420 Magazine's Official Girl Scout Cookies Comparative Grow By Emilya

I will work on a good tripod bud closeup shot or two this evening as we harvest the next batch of this crop. Yes, I see pinks and purples so far in the buds, and that was just one quick phenotype. All the plants we harvest tonight will look a little different and will trim up a little differently, and I expect new colors and tastes and smells from all 3 of the phenos I still see in the room. This is the advantage of an organic grow. The plants know what they need and they work with the microbes to bring all of that to them. As long as the raw nutrients are in the soil or added every two weeks, the microbes will feed the plants better than any blind readily available nutrient program could ever do, no matter the skills of the gardener. The organic feeding cycle allows the plants to totally express their genetics to bring out every terpene and color that the genepool is able to bring out. It's not just keeping them green till the end doing this... it is trusting the organic feeding cycle explicitly while not getting in the way with lots of other additives, and keeping the roots energized with intelligent watering practices.
Awesome. Thanks. I get a lot from you when I'm not even specifically asking a question!

Length of Grow - 4 months, 1 week, 3 days

Say goodnight, Gracie... tonight, actually as of a half hour ago, the lights went off for good and that was the last bright light these girls are going to see. Now they go into a forced period of darkness, being well watered from 2 days ago and ready to give it all till the end. These remaining buds are going to make this grow sing, because all of the major weight is here. All of these buds are massive and mostly rock hard too, and I expect that Thursday afternoon when the crew arrives, we are going to find these to be a lot of fun to harvest, weigh, trim and wash. I suspect that we will give 3 pounds dry product a good run for its money just with this harvest, making about 4 lbs total for the room. We will see... I still haven't seen how bad the middle canopy is on these remaining plants, but I am confident that these will be better producers than the first 4 early plants.

This has been a great run and overall, I am pretty proud of what was accomplished here. You got to see some of my favorite tricks and methods and I got to prove that they work, and hopefully we had some fun along the way. We learned a lot about @Sierra Natural Science pest control, @GeoFlora Nutrients, @DYNOMYCO and the mighty @NextLight MEGA. Thank you to 420 Magazine and @Weed Seeds Express for making all of this happen! I learned a few things on this journey, and I hope that you did too, and of course thanks to all of you, this journal won the prestigious Grow Journal of the Month for August!

We still aren't finished with this journal as we still have some major drying and curing to do, and then finally the crew and I will all sit around and work on a smoke report for you, from several perspectives as we sit around sampling buds from the various plants.

For tonight, we will do one last round of one glamor shot per plant, from 7 of the most beautiful girls you would ever want to meet.

Beautiful grow! You and crew will be busy for awhile with the trim and wash.:bravo:

The final harvest has begun. We had 4 in the crew last night, so we got 3 of the plants done in a 5 hour trim session. 2nd shift starts around 9am and two of us will go at it for a few hours... 3rd shift starts around 6 this evening with 3 of us working, and we should get done tonight. These plants are definitely yielding more per plant and the center and lower canopy is a little bit better, still with room for improvement.

Here are some of the cell phone pictures from last night as we worked. I still need to get the big camera going and do some big bud studies and that will happen this afternoon. For now on my day off, we need a good breakfast and then we are back in trim jail for a while.

Have a great day everyone!

Just beautiful dank right there. Crew must have all developed carpal tunnel today! Fantastic grow, thanks for letting us watch this!!!

I have some more pictures to show you today, but for now, I am still working with the harvest. This is from that first batch. It has been drying and at the paper bag stage until this morning. I put it in the jar 2 hours ago and it is remaining rock steady at 64% RH. Stabilized in the cure range in a bit more than a week... this is going very well.

The product is compacting nicely and taking on an overall dark appearance, with the red pistils giving it a very appealing look. The smoke is amazingly smooth already and it hits like a ton of bricks. I smoked a big fattie last night with just a little bit of finger hash thrown in, and I was wiped out for the rest of the night and for me, went to bed early. My patients are going to be very happy with this product!

What's the brand on your humidity in the jar thingies? Do you use one in every jar or just move that one around?

