3rd Grow - Time For The Light Show

Wow! That was quick!
:bravo:

Thanks Colorado High.
:thanks::high-five:

Also Kriaze, if you go to Settings-General Settings, then scroll down to Thread Display Options- you can tweak the display to show threads in linear order of newest post first, among other options. Makes clicking on your journal link in signature much handier. Maybe you've already got that. I'm pretty sure the default setting is the other way around though (?). I agree with the clunkiness in some areas. The search function isn't very good so I usually use google to seach the site. Uploading pics with iphone (my only option) they have to be uploaded one at a time which is a bit of a chore.
Can't have it all and I'm sure changes will come someday. And then we will complain about them, too.

Doing this with your subs is the only way to roll!

Hey everyone thanks for all the advice it seems there are plenty of ways of doing things to achieve the same result. Thanks to everyone that gave their input and cheers to the mods and their swift response. I'll go through the posts properly later when I get on my PC and see if there are any individual replies necessary but for now I'm on my phone and it's awkward trying to scroll back and forth on here. What I will say is a great big thank you to you all for sharing your wisdom and tricks. :thumb:

Hello everyone, I decided I'd have a play with some video today. It's my first attempt and a bit messy but I hope you enjoy it. Also if anyone has any tips on how to improve my ventilation/cooling (or anything else for that matter) I would appreciate it. Anyway I'll let the video do the talking. It was edited and subtitles were added by my son who is much better than me at these things. I hope you all enjoy it and if you have any ideas just let me know. I know I need to clean up my room, sorry lol ;)

I covered the microphone at one point by mistake, we've added subtitles although we edited one wrong, this was 'fixed' on YouTube's editing page. All the best everyone :thumb:

Hey TheCelt glad you liked it mate. First attempt etc so I know that it can be improved upon. I left the extra length of ducting on in case I wanted to move it anywhere but I reckon I don't mind cutting it if it will help. How much difference do you think it will make? Even if it knocks the temps down by one degree I'll be happy. Thanks for that :thumb:

Hey Kraize

shortening and straightening your duct will likely improve your air flow by 15% or more. 16 yrs ago when I finished my Engineering I could have sat down and worked out exact numbers but its just not in me anymore to work my brain that hard LOL

By shortening and straightening out the duct, you will improve air flow 2 ways. 1st a shorter run with fewer turns (especially sharp ones) increases air flow and secondly, by stretching the duct (because its the accordion type) it opens up the effective air way. With the duct as is, a 4 inch duct only acts as a 3 1/2" reducing the cross section by almost 20% and that reduction reduces your air flow by the same factor :) Hope I explained that right LOL

15% sounds like it might knock my temps down a bit. First thing tomorrow I'll get it sorted as it's getting towards 2am now and I don't want to be making noise pushing my ducting back into that vent atm. Stealth is a must around here. Thanks a lot mate, I'll get it done tomorrow and if I see a reduction in temps I'll find a way to thank you properly...Might have to sing a song of your choice on my next vid or something lol (cannot sing) :)

Hello brotha, sorry its been so long since i stopped by but work has got me staying up crazy hours these days haha. First of all id like to say i loved the vid :thumb: and hope you make more man! i remember my first video haha i did so horrible yours is so much better in comprison and i really enjoyed getting a better perspective of the overall grow area man.

and of coarse congrats on the white widow, i would love to grow this legendary stain at least one in my lifetime :volcano-smiley:

some of the plants in the pics do look a litte of for sure, idk if its PH issue or nute burn. sorry if you already figured it out but its 2 in the morning here and i tried to read as much as i could while falling asleep at my comp haha happy growing man :Namaste:

Hello everyone. Today I prewatered each of my plants with around a quarter litre of tap water then an hour later I fed them each around 1 and half litres of water mixed with Canna Vega and CalMag at the ratio of 5ml each per litre. A little bit of lemon juice was added and bingo, we hit a reading of 6.5 PH.

