3rd Grow - Time For The Light Show

Thanks for the great update Kriaze. I saw you applied for the 420 mod job and I hope you get it. I would have posted a letter of support but didn't want to jinx anything. I sense that I always manage to piss those mods off one way or another.
Your setup looks amazing. I don't know what's going on with the older growth on some of the plants- a bit of deficiency from some problem with the soil ? These things are solvable with a little time and attention. It's best you get a slow start to give us all a little time to adjust, because you'll be rocketing past the rest of us soon enough, and then we will get all jealous and make your life as a mod even more difficult and you won't have beer left over for your garden.

Hey Weaselcracker cheers for the support. As you can see I can pretty much jinx myself in anything whether it's applying as a mod or growing some weed that grows easy everywhere except in my garden lol. To be fair I've only put down for future consideration, I've not been here long enough to either do the job the proper justice it deserves but after more time here I'll be able to help. That's all I want to do really, this place has been not only a great help to me but has also inspired me to make changes to my complete lifestyle and outlook on weed that I would never have thought possible before, it would be nice to be able to contribute back in one way or another.

I actually changed the soil in the plants when I repotted due to the fact that the original soil that I bought (and still have 200l of) seemed to be very acidic. Hopefully things will get better over time, along with some good loving care and some tasty nutrients for the girls. I'm hoping that I won't have this problem in the future when my compost is done, I'll just mix everything up and throw everything in and hope that there's enough life in there to create new life and beautiful buds :)

As for beer being left over in my garden, well I hate to say it but beer is like green here, never enough of it to last and needed sometimes when things get a little heavy with my head. PTSD really can fk about with a man's life sometimes grrrr. But that's what brought me here in the first place and as I've always said, I wouldn't change a thing. Just for the worry that I wouldn't be in a situation where there are beautiful people everywhere around even as one can sense danger lurking everywhere at other times. It's a strange old world, but I like it ;)

If I seem a little off tangent here Weaselcracker I do apologise, but I know that you're looking for some good strain to grow and again as I've said in my last couple of journals I would love to recommend this pheno of Plushberry that I last grew. It's an Indica and I know you stated over on your journal (absolutely fantastic read btw) that your preference was for a Sativa strain, but I never get any anxiety from this smoke, just pure clarity along with a feeling of wellbeing whilst feeling comfortably numb. If you didn't enjoy it yourself (I really really suggest that you give it a chance) I'm sure that a lot of your patients would. It seriously does work that well with me. I can't remember a night on it where I've not been painless and happy along with it, unlike the LSD which can get a bit too head heavy and have you chewing your lips wondering wtf is going on lol. I need to use Black Pepper when I smoke the LSD, myth or not the penine terpine works for me and does help with the anxiety rushes that I get when smoking high THC content :)

I hope you are well in your world and that there are no billy sticks and walks home with no shoes on forthcoming, you should visit England. No bad men (or not very many) and a hopefully nice smoke for you to partake in, have a fantastic evening and weekend, mine has already started. I need to go join her who must be obeyed downstairs shortly for a nice night of relaxing, smoking my meds and talking her ears off about my week. She doesn't get many nights off as she's a nurse and works in Cardiac Intensive Care, so she'll no doubt have stories for me too. Open heart surgery is a must have conversation with a fat bloke lol. All the best over there, peace love and good karma :thumb: :passitleft:

Keep working thoe plants!! Looking good

Hey Spitz thanks and will do :thumb:

I had the same problem with uploading pics what I did was change the settings on my camera to take lower res pics and now I can upload pics great

if you can try adjusting the resolution on your camera

Hey db003 nice tip as I've noticed that when I resize my pictures and save them to around 6mb file size they do upload quicker and don't seem to fail as often. Unfortunately this method won't work for me due to the file format that I use whilst taking pictures, but I can always resize them to lower quality in Photoshop more often. I'll let you know how I get on the next time I have a batch upload. Cheers and I'm looking forward to seeing you chop your two beauties soon. Good luck and all the best :thumb:

I usually reduce my pics to 500 kb. They seem to look good enough, at least on my screen. I just don't have the bandwidth and don't want to wait that long for pics to upload. Let me know if you notice that my journal pics look blurry though, ok? I'm just using an ancient iphone for camera and viewing.

