3rd Grow - Time For The Light Show

I installed a 15,000 btu split type AC in the bedroom where my garden is located and it keeps temps and humidity right where it needs to be.
This was actually one of the first things that I spent money on as part of my initial investment when setting up my grow space and was money well spent. I'm located near the equator so keeping temps well below the boiling point of cannabis was always the #1 concern for me when setting up my space.

Best of luck bro. I hope you're able to come up with something.

I'm sure something will work out. If the worst comes to the worst I'll have to drop the reflectors, or maybe give them a couple of hours on in the morning and then before lights out to mimic the sun :) Saying that I never even contemplated needing an AC living up north in the UK where it's usually bloody cold. Between my wife dying of hypothermia at anything less than 25C in the house and probably the hottest weather we've had in years it's just sod's law that I need one. Guess I should have learned after the HPS heat problems that an AC might have been better than investing in LED's lol. Saying that I'm rather fond of this 1600 :thumb:

They sell sell standing in-room ACs you don't have to put in the window now Kraize.

Hey all, I'm unable to vent through my window as people would see it and it's a risk I can't really take but I have had a touch of success thanks to my friend that was supposed to be visiting today

We were speaking on the phone today and my friend gave me the advice of taking my inner vent cover off and checking for blockages, so I took it off and look what I found blocking the vent to the outer wall:

I cleared it out and put the ducting into the wall itself up to the outer vent then used some foam and gorilla tape to hold it in place. Now most people would probably think that this is all easy and elementary but trust me I have no common sense. Inside a computer or behind a camera and I am fine but anything else and I don't even think about common mistakes lol. I'm a member of MENSA and have been for years and people have always told me that although I have a high IQ and am supposedly intelligent I do lack a lot of the basic common sense principles, and this reinforces that fact. Seriously I'm surprised I'm still alive (I once plumbed a washing machine into my gas oven pipe thinking it was the water pipe, that caused a few laughs. Or the time I decided I would wire up an outdoor light then drilled through the wall into the electric box without turning anything off. The electrician was still laughing at my hair standing on end when he left). Really, DIY is definitely not my strong point, there are plenty of other occasion in my life which reinforce this fact. Different horses for different courses is the old adage here :)

So after removing all the debris and putting up the exhaust again I turned around and saw that my tent was seriously being sucked in, there was much more negative pressure than there had been previously. After around 10 minutes I checked the temperatures in the tent and they were 3C lower already, and they're still falling! :high-five:

This just goes to show that without proper forethought and planning that even the simplest of mistakes can really cause issues when growing indoors. Let's hope that this once and for all resolves it. A big thank you to my old friend George again, and he may well have saved me the money I was going to use to install a new split system AC. There's a pint of beer and a good smoke headed his way tomorrow when he gets here. All the best everyone and thanks for all the input, I really would be in a world of shit without the responsible people around :thumb:

Good catch by your bro George. I know who's on the top of your gift list come harvest time.

Be careful around all of those wires and fan blades man. You may want to think about purchasing a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher and keep them close by.

All joking aside bro, if you're unsure of anything always ask for help or advise.
As I'm sure you already know, there are lots of dangers lurking around a grow room.

We all have our aptitudes. Good thing you guys caught that. When the vent going from your clothes dryer, or anything else with heat- like stoves and heaters, gets filled with fluff like that it can be dangerous. The little simple things always are important. Doesn't matter if you're driving a bicycle or a space shuttle. Like that one time we headed out in the boat at the start of halibut fishing season. We'd spent the last three weeks working feverishly getting all the gear in order and were several hours out of port- steaming towards Alaska to catch the season opening. The gun would go off at noon the next day. 3 million dollar boat totally shipshape and ready to go.
When we figured out we had accidently bought a two week supply of decaf coffee we did a 180 and headed back to town. Stores were closed and we had to basically shake all our friends down for enough coffee to survive for two weeks. No sleep that night and the deckhand who did the shopping was teased mercilessly.

What...???? Heading out to sea with no coffee onboard?? That's almost as bad as heading out to sea with a bag full of ganja but no lighters or matches and definitely much worse than forgetting the toilet paper. I'd have made a 180 and beelined it back to shore myself. LOL!

Ha ha. We had a mountain of coffee but the guy didn't read the label and got decaf! That's a very very serious mistake I couldn't imagine how that trip would have gone if we hadn't noticed in time. Hardly bears thinking about :). Beginning of the longline seasons we usually would go about 56 hours straight sleepless, and then after that it was 2-4 hour naps here and there -unless we got weathered out. Things get pretty weird out there...that deckhand would have not been feeling much love :)
But that experience made me realize that however much gear and technology we had - it's always the small things that are going to get you. Some little screw goes loose somewhere and starts a chain of events. Life is a house of cards. A grow is no different than anything else- one little thing goes wrong and it's big trouble so I always try to watch for the little things.

But they still have to be vented to the outside some how. I vent mine out a window with the flashing that's provided, then I screw my window down so it won't open for intruders :)
Nah dude, the new ones out now you just sit them in the room and turn them on. Pretty popular in our city now but we still have window ACs.

Hey all, I'd love to find one of those AC units that don't need to be vented but things are much better here today. The temps when I went in were at 27C (around 80F) with the CFL and Reflectors on. It's a hot day here too so I'm hoping that by the time the plants are ready for switching to flower the weather will be a little more forgiving and I will be able to run all the lights that I want. In the meantime I'm on the hunt for one of these new AC's.

Thanks everyone and yes I have a First Aid kit handy at all times UncleCannabis :)

I wouldn't have liked to be in your deckhand's shoes if you hadn't realised about the decaf Weaselcracker lol. Spotted just in time I'd say :thumb:

I don't suppose you know or recommend any brands of these AC's do you B A R? I'm not sure that we have them in the UK yet though, the hunt is on :high-five:

I may be mistaken BAR but most of those portable in room air conditioners are actually mini swamp coolers which cool the surrounding air but will also cause an increase in humidity.

27 C with lights on during a hot day is awesome bro!
Your girls are gonna have a crush on your pal George now that he's helped to save them from the fire. LOL!

Very true my friend. This should be the 420 phrase of the month. LOL!

If you're right Unc then they wouldn't be any use for a grow. My sister has one in her bedroom. Next time I go over there I'll take one of my monitors with me to measure the humidity for us.

I haven't did any research on them yet Kraize since we use our 10yr old standard window ACs. This year was only my 2nd time charging them so I won't be replacing them any time soon. In NYC window ACs are big business. Unless you live in a new or rehabilitated building (30yrs young or younger and most residential buildings have been here forever) central air doesn't exist.

Hey db003, the heat problems aren't as bad today and I've also just had a moment of epiphany. You see earlier where I posted that I have no common sense? Well I've been sat here in the room just relaxing nicely and my eye gets drawn to the chimney, which has a vent :hmmmm: what was I thinking? Damn I feel a bit dumb now lol but it's all systems agogo. I'll be exhausting through that vent and straight up the chimney when I find a reasonably priced AC unit

Hey Mr Am4zin glad to have you along. There's nothing to be envious of really, no matter what I've got I still can't use it properly yet :) I'm envious of the knowledge that get put into these pages though, I'm trying to soak it all up :thumb:
