We have reached the unofficial half way point or so... We have now been blooming for 4 weeks! The buds are absolutely gorgeous at this point and just starting to show us what beauties they are going to turn into. We can already see that these are going to be some very huge buds by the time we get finished. They plants feel like they have already settled into a 3 day watering cycle because this evening the lower leaves were already starting to lower on this second day and I am sure they will need water by this time tomorrow. If I really wanted to push these girls, I think I could get them to accept a gallon of water almost every other day at this point, but I don't really want to work that hard. A three day cycle is bad enough when you are hand watering this many plants.

So here to document the 4 week point, I give you some pretty bud shots.

Here to start out is that one huge bud that right now is in the back of the room:

Today was the scheduled 3 day watering day, and they sure wanted it! All the containers were dry, and leaves had dropped below horizontal all over the room. The roots clearly kept growing all through stretch and beyond, and now I am certain that I could water every 2 days at this point if I wanted to. I also know that when I get 3 fast waterings done and I force them to go that extra 4th day, we will definitely get a bit of a drought stress on that pass. We will also be doing our last feeding in 7 more days. It seems incredible to be saying that, but that will be at week 5 and then the next feeding would occur on week 7... within the 2 week harvest window at that point, so the feeding table says to skip that last feeding. This of course will not be the same as cutting off a synthetic grow at that point, because even while we skip there will still be plenty of microbes still living in the soil and plenty of leftover raw nutrients to process, probably right up to the end. The plant will probably clean up a bit, but that doesn't seem to be what this last skip is all about... its more about saving money. Why give feed that isn't really needed and won't be used fully? I find it refreshing to see a nutrient company showing us how to save a little bit of money, when they could easily have told us to feed right to the end.

I moved the big budded plant to the front of the room so we can watch her better. I measured the big bud complex to be a diameter of 2.5 inches across and 13 inches long until the buds stop winding around the branch in one continuous bud. There are scores of branches in this room that are going to produce foot long kolas by the time we are done. Not to be outdone by those sativa looking phenos, there are also several plants in the room that have more of an indica look to them and they look like they are going to produce baseball sized buds.

By this time, all of the plants have managed to shut off any small branches that never made it into the canopy. There is a significant die off at the bottom of the canopy and I could easily pull 20 or so dead leaves from the bottom center of each plant to clean them up. Over the next week I will be concentrating on that cleanup as we prepare for week 5, when we do the famous backbuilding cut on 90% of the buds and do a final evaluation of the cage structures to see if any branches are going to need additional help, and of course another sweeping and cleanup of the room.

Here are some pictures from about a half hour to an hour after watering. They were bouncing back fast after starting to get a little desperate for water and the new arrangement of the room helps you see a few of the plants a little better.

Today it topped out at 95 degrees in the bloom room but the girls are taking it right in stride, acting like they don't have a care in the world. Their water use is remarkable and they will definitely need to be watered again tomorrow. There are some with colored pistils and some with brilliant white pistils only, some with long and windy bud sets and some with more squat and wider bud sets. It shouldn't be too much longer before we can start identifying some phenotypes in here. Most of the top buds are starting to take on a classic conical shape, and in about 4 days we are going to deal with that... probably on the 3rd fast watering day when I will do the backbuilding cut.

The fungus gnats are gone. Now that they no longer thrive in any of the grow rooms, embarrassingly enough, I have more gnats in my kitchen right now than I do upstairs in the grow rooms. It seems that as long as they can get a foothold in any of the grow rooms, they migrate from there, being a nuisance in all of the rooms. Right now, since they are under control in the bloom room, they are also not reinfesting the veg room, where they usually always started.

Here are some complete plant top shots that due to the massive amounts of kolas are just impressive.

This is actually last night's update, and I do plan on another one later today for the current situation. Last night we watered, did yet another cleanup of the dead stuff under the canopy, and readjusted and added parts to the tomato cages to as to shore up the heavy buds up top for their final build. After we got done with all the work we partied for way too long and I totally forgot to get this update in the books.

The plants greedily took their water again on this third day and on the next watering it will also be feeding day. On this momentous day, we will also be doing the backbuilding cuts and I will document that process with some pictures. I might spray one more time on this day too because I did note just a few bugs flying around as we massively rearranged the room and I want to knock them back one more time before the buds get so developed that I no longer want to spray.

Garden is looking absolutely GORGEOUS @Emilya :circle-of-love:

I went back to the beginning of your journal and re-read everything a second time. I also picked up a copy of TLO and just finished - great read!

One quick question... originally you mentioned using spikes in this grow. After going thru your journal a 2nd time, I couldn't find any additional mention of them. Just curious if you decided to not use them, or maybe I missed it somehow. If you did use them, were the spikes more geoflora, or some other recipe?