Hey Weaselcracker your pics always look fine to me. Mind you, you do have some great material to work with :)

np man I just got done chopping right now

I'll wait on your dry weight mate, then +reps for all the struggles you had and still made it to harvest. Nice work mate :thumb:

It's great to see that things are going your way mate!!
:thumb::high-five:

I've used diluted milk before but I've alway used it as a foliar spray during early veg only. There are lots of enzymes and nutrients in milk and once it sours on the leaves you'll end up lactobacillus and other beneficial bacteria that will help to prevent PM and other similar diseases. Next day and for about a week afterward they are usually turn a lovely green color (more so than usual) with lots of leaf shine as well.

I don't drink much anymore these days but it would seem like sacrilege to be pouring perfectly good beer into a plant pot instead of into my mouth.
I could envision it now, two sips for me, one sip for her, three sips for me, one sip for her, four sips for me,..... darn it. I'm out of beer. Time for a beer run!! LOL!!

Hello all, first of all I'd like to thanks db003 regarding the lower file sizes. I made everything around 4mb today and they uploaded with no problems. Thank you db003 :thanks:

Now for some bad news. I'm not sure whether it's because I fed my young plants a touch of CalMag and Canna Vega, whether the soil is shit, whether there isn't enough air exchange in the tent (have ordered another fan) or whether it was because I left my window open by mistake on a really cold night/day but whatever it was I managed to kill off three of the youngsters. This is how they looked today:

Only the White Widow is alive and she doesn't seem to be doing too well either, she seems to be showing signs of deficiency but I won't be feeding her anything anytime soon except for plain water. She's ok for now but as for the other three:

IMGP1997151016rs.jpg

They will be consigned to the composting bin. I'm not sure what went wrong, but all my plants seem to be suffering from something or other at the moment. I thought it may be fungus gnats or something but I've had a good look over of the plants and can't seem to find any signs of infestation, I've blown more Diatomaceous Earth over them just in case.

As for the other tent things aren't too bad but they're not that much better either. IB1 is ok but showing signs of yellowing/crispiness on her lower leaves. The LSD is still looking ill although she is still praying to the light and has some new growth that looks a little healthier than the lower leaves. The IB2 is showing signs of deficiencies and yellowing lower leaves as is the Paradise Nebula. The Nebula seems to look worse everytime I see her. I'm flummoxed and have no real idea what the problem is. I know that at least in this tent there is plenty of circulation :helpsmilie:

Here are the bigger girls, I'm intending on moving the IB1 into the other tent just as soon as my new fan comes now that there is plenty of space. I'm not sure about popping anymore seeds at the minute though as I would like to find out what the problems are. Has anyone used Canna Vega or heard anything about it? I don't want to be blaming the food as it's more likely something that I've done wrong, but it is the first time I have used this set of nutrients and I would like to rule out as many possibilities as I can.

If anyone has any ideas they'd be greatly appreciated. I'm going to keep the post short today as I'm full of flu and only made it in here out of the need to check on my plants. I wish you all the best and I hope that your gardens are greener than mine :) All the best everyone :thumb:

Ok Kraize, if I were in your shoes right now (and trust me I've been there) I'd start the process of elimination.

Is there any difference in the soil of the LSD and the Incredible Bulks?
Are the feeding regiments the same or have you been supplementing different nutes trying to resolve the LSD issues?
Is the same copper colored looking leaves anywhere on the Incredible Bulks?

Once you answer these questions you, I, and the rest of your subscribers can start working on getting to the bottom of this.

Also the babies; are those the first seedlings you've had in this medium?