One in every jar. I buy them on the zon 10 or 15 at a time. +- 3% accuracy... when you put them all in a jar together and throw out the high and low one, you end up being accurate enough for government work.
Amazon here too. Mine are +/- 5...like you said, I go by average so I'm glad it's not just me!

Out of 4 plants we have gained approximately 20 oz ounces of dry pot and we are fairly happy with the yield with an average of 4 to 6 oz per plant.
The official results are in. Not counting shake, this first 4 plant harvest is now in the jar at 64% humidity. I just did a final weigh in, now as it is ready to go out the door to my patients. We ended up with 11.76 oz in the jar, yielding an average of 2.94 dry per plant. Expectations were well in excess of real world results. My formula to approximate dry weight, considering the point that I typically weigh it wet and full of leaf, needs some adjustment.

Still... I have a jar with 11.76 oz of curing ready to smoke product in it. I am a happy camper. More is on the way... I expect 2 - 3 times this much more coming soon. No idea what the weight of it all is hanging there right now... I didn't even bother. We will do like this batch, and get a weight on it when it is closer to reality.

Hey Emmybird :)

That’s okay, and to be honest I think something must have got lost in translation regarding this advanced low slow method.

I‘m not exactly sure what I did wrong last harvest, whether it was hung too long, air too dry, saw something shiny and forgot to closely monitor them, but the end result was they dried too quick. No one advised me, no one peer pressured me, there was no alarming headlong diving lol, it was my mistake alone. This grow I thought I’m going to ask my friends in here, I’m going to listen, weigh up opinions, then I’m going to choose what I want to do. Coz babe that’s how I roll. So far I have been given the advice of paperbag, tag and stick it in the fridge for 3 weeks, and variations of the method you have shared now. I have zero idea what this advanced method is you speak of, but I’m not gonna lie, I’m interested in hearing it... on my own volition ;)

I want to learn the art of drying and adequately curing, and how to dry not using bovidas or what ever they are. I’m gonna watch these buds like a fat kid watches cake. They look so good, I’d be so annoyed with me if I ruin them.

Just to touch on your opening line. I have had the “heavy hitter” term voiced to me before too, and honestly have zero idea which person that is. I just think of the people who have time for me and accept me as my friends. It hasn’t been easy for me in this forum at times, Em. I have had very mean spirited and snippy comments from people I deem as popular posters, as well as serial reporting of my posts. It is actually to the point I don’t post in threads of people I really like coz I don’t want to cause drama and I know just my presence annoys them. Its all about perception tho aye? Like you were in this instance, maybe I’m wrong. You see me as hanging with heavy hitters, I see the cool crew or the heavy hitters as you call them, not liking me one bit. I feel there is a serious dislike towards me from a group of posters, particularly a couple of popular female posters and this makes me so sad coz No 1 I’m a girls girl (not to your degree of devotion ie your hot fire lady lollll) but I prefer the friendship of women. Given the ratio of misters to sisters, us sisters need to stick together. Well I think we do.

Anyway I hope that cleared any confusion. And thanks for always having my back
I was just sitting here watching some cake…

Do you try getting it below 64 rh or is that good for long term storage?

I've had hard time getting mine below 64, no matter how long I leave the jars open haha

That depends on your local environment. I am burping into an air conditioned and low humidity home. I can easily get them down to 56 or 57 but don't want to strip out that much moisture at once because it is too easy to go too far.

As I burp daily and get in and out of it for various reasons, the RH will start to go down. If it lasts that long, 59% and below is for long term storage.

Very nicely done Emilya, we can always count on you for excellent grow journalism.

Those colas were so puffy, and those calyxes were off the charts! :high-five:

Thank you for such an in depth grow journal, our readers and sponsors will benefit for years to come.

This will be a journal to reference, when members seek guidance and mentorship.

Weed love to see that full jar, maybe with a 420 Mag sticker on the front :cheer:

It does have one on the top, but you are right, it definitely needs one on the front too! Thank you for the very kind comments... those mean more to me than anything else!

Here are a couple of bud shots as I play with my camera and try to get some lighting in place for taking these kinds of closeup shots.
