not like that.

Hi Tmac12. Somewhere in the middle of a thread by I don't remember who is a good explanation of LST. I did remember the general principle from there and a number of other threads I read.

First I tied the stem to the closest side of the bucket and made it strong by doubling the cord. I have 100+ yards of cotton candlewick that i am using but I have seen people do it with all kinds of different cords or wire.

I just tied a loose knot near the top of the plant at the highest node that looked like it would take the pressure. The I ran the end of the cord through the hole in the side of the bucket. While gently supporting the stem with one hand, I pulled the string until the plant had bent as far as it seemed to easily go. No heavy pressure.

Next I took my fingers and started gently putting pressure on the curving stem while gently keeping tension on the cord. While walking my fingers up the stem some places where the stem was curved flattened out with light pressure and I was able to bring the top of the stem down to almost level with the opposite side of the bucket.

All of these plants were about 8 to 10 inches tall and relatively flexible.

I did to things in preparation for this process. First the plants did not get hit with direct ventilation during early veg because I did not want to toughen up the stems. Second, the plants were transplanted off center to be closer to the side of the bucket where the base of the stem would be supported.

Hope that helps.