Kind of the same train of thought as BAR..

Water + co2 + light = c6h12o6 + O2

Water? Getting it from a new or different source?
Light? Have you grown anything under the lights that killed your seedlings before?

That doesn't look like lockout. It looks like toxic burn. its puzzling.

Thanxx Spitz and we're accepting all questions for the process of elimination. The gang has got you covered Kraize.

After studying your last post and pics hard and long I think your having a Phosphorous deficiency but not a classic one. Rather than not having enough Phosphorous I think it's getting locked out.
Have your temps been extremely low during lights out (low 50's F)? This can cause Phosphorous lockout.

Are you adjusting your PH levels after adding nutes to your feed? Nutes can lower your PH levels; adjust after you've added nutes. Let's forget about run-off PH for a moment; That will change depending on the toxicity of the soil each time you feed. I know a lot of folks are going to frown upon what I'm about to say but this is what I've witnessed with my own two eyes in my own grows; Run-off PH is pretty much irrelevant unless it's extremely high or extremely low. The main thing is getting your feed in the neighborhood of 6.3 - 6.6 PH for soil. When the nutrients in your soil are balanced correctly the run-off won't be much different. Again, this isn't science, just what I've noticed in my own grows.

So let's start with the LSD since she's the worst and I noticed it's slightly starting on Bulk 1. Give her a slow but heavy flush of about 3x the pot's mass with 6.5 PH adjusted H2O to de-toxify the soil (I look at a flush as a restart button).

Let her completely dry out to the point of slightly wilting. This can take up to a week and 1/2 depending on how bad a lockout is.

Then hit her with a light feeding of one of the Phosphorous supplements listed below.

Copy & Paste from the "Cannabis Problem Solver Thread":
Phosphorus (P) Mobile Element and Macro Element

Benefit: Phosphorus does a lot of things for the plant. One of the most important parts of Phosphorus is: It aids in root growth and influences the vigour of the plant and is
one of the most important elements in flowering as well helps to germinate seedlings.
Phosphorus is an essential plant nutrient, and since it is needed in large amounts, it is classified as a macronutrient. Phosphorus is a MAJOR important nutrient in the plants reproductive stages. Without this element the plants will have a lot of problems blooming without proper levels of Phosphorus.

When your plants are deficient in phosphorus, this can overall reduce the size of your plants. Not enough causes slow growth and causes the plant to become weak, to little amount of Phosphorus causes slow growths in leaves that may or may not drop off. The edges all around the leaves or half of the leaves can be brownish and work its way inwards a bit causing the part of the leaves to curl up in the air a bit. Fan leaves will show dark greenish/purplish and yellowish tones along with a dullish blue colour to them. Sometimes the stems can be red, along with red petioles that can happen when having a Phosphorus deficiency. This isn't a sure sure sign of you having one though, but can be a sign. Some strains just show the red petioles and stems from its genes.
So pretty much the overall dark green colour with a purple, red, or blue tint to the fan leaves is a good sign of a Phosphorus deficiency. Having Cold weather (below 50F/10C) can make phosphorous absorption very troublesome for plants.
Many people get a Phosphorus deficiency confused with a fungus problem because the ends of the leaves look like a fungus problem, But the damage occurs at the end of the leaves. side of the leaves and has a glass like feeling to it as if it had a pH problem. Parts affected by a phosphorus deficiency are: Older Leaves, Whole plant, Petioles.

Too much Phosphorus levels affect plant growth by suppressing the uptake of: Iron, potassium and Zinc, potentially causing deficiency symptoms of these nutrients to occur def in plants. A Zinc deficiency is most common under excessive phosphorus conditions,
As well as causing other nutrients to have absorption troubles like zinc and copper. Phosphorus fluctuates when concentrated and combined with calcium

Problems with Phosphorus being locked out by pH troubles
Cold wet soils, acid or very alkaline soils, compacted soil.

