420 Magazine's Official Girl Scout Cookies Comparative Grow By Emilya

Good morning @HashGirl and @Emilya. Interesting conversation. Useful. So you guys are both using the Geoflora. Seems as if a lot of people are getting really good results with this. I would like to try it next time. I'm wondering if either of you might have any input on whether or not these nutes would work well in my Fox Farms soil mix? And as the feeding chart is set up perfectly it appears for mixing in increments designed for a 10 gallon pot, could I use the Fox Farms soil mix and grow one plant in a ten gallon pot (with uppotting Dixie > One > Five > Ten) in my 5x5? Or does this soil work with only the organic blends type soil mixture like Emilya (and others) use? Sorry, if this is not the place for this question can you please redirect me/it? Thanks you guys very much. And yes, I can read, lol, I just know I'll get more accurate info about this here than on a website.
Any soil will work... the soil is basically just holding up the plants in a grow like this and the Geoflora is so complete that you can even use it in COCO. The feeding chart is divided into planter sizes, so they give you the 2 week dosage needed for any size container.

All I needed to know. Thanks very much!! Em, this may be the shortest question and answer for me and you ever. Kinda refreshing. :laughtwo: :laughtwo: :laughtwo: :laughtwo:

Hi @HashGirl ! :ganjamon:

At 25 days into flower you are only 3 days ahead of me. Don't go by the total number of weeks of your grow because remember that the chart is assuming a 4 week veg and an 8 week bloom... we both vegged a bit longer than that, so we should have stayed on the veg half of the chart an extra 4 weeks. The way I understand it, they call for not feeding in the last 2 weeks of bloom. For our 12-16 week plants, that means that our feeding at the end of the 8 week bloom period will be the last one. The long running varieties like 12 week bloom sativas, are going to get fed a couple of more times than the chart shows on the bloom side and of course when you veg for longer than 4 weeks, there are also extra applications of the VEG product. In my case here, I am just into the 3rd week of bloom and I just fed the second time. So at the 5th week point, there is still plenty of time left in the grow and I will feed BLOOM for the 3rd time. If these were 6 week bloom plants, I would not feed again next time. My next scheduled feeding falls on the 1st day of the 7th week of bloom, but we are anticipating them to finish within that last two weeks, so they will not be fed then and we will go water only until harvest, anticipating about a week of water only. This sounds scary but I assure myself that with this feeding system there still has to be some mineral content left over and the microbes are not going to just all die off at the end of two weeks, so its not like we are cutting them off cold turkey at the end... we are just not wasting another round of expensive nutes when it is time to help them clean up a little and when they would not be able to take advantage of the 2 week feeding. I know, I know... I have always preached against starving our plants at the end, but this isn't quite the same as that, and I find that these days I am a middle aged dog trying to learn new tricks. My last grow finished out very nicely without getting that last hit of nutes and based on that result I am going to try it again.

:meatballs:

Thank you for this detailed reply, Emilya. According to my new calculations, Week 12 will occur during the week of September 12th, which is 26 days from now, which will put me at Flower Day 51.

Do you believe there will only be 2 weeks left of the grow from that point or should I push off the last 2 weeks until during the week of September 26th, which would put me at Flower Day 65, which is much closer to the 80 days of my previous GSC grow?

it depends on the pheno I guess. I am shooting toward a 9 week bloom of around 63 days. If when I get to that 7 week point and some look like they are going to run long, then I will feed those few again, but you should be able to tell by the pistils if she is going to wrap up in that last two weeks.

We have a weird bud at the very top of the canopy... the closest one to the light, and that may be the problem, that it is getting too much light. It bears watching, but I am going to keep it where it is for now.
DSCF9783.JPG

The plants continue to slough off leaves at the bottom of the canopy where there clearly is not enough light, yet in the canopy the buds and all the surrounding leaves look perfect with no signs of any problems at all. If these were not packed in here so tightly I would bet there would be a lot less of this... but it is what it is, and doesn't seem to affecting anything important.

The room is definitely taking on a citrus smell as these buds start to get very fragrant... at least most of them. There are some that are just not like the others.

So, today, the day after watering, there is not much to do except admire the pretty buds. Also, please forgive the color balance on today's shots... I have learned not to color balance while directly under the big light.

