300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

Re: 420 Cannasumer Reports Competition - GrowLEDHydro 300w LED vs. 400w HID

It's the adult gene showin'..... All good

What dog said!
:cheertwo:
I learned this from him!

I had a plant that was CRAZY pre-flowers, 24/0. So it's just another weird thing that we can label "strain dependent". I took many cuttings from my lady, and all survived. She did, however, turn out or turn into a hermie...which kinda ruined everything later on...

Glad your back and rolling SS! It's just not the same without you here.

High SS! I want to try a T5 experiment. When you have a moment would you be kind enough to check out the "Help me find a strain" link in my siggy.

:thanks: brother

ive always gotten pre flowers with 18/6 also thats why i do 24/0.. they wont bud just show a little pre flowers.. not too sure if that will effect the cutting when you take them? maybe just take longer for them to do their thing?

thanks guys ;)

at least I know it's a she. Would piss me off to pamper a bunch of male clones, lol.

This is the mom after I took the second set of cuttings and did a little pruning.

Pure Power Plant, beautiful foliage.

This is the second set of cuttings in coco mini-hempy cups.

First set of cuttings doing great in coco. Gave them some seaweed extract and 1tsp FF Grow Big Hydro, tap water.

Hopefully, there will be lots of clones to select from for the next grow.

Re: 420 Cannasumer Reports Competition - GrowLEDHydro 300w LED vs. 400w HID

they look very nice and healthy, gonna be hard to choose from in my book..

They're going to be looking even nicer and healthier once this arrives:

tek4.jpg

The first set of clones are ready for a good veg light, and I was going to put them in the HID tent under a 250w MH bulb, but then when I start the comparison, that might give the 400w HID light an advantage because all the clones will be acclimated to HID, and half of them will be going under an LED.

So, I'll continue to veg them under the HTG T5, and when I split them up into the HID and LED tents, all the clones will have to make an adjustment, not just the LED clones.

very smart thinking!! i remember what happen to Pit Vipers plants once they were from HID to LED.. best not to take that chance, just in case.

Re: 420 Cannasumer Reports Competition - GrowLEDHydro 300w LED vs. 400w HID

I'm thinking of clearing some space in an outdoor shed for keeping moms and rooting clones, and the buzz wouldn't bother me out there, but it's too cold for an LED light.

I need the heat from an HID bulb and ballast out there.

Excellent idea otherwise, however.

You think a dark unpainted redwood fence reflects enough to cause burn? I know you asked me about that fence a long time ago in a PM, and I've been wondering why ever since.

I was thinking of making it more reflective by tacking up some panda behind the plants.

thanks bel ;)

Re: 420 Cannasumer Reports Competition - GrowLEDHydro 300w LED vs. 400w HID

Wouldn't that be bug city out their?

It's an aluminum shed, framed with 2" X 2"s. I got tired of having steel sheds rust out, so a few years ago, I bought a couple of aluminum sheds.

One additional benefit I wasn't expecting is that bugs don't seem to like aluminum sheds very much. Far fewer bugs with these sheds, but a no-pest strip should help, and I'm thinking of making a grow box inside the shed from cedar fence boards, which will at the least add insult to injury, lol.

But yeah, it's bug city outside. The white flies, especially, are all over my lawn, flowers and vegetables. Big clouds of them when disturbed. My outdoor LR2's are fending them off just fine with no intervention from me, but I think the combination of aluminum shed, hot-shot strip, and cedar will do the trick.

If not, I have a storage cabinet in the garage I can make into a grow box once I figure out where else to put all the crap I got in there ;).

The Haight light won't fit in the garage cabinet, but some 24" T5's or CFL's would work well for moms & clones.

Re: 420 Cannasumer Reports Competition - GrowLEDHydro 300w LED vs. 400w HID

I don't know how big your shed is, but Grow Unit 1 is self contained within an 8' X 8' storage shed. I put the 400 W CMH in the floritorium with the ballast on the outside of the flower room, I still need to run a heater [lights on at nite to save $] We will b putting another 400 W the floratorium after we chop [day 50 2day, chop around the 26th] and I'm hopeful that this should stabilize room temps. Are you in a position to do something like this? It's in the middle of a backyard, surrounded by a chicken wire cage covered in Morning Glories.:smokin:

If I was single, I would be in a position to do something like that, lol, but Mrs. Sun has this strange need to have some living space not filled with plants and grow gear, and while I don't understand that need myself, I must respect it.

The sheds are 8' X 10', but I can't dedicate one to growing at this point in time.

The dark fence is essentially an IR mirror, that's why I asked about it, those plants were kinda close to the wall, and yes, I do think that this probably was responsible for what happened.

A mirror for IR heat, light, or both? I still think those plants getting burned was the result of taking them out of a greenhouse environment into direct sunlight during a heat wave, but I'm curious because the best place to grow as regards sunlight in my backyard is right along that east-west fence. The sun arcs right over it.

So how high are those closely trained sativas off the ground? Must be lots of work to keep them that low, but very stealthy in certain situations.

In the pattern and holding.

The two flowering clones from Vicky, my VK cross, have finally re-veg'd.

The new HTG T5 is in-transit.

I'll probably set things up in the HID tent temporarily until I harvest the Sunset Kush and both tents become available.

I wouldn't say that I'm an expert at cloning at this point in time, but I'm no longer freaked out by it.

I don't see why anyone who can sprout seeds wouldn't be able to clone plants.

Glad you are more comfortable with cloning SS. It is so simple it's stupid!

I can't see how people can plant seeds, at all! They are so needy/picky/etc.

That's my 2cents though!

Things be looking great SS! Oh and I got my RO system up and running!! No more crazy TA!

Re: 420 Cannasumer Reports Competition - GrowLEDHydro 300w LED vs. 400w HID

How about Blue Dream? I just got a couple of clones as a gift and am growing one outside to get a quick finish, the other as a mother, do you have any info, or tips with this strain? If I have trouble cloning, I can always air-layer, or ground-layer them, just more trouble.

b

Sorry I have not had Blue Dream.. But if it's part of the blueberry family (and I think it is) the cloning environment needs to be very humid for at least the first 14 days... At least that's been my experience with the blue family... Cloning machines and such need humidly domes for sure.. If not my success rate seems to be below 50%...