Soil

Phosphorus gets locked out of soil growing at pH levels of 4.0-5.5
Phosphorus is absorbed best in soil at a pH level of 6.0-7.5 (wouldn't recommend having a pH of over 7.0 in soil) Anything out of the ranges listed will contribute to a Phosphorus deficiency.

Hydro and Soil less Mediums

Phosphorus gets locked out of Hydro and Soil less Mediums at pH levels of 6.0-8.5.
Phosphorus is absorbed best in Hydro and Soil less Mediums at pH levels of 4.0- 5.8. (Wouldn't recommend having a pH over 6.5 in hydro and soil less mediums.) Best range for hydro and soil less mediums is 5.0 to 6.0. Anything out of the ranges listed will contribute to a Phosphorus Deficiency.

Solution to fixing a Phosphorus deficiency
Some deficiency during flowering is normal, but too much shouldn't be tolerated. Any chemical or organic fertilizers that have Phosphorus in them will fix a Phosphorus deficiency. If you have a phosphorus deficiency you should use any N-P-K ratio that is over 5.Again Peters all purpose 20-20-20 is a good mix. Miracle grow Tomato plant food, Miracle grow All purpose plant food (Only mixing at ½ strength when using chemical nutrients, or it will cause nutrient burn!) Other forms of phosphorus supplements are: Bone meal, which is gradual absorption, I suggest making it into a tea for faster use, where bone/blood meal is slow acting, but when made into a tea it works quicker! Fruit eating bat guano, which is fast absorption, Worm castings, which is gradual absorption, Fish meal, which is medium absorption, Soft Rock Phosphate, which is medium absorption, Jamaican or Indonesian Guano, which is fast absorption. Crabshell, which is slow absorption. Tiger Bloom , which is fast absorption.

Here is a list of things to help fix a Phosphorus Deficiency.

Chemical

Advanced nutrients Bloom (0-5-4)
Vita Bloom (0-7-5)
BC Bloom (1.1-4.4-7)
GH Flora Bloom (0-5-4)
GH Maxi Bloom (5-15-14)
GH Floranova Bloom (4-8-7)
Dyna-Gro Bloom (3-12-6)
Fox Farm Tiger Bloom (2-8-4)
Awsome Blossums

Organic

Dr. Hornby's Iguana Juice Bloom (4-3-6)
Advanced Nutrients Mother Earth Bloom (.5-1.5-2)
Fox Farm Big Bloom (.01-.3-.7)
Earth Juice Bloom (0-3-1)
Pure Blend Bloom (2.5-2-5)
Pure Blend Pro Bloom (2.5-2-5)
Buddswell (0-7-0)
Sea Island Jamaican Bat Guano (1-10-0)
Indonesian Bat Guano (0-13-0)
Rainbow Mix Bloom (1-9-2)
Earth Juice Bloom (0-3-1)
BIO BLOOM (2-6-3.5)
AGE OLD BLOOM (5-10-5)
ALASKA MORBLOOM (0-10-10)
METANATURALS ORGANIC BLOOM (1-5-5)

Any of these will cure your phosphorus deficiency. Affected leaves will not show recovery but new growth will appear normal.

Now if you added to much chemical ferts and or organics, (which is hard to burn your plants when using organics) You need to Flush the soil with plain water. You need to use 2 times as much water as the size of the pot, for example: If you have a 5 gallon pot and need to flush it, you need to use 10 gallons of water to rinse out the soil good enough to get rid of excessive nutrients.

Note: Blood Meal, Dried Blood, Guanos, Kelp Meal, Cotton Seed Meal, Peat Moss,
Sulfur and fish meal are all acidic and can bring your pH down, so if you add these please monitor your pH when using those.

Note: Bone Meal, Rock Phosphate, Wood Ashes pretty much all ashes, Shellfish Compost and Crab Meal are all alkaline and can make your pH go up, so if you add any of these please monitor your pH.