The plants seem to be doing ok although I have no idea what is up with the LSD. It's still yellowing but there is new growth finally along the main stalk, so maybe it's getting over whatever was ailing it.

Here is the LSD. Still off colour but with new growth:

The Incredible Bulk girls seem to be doing fine. My only concern with these is that their lower leaves just don't seem to be high enough from the soil. I've been tempted to defoliate those particular leaves a couple of times but the plants seem to be thriving other than that, so I'll wait and see what occurs.

Here's IB 1. Note the low leaf that couldn't lift over the pot:

Here is IB 2. Note the leaves actually resting on the soil. I'm not sure this is healthy for the plant but at least it's natural and not something I've fked up myself, therefore I'll leave it this way unless anyone knows of any particular problems this may cause:

The Paradise Nebula which was a free seed seems to be doing best of them all. I can't think of anything to worry about with this one and she just seems to be doing what weeds do best.

Also I did some modifications to my venting and removed the extra ducting as advised by TheCelt (BIG :thumb: to TheCelt for this advice) after he noticed the problem on my video. So I got rid of the ducting that was dangling down between the tent and the vent in the wall, plus I also spotted a gap between the ducting and my carbon filter. I don't know how long it had been like that but it had pulled free from the tightening band that I had used so off that ducting came and I went chop chop crazy on that too before reapplying it to the scrubber and reconnecting it all to the fan.

If you noticed there is a picture that shows the temperature in the tent in one of the above pics. Now this is with my window closed which would usually bring temps to around the 89/90F mark. Yet today it was around the 84/85F mark so a nice drop of around 5 degrees in temp is definitely not something to be sniffed at. TheCelt :adore: Thank you very much, your advice was solid and worked a charm :thumb:

The offending piece of ducting on the filter:

The ducting leading to the outside vent now the extra sagging piece has been removed:

The extra ducting that has been removed. We're running a much tighter ship here now :)

In the second tent all is well except that the Big Freeze which is in a larger pot than the others was bending away from the light which was a touch too close. So I heightened the light and put a block of Polystyrene under the other 3 plant's pots to raise them to around an equal height with the big pot. All plants were given a little bit of tap water and that will be it for them until tomorrow.

Here is the Big Freeze:

The Bubblegum XL has one twisted leaf. I'm not concerned though:

The Amnesia VIP is doing her thing:

I think that pretty much covers everything indoors for now. As for the outdoors I found a Starbucks in town and asked them about coffee grounds for my compost. They gave me a bagful and told me to go back next week for more if I like. Great stuff I say! So those grounds went into the composting bin along with a couple of shovels of soil from the garden itself. Now I noticed what looked like some really fertile black soil at the back of the garden. I shovelled a spade full of this into the compost bin before realising that it was the soil from my last grows. It had been covered with grass cuttings from when I mow my lawn and I hadn't really given it a thought. I saw it and it looked so fertile that I couldn't resist throwing some in. Now whether this is a bad thing as I use nutrients in my grows as of yet I don't know. Either way it was one spade full so I can't (fingers crossed) see it doing too much harm.

That concludes my journal for today. I wish everyone all the best and as ever your input is valued and appreciated. All the best :thumb:

Hey TheCelt it's all down to you and your spotting my problem on the video mate. Isn't this magazine great when someone just comes along and pretty much fixes an issue by just spotting something that was missed? Thanks again and I'm a happy chap today after seeing those temperatures :thumb:

Looks like you're getting the garden dialed in nicely and everything is falling into place.
:goodjob:

Don't worry about cutting those bottom most leaves off.
In fact, now that they've grown it would be best to trim off any leaves that are making regular contact with the soil in order to prevent potential soil borne diseases from moving up to the canopy.

Thanks UncleCannabis, I knew there was a reason why I should, I didn't think about that. Cheers ears and appreciated :thumb: Lights on and I'll take them off. Thanks :ganjamon:
