2 Girls & 1 Kit: Major PITA Takes High Brix Outdoors, Summer 2015

I'm with neiko here Major. What shine in those leaves. Big reps! :thumb:

Good God man! Those are beautiful, the shine is mirror like. Keep up the good work Major! :high-five:

I'de say, nice or what. Major, youre doing a great job with your journal and your plants....oh , and best of all...you're great company!Cheers eh. :high-five:

Nothing boring about healthy, vibrant outdoor-grown cannabis (and those other things).

Well done man.

WOW - Thanks all!
If there are recommendations about anything, I'm all ears. It feel like I should be doing something more. Doc makes it too easy. I'm sure glad I found the Hi Brix "Brigade".
I haven't done any more pruning but since I'm outdoors, I'm not sure how much more should be done. For the most part the entire plant gets a lot of light. When I Brix them in the morning I'll take a deeper look to see if more stuff can come off the inside.
I hope you have a great evening! :Namaste:

The Weakly (Week #10 / Day #67)
10 days and counting to legal recreational in Oregon

Happy Summer Solstice Eve! :420: Since tomorrow is the beginning of summer for the northern hemisphere - the longest day of the year, I guess that means my plants get flipped on Monday. :cheesygrinsmiley:

All I have to offer are more boring veg pics. The plants each added 5-10 inches last week, with 7", (1" per day) being the average. I could swear they were growing more quickly up until the last couple of days. I'll know by the next update if I'm right and their growth has put the brakes on. If so, I suspect it is because these 25 gal pots are FULL. Shoulda, coulda, woulda used 50's if I'd known...

The Ace of Spades are still the biggest AND the smallest at an even 4 feet for the one in Hi Brix and 38 inches for the one in OrGanic soil. I still also suck at getting photos that are interesting and give any point of reference. The Mod's do not like it when I take regular garden/pond/yard pictures so I try to stay in tight.

There is a very nice skunky scent in the garden these days. :thumb:

The PB last got 150% of what I call drench #4 = 1/4 Transplant (if that makes any sense) = 5.5 ml. The AoS got 150% of my Drench #1 = 22 ml Transplant + 2 ml Tea. Tomorrow is Brix day for them. It now takes 16 oz. water + 16 ml Brix to give the two of them a good misting.

I've noticed each plant drinks just about 1 gallon per day. When I give them 4 gallons, they can go 4 days. With 2 gallons, they need it every other day. Now that the pots are full o' roots, I am going with feedings/waterings every other day and returning to a 100% drench concentration. My 100% concentration will be 15 ml G.E. or Trans and 1.5 ml Tea. The 1/4 Trans water will be back to 4 ml per plant. So every other day each plant will rotate through:

Drench #1 = 15 ml Transplant + 1.5 ml Tea
Drench #2 = 4 ml (1/4) Transplant water
Drench #3 = 15 ml Growth Energy + 1.5 ml Tea + 4 ml (1/4) Transplant
Drench #4 = 4 ml (1/4) Transplant water
REPEAT

I may get spanked, but as a side note, I hand fertilized some of the corn yesterday (not what you think :thedoubletake: :laughtwo:). The old saying for corn goes, "Knee high by the fourth of July." We still have 10 more days in June and the corn ranges from 3 to more than 6 feet tall - most about 5'.

The chard, broccoli and peas are done. Tomatoes and peppers are coming on strong. Some of the tomato plants are as big as the MJ! All are at the opposite end of the garden so you may never see them. More zucchini than I know what to do with. Other squash, eggplants, tomatillos just getting going. Potatoes and beets are looking close to done. Carrots never got going. <_<.

That's all folks! Enjoy this beautiful weekend. Summer begins tomorrow, so it is all downhill from here. Please stay tuned. I'm looking forward to some bud shots. If there is anything you'd like to see or know that would make my journal more interesting, let me know.

:thankyou: for following, my friends.

seriously inspiring.

having the time of my life doing what I want drooling on your garden. I'm only about 48% talking about the weed.

Well, I wouldn't worry too much about pruning. I'd keep the very lowest nodes clean and clear of the ground (mild lollipopping in a way), but otherwise, I'd let them grow. I think you'll have a bigger issue on what to do with them when they outgrow their current homes...:bitingnails:

I grew outdoors for many years and rarely did we have plants as healthy-looking as yours are right now. Lovin' it

Thanks for that, Gov!
IDK the best way to handle them now that they've filled the pots and still have another 11+ weeks to go.
It seems like a heavy hand with Transplant and Tea is all I can do to try to compensate for them being rootbound.

To anyone: If you've had a HB plant in too small of a pot, what has been the most successful method of dealing with it (other than transplanting to a bigger home)?

I'm taking a hard left turn in my journal today.

As you probably know, I've been counting down the days until we have legal recreational here. As usual, if the government can muck up something good, they will. This is no exception. On July 1st it will be legal for adults to possess and consume MJ, but they cannot buy it anywhere. Instead of keeping it off the black market and making bank on legally purchased MJ tax dollars, Oregon is dragging its feet on setting up outlets. We already have a ton of medical dispensaries that could do a good job, IMO, but they are not allowed to sell to the recreational consumer - so far.

My idea is to start taking cuttings so I can give them to friends in need. I also want to try a method of keeping a strain around for my own use once the plants have been harvested. I find re-veg's take too long. I prefer cuttings. Enter...

The Bonzai Mom Experiment
This plant is the same Ace of Spades I have down in my garden. It has been in a 1 gal. pot for many months and has been completely neglected. It has PM (or something), but keeps chugging along. No great loss if it doesn't take. I think I can get rid of the PM if the cuttings and/or Mom survive. There is nothing new to this. I found all the info on 420, but thought it would make a good addition to this journal and might help someone else who is interested. Here we go...

My potential Mom with its future home. How often do we down-pot a plant?

First step: Take cuttings and chop it way back. I left a few nodes. I like to use wire cutters for woody stems.

New cuttings in my DIY bubble cloner. I may go back and trim them up some, but I haven't had problems with wilting in the past. My humidity dome (plastic salad container) is not in place 'cuz you can't see much when it covers them.
20150622_101524.jpg

Now that the cuttings are safe, it is time to get back to the Mom. First, knock it out of the 1 gal. pot.
20150622_102858.jpg

The first cut is the deepest. Actually the second cut is just as deep. :cheesygrinsmiley:

The other two sides and bottom are also removed to fit the 4" pot. It went from being root bound in a 1 gallon pot down to a 1 quart pot.

I added a little fresh peat moss with EWC mixed in. and watered it well.

In theory these Moms can last many years and provide fresh clones every two or three weeks. They are capable of producing literally thousand of cuttings every year. Time will tell.

:bravo: I like the way you respond, not in being angry and frustrated, but with a sense if action to help forward the cause of those not as fortunate to have the bounty of your garden. You're the kind if neighbor people dream of Major. Well done.

And we get to watch a Bonsai Mother at the same time. How incredibly cool. :yahoo:

Question Pita, Do you think cuttings do better with a lot of foliage like yours have? I just started using a cloner but have had 2 cuttings with great root structure that didn't make it after planting. My track record has greatly improved but if the larger cuttings do better so be it.

I don't know Reg. That is going to be part of this experiment. I did it as simply and quickly as possible. If they don't make it I have a ton more I can take from the healthy girls in the garden. Last time my cuttings were a little smaller and I had 100% success. I may go back and trim some leaves from this batch but I'd like to see if they work "the easy way". I didn't use any rooting hormone or anything else - just cut 'em and put them in water. Because of the past neglect and PM, both mom and cuttings all have an uphill battle in front of them. Come back in two weeks and we'll see how it went (or not).

I actually put a couple of drops of Clonex in the cloner water instead of on the cuttings the last time I change the water. It only makes sense since it gets washed off anyway plus you'll use less gel that way.

I've been reading this grow from the start with interest. Major, you have inspired me to grow outside too. My HB soil is "cooked" and ready now and I have 4 Green Crack feminized seeds just as anxious as I am to start my second grow. We both live in Oregon and intend to grow outside. Come July 1st I might have some green flourishing in the sun as well as some clones from my tent plants.

I also love your idea of having some clones ready for people to use.

Here goes, seeds are in water. :green_heart:

That's awesome Tranquil! If you do it, please let me know so I can follow along. Best of luck!

Hey Major....i liked the pic of Sylvester...put a big grin on brotha! :thumb:

Thanks duggan!
That's my wife's handiwork. It says, "Birdtheed". She keeps seed in it for our feathered friends.

Ya...:thumb: Say hi to Mrs. Pita ...she sounds cool brotha!:circle-of-love:

Mrs. PITA says, "Hi!" back to you all. :byebye:

I forgot an important point (THE important point) as to why I decided to try a bonzai mom. Not only does it take up less space indoors, but in Oregon, a plant under 12" tall and 12" in diameter is considered an immature plant or seedling. It doesn't go against my legal plant count. As long as I keep it/them cut back, I can get all the clones I want and still grow the same number of flowering plants.