One more request my friend, I know you use color correction in your photos, but they still seem to have a greyish tint. Can you pull this plant, or a couple of the damaged leaves (especially the one center right, and take pictures under white light rather than correcting the color.

I am not a feeder as you well know, but that leaf and the couple I can see from another plant in the bottom of the picture, almost look like they might be signs of Mg deficiency/lockout, but its hard to tell as the color doesn't look right.

Hey guys thanks for all the help. I used different soil on the new seedlings due to the earlier soil test that I used for the older plants showing signs of acidity, I tested it when the LSD started showing problems awhile back. The soil I used for the newer plants was also added to the pot that I transplanted the Incredible Bulk 1 into. As far as other changes go I switched from the AN range that I was using to the Canna range, pure and simply to see if a two bottle solution (along with CalMag) would work as well as the AN range did, I could fix that step straight away as I still have plenty of the AN left.

Another thing that has changed is the PH of my water. We had a Cryptosporidium outbreak here and were unable to drink tap water for six weeks (I didn't think it was worth mentioning in the grow journal at the time). I was still feeding the plants with that water and since it has been fixed the PH of my water is now 7.5 instead of the original 7.3, again I didn't think this was worth mentioning as it just meant an extra drop of lemon juice when PH'ing the plant's feed. Maybe I should have mentioned those things.

Heat wise I fell asleep and forgot to close the window, it shouldn't have been too much of an issue during the night as the lights were on but when I went into the room the day after when the lights were back on it was very cold in there, come to think of it the LSD is nearest to the air intake which is the same side as the window. In fact the healthiest plant is the one that is furthest away from the air intake, although this didn't apply to the young girls in the other tent although the White a Widow was tucked back into the corner. This could be a part of the problem. It's certainly got me thinking.

I won't get time to pull the plants out today as although I'm still full of the flu my old friend is getting married today (my mate George the grower that I mention here sometimes), after 25 years him and his Missus have finally decided to take the plunge, I wouldn't miss it for the world. It's going to be a really busy day and as I'm feeling like dogshit at the moment it is my wife that will be doing most of the running around, I can't ask her to be pulling plants out as she's only tiny, in fact those pots are probably around a quarter maybe even a third of her size. I really don't feel up to doing it myself as yesterday I nearly collapsed in a sweating heap after pulling the three smart pots out of the tent. I know it doesn't sound like a lot of work but I have to apologise and admit that at the moment it would feel like running a marathon, I'm literally that worn down at the moment. I intend on rolling in the car, raising a glass or two then rolling home later, the wife is doing the driving. Tomorrow I will pull the plants out into natural light whatever happens.

I feel kind of like I'm asking for help while not being helpful myself and this hurts a little I have to admit, please let me assure you that this is not the case. It's just that I don't tend to get ill often it when I do everything comes at once and knocks me for six (old English cricketing term there meaning I get hit hard, as a six is hit when you hit the ball out of the playing field, a little useless information there for people that don't understand what the hell I'm on about sometimes lol). I really am grateful to be blessed with (as I Consider you all) such friends as yourselves, and I really appreciate all the help that you offer. If it doesn't seem like it then I apologise profusely, I will fix that for sure tomorrow, Ill or not. I'm on my phone in bed at the minute working up the energy to go get cleaned up and make the journey so if there are any spelling mistakes I blame the autocorrect entirely :)

Thanks for all the help and info, I won't be around until tomorrow but you have all given me a lot to think about, and tomorrow my 'can do, will do' attitude will be back. Cheers guys :thumb:

I get the feeling that although we're all a bunch of old stoners there really won't be much time for resting once I'm there, we're a bit of a boisterous bunch lol. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of my old friends together in one building, and seeing my friend finally marry his long term sweetheart, that in itself has picked me up. Have a great weekend, I'll catch up tomorrow (please Gods of beer and MJ don't let me back on later tonight when ramblings would commence). All the best :thumb:
