2 Girls & 1 Kit: Major PITA Takes High Brix Outdoors, Summer 2015

there are/were couple HB growers that had pics roots through the soft pots..Curso perhaps?

Do you mean roots through the sides or the bottom? They shouldn't be coming through the sides at all, but I could see where contact is made with the ground or with a SWICK.

These pots are buried in the ground to help with temperature and moisture. So, I guess I have roots EVERYWHERE!
Maybe I need to mix up more Trans and GE and spread it beyond the pots.

Doc - what do you think? The soil around the pots is not "kit" soil so I haven't been treating it as such. Is using GE, Tea and Trans a good idea on it, or no?

You really don't have a choice. And if feeder roots creep into your "regular" soil you won't exactly be high brix....but that doesn't mean you won't have a fantastic plant. I'd especially use the GE product on the surrounding soil, along with Tea and Transplant.

Use a hose end sprayer.

FYI, I just emptied the smart pots I used for my last grow where I stacked the smart pots, a three gallon inside a seven or five gallon and the roots most definitely go through the pot where they came in contact with soil. The three gallon pots I used are layered with roots,, strong roots. So, if they are ON soil,, they are IN soil. Good luck with the refracto meter,, I only did one today and got an 11, in veg. I was disappointed and stopped... Guess from reading this it's not bad. I'll do more tomorrow and this weekend...

Good to know MMM! :thanks:

Ive been using GE and Transplant on my tomatoes in the greenhouse and theyre at least 4 times larger than the ones that dont get said nutrients. And once I'm done spraying all my cannabis with brix, the greenhouse tomatoes get the rest...theyre gonna be awesome :)

Those tomatoes were started in hb soil btw :)

I gave the plants their usual drenches this morning and grabbed a single fan leaf while I was there. It came from the bottom, interior of the OG AoS. It was fully shaded. I used Doc's recommended mortar and pestle method which makes it much easier to get several drops of juice. The reading was 10. Means nothing, but there you go.

They seem to be handling the heat well. The top leaves taco a little to help them reduce their exposure in the late afternoon. Today and tomorrow will be the big tests with temps hitting close to 110 and not even a good cool-down overnight. Everything is De-Stressed and well-watered.

Update tomorrow.

Mornin Major....Man that's gonna be hot eh. I'l be thinken of ya this weekend dealing with that heat. We will see just how much heat they can tolerate. Is there anything else you could do to help them out a lil...maybe mist them every few hours with cold water....dunno bud ,just thinken out loud eh.Cheers...and like I said I'm pulling for you pal.

How about a fan or some shade?

After reading these posts, I'm motivated to go do a brix test on mine for the first time. Took the day off to exact a few home repairs and now have some free time at home...that's a rarity.

I'll post my numbers, good or bad, in a little while if that's cool Major.

Good day to you Major,

:hmmmm:I would think that high brix plants would handle the heat better than your (probably good but not lab formulated) OG soil. Wich plants seem to be handling the heat better? If the OG soil plants are doing better in the severe heat could it be because of the excess potassium?

Excellent ideas, comments and questions! Here goes...

This has been my only line of defense so far. In the hotest part of the day, I go down a couple of times and mist them thoroughly. I hope it helps. Seems like it should. I know it feels good to me.

I was thinking of how to offer a little shade. No electricity in the area for a fan. I may try to rig up a tarp to give them some shade for the next several days.

Anytime! That would be way cool. I'd like to know what you get. The more brix readings the better, IMO.

Not much difference. If I had to pick, I'd say the "OG" plants are taking it better. They don't taco as much or look quite as sleepy in the heat. Your idea is probably correct. At least it is as good as anytihng I can come up with.

Thanks for following and for the feedback!

Good luck Major. I'll be thinking of you. Misting benefits you too. That's good incentive for frequent trips.

Before I misted the plants I grabbed another leaf. Same location as last time but this one came from the HB AoS.
Brix = 12.

my first time ever taking brix readings, but I'm a lab rat so it went pretty smoothly.

Mortar & pestle...CHECK!

Refractometer, cleaned and calibrated...CHECK CHECK!

A brace of fan leaves from 2/3 down on the same plant...CHECK CHECK CHECK!

Mashed the shit out of 3 of them, including petiole...

I opted for the vice-grip +2-quarter method to squeeze out dat joose (in the words of Seth Lavender) and took a picture with my cell phone through the lens of the refracto meter...

Sweet Gov! Well done sir.

I just picked up two 300W LED lights for my next indoor grow. For $61.49 and free shipping I had to take a gamble on them. I figure they will work either for supplemental light in the bloom room, or I can veg my cuttings.

The weekend is here. Have a great one, my friends!

At that price one of us has to give it a whirl so we can all get as bird's eye view Pita. Thanxx...