I want to try to show you what it is that I look for to know that I am in the last two weeks. Take a look at this picture:
DSCF8718.JPG

this bud has just now met my benchmark indicating that we are in the last two weeks. The top pistils, instead of some of them sticking straight out as if they were electrified, have all now bent in some way, some are crinkled and bent over at the top... and none of them are sticking straight out anymore. This usually happens just as you enter the final bud swell.

Today we find that the buds are expanding rapidly. Simply look at any of the pictures from a couple of days ago and this development is easily seen. The leaves with signs of deficiencies have not changed... they have not gotten any worse, the leaves have stopped dropping, and no new signs of deficiencies are being seen. This last feeding appears to have given the plants everything they wanted.

The plant with the weird bud up near the light actually has 2 or 3 buds that look similar... maybe another pheno, or just too close to the light. The world wants to know, but we will still have to watch and wait.

And then colorations... we are seeing several of the buds around the room starting to get colored pistils, but especially this one!

And then, let's finish this evening with a bunch of bud shots with proper color balance. It really is starting to look spectacular in here!

I messed up twice this evening, so I ask you all to please forgive me. First, I now know not to color balance on the bumper sticker that I pointed to again tonight... it just doesn't work. Please excuse the green filter. The second mistake is that this could'a should'a been a watering day, but I totally spaced it out in this extreme Missouri humidity. I will water them tomorrow, early in their day to make up for it since I am working from home tomorrow, and all should be good.

Embarrassed again, but too late now to do a re-do, I give you in a study of green serenity... my beautiful buds. I know this might make you laugh, but hey... please respect the art. :)

Jeez I can make my buds look that green too with a green light filter. :laughtwo: :laughtwo: :laughtwo: :laughtwo: :laughtwo: :laughtwo:

Of course I joke. These are about as pretty as you're going to see. Beautiful beautiful plants.

Today was watering day and they were definitely thirsty after 2 back to back 4 day waterings. No problems have been noted and all the plants were rotated in place or actually moved to new locations under the light. The buds keep building, trying to look their best for their pictures in a couple of days at the 4 week point.

While I was watering I marveled again at the fact that there were no fungus gnats flying off of the soil as I watered. They are gone! It really is a good feeling to see that there are no bugs bothering this grow. Thank you SNS for giving us a natural way to deal with this constant problem!

Here, with a bit better job at balancing the color, are my bud shots of the day!

Maybe it's just me, but damn those buds are big for four weeks into flower.

Just wait till they go another month!
I'll be watching. So it's not just me. Those things in another month are gonna be gargantuan. Your yield will be spectacular, you can already see that. I'd say nice job, but duh.....

Wow... the smell hits you as soon as you get in the airflow! The buds are amazing and at this point in the grow there is not much to say other than just let the pictures say those thousand words for you. So I will get to that in just a second, but first, I did make one minor adjustment to the room and it has got to help. I moved the wall fan to a better wall, so that during every moment of its swing, it is hitting plants in the back of the room. This was where the fan should have gone at first, so as to cover the entire room and not rely on reflected wind.

That being corrected, it is time to look at some amazing buds. The one bud up near the light... that silly thing is going to be one huge bud complex the length of my arm and near the size of a 2 liter soda bottle. It is one of the most massive buds I have ever grown.

But Emilya, the girls always told me not to worry, that size didn't matter! :laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo: Is that the bud you said you'd drive down and drop off to me or was it one of the "smaller" ones? (For those who don't realize it, this is a joke!)

She's a beauty alright. DAMN. I'll be hoping for the semi-obligatory scale shot in a month or so where you actually have the two liter bottle in the tent next to the bud and all that good stuff!

Some of us would refer to the late fan move as an "infrastructure upgrade" and would appreciate it as such. Nice.

What impresses me the most about the pictures of your grow is the constant very very high level of the health of the plants. I don't have direct reference points for anything else you do vs. another way, but I know what a healthy plant looks like. Wow. They just are loving life. They probably look at you like puppies with their big brown eyes when you walk into the grow room.

I read Maritimers journal tonight. Interesting to think about how your habit of water starving the plants periodically to stress them fits in to all the trichome magic he's talking about. You guys would make a formidable team.
