2 Girls & 1 Kit: Major PITA Takes High Brix Outdoors, Summer 2015

At that price one of us has to give it a whirl so we can all get as bird's eye view Pita. Thanxx...

The problem will be, I have nothing to compare them to. I've never used LEDs before. Also, I can fire them up but won't have any use for them for several months ... probably ... maybe ... hmmm.

I just picked up two 300W LED lights for my next indoor grow. For $61.49 and free shipping I had to take a gamble on them. I figure they will work either for supplemental light in the bloom room, or I can veg my cuttings.

The weekend is here. Have a great one, my friends!

61.49 man, I got an oil change today for more than that... I bet you could get a lite bright to give you more PAR..lololol... Just kidding, Major. If it works I'll be first in line... Good luck with the Chinese lite bright ;) some Asian kid doesn't need Sally Struthers thanks to you...:volcano-smiley:

Mornin Major...no way....two 300w led's for 60 bones incl. shipping...i can hardly believe it brotha. You might not like the results...and get a bad impression of led's since ,like you said, you have nothing to compare them too...not even any other experience with led's. I've always thought "you get what ya pay for" 'buy cheap, buy twice" I really hope i'm wrong bud, really! If i am i'm gonna get a few of em. I'm still dreaming about a brand new P600, since the shape of that light fits my needs perfectly. Good luck with em Major...this is one time i think luck may play a part! Cheers bud and have an awesome day with mrs. pita.

Yep, I agree Duggs...I wouldnt spend $ on something that isn't tried and tested. Ill be picking up 2 p600s and another p450 soon cuz I KNOW they work :)
Mornin Major!!! :)

Mornin Major!!! :)

OK bud...now i feel better about your purchase....at least you don't have high hopes for em and realize you still need the good stuff to get it done right! Awesome Major....keep us all posted on your "heat battles " this weekend will ya. Where's my java?:tokin:
A pisser...that was you Scrubbs...sorry Major. Scrubbs top of the mornin to ya brotha.....ya , i know...i'm not even awake yet...not hard to tell eh....duhhh!

No worries guys. If you have no expectations, it is hard to be disappointed.

BTW, they were $61.49 each. I know it is almost certainly money down the drain. I don't think you can build one that cheap. I'll keep you posted on the lights. They should arrive late next week and I can see if they blow up or at least give off some light.

Maybe somneone can explain why LEDs usually have two wattage figures. I see numbers like 600 watts, but then you read the spec's and they draw a max of 2.2 amps at 115 volts. Obviously, even if the power supply is 100% efficient, they cannot be 600 watts. They are, at most, 250 watts. What gives with all the bogus ratings out there?

The 600 watts is an equivalent. When you're calculating watts used this number is useless. These panels are just for filler anyway, yes? I picked mine up to catch that corner I was missing.

The price is because they're selling them off to make room for the new, improved models. It's the kind of purchase you make knowing you may have tossed that $70 but if you get some use out of it you came out ahead. Dennise has one and is quite pleased with it. They're Mars Hydro, obviously not in the same ballpark as Platnium. Duggan, you envisioning that P600 in your GR yet? I know I am. :battingeyelashes: I'm saving up for mine now. Decided to save for when I'm ready to do monster plants again and give you guys a run for POTM. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I don't know this as fact but it seems to me the 600 means that is equivalent to 600 watts of brightness? But only draws have of that which is where they get the actual draw?

I say this cause the led replacement bulbs for your house fixture have this claim........just my 2cents.....:cheesygrinsmiley:

Duggs your a electric guys........

Ya Nate ...you just said it brotha. The first number on the light info is the equivalent of wattage of brightness the second one in the specs. is the actual amperage draw....this is the most important number ...the other one is just a bunch of Fluff! look at the specs not the other one....it really means nothing , to me anyhow. I wanna know what the thing is gonna suck from my panel....that's the number we should be lookin at. Hope this helped with that....cheers eh......Duggs.

POTM....what's that!!!! Hey Sue...mornin girl....P600....no not yet....still waitin to win the lotto! It's so far down on my priority list it's not funny. It would however suit my needs perfectly though, cuz of the shape of it and the penetrating ability it has.

Looks like it's gonna be a muggy hot one here in Oregon. High is supposed to be 103. Lots of cloud cover and me thinks storms are brewing. I gave all my plants a good covering of Docs de-stress formula yesterday morning before the sun came up and they made it through 97 degrees in my tent looking much better, in fact they look real happy.

I wanted to say I have a refractometer too. I have not used it yet but I think I will go check the brix on my plants that are not grown in the brix fashion other than getting some de-stress yesterday. I'll report back with the results.

Same here. No rain is predicted, but around 105. Big storm clouds. The local weather says they will drop precipitation but it will evaporate before it hits the ground. It was 80 degrees when I rolled out of bed about 4:30am.

Looking forward to your brix readings!

Shoot folks, let's wait until the lamps arrive & Pita gives us his opinion on how bright they are before we make it unanimous that they're not worth anything. Then go from there.

More brix readings:

OK here it is, my brix readings of my soil grown White Widow. She had a hard start but greened up as she got further into growing.
Brix 10
:cheesygrinsmiley:

And now for the surprise...

My Chocolate Kush was in my DWC for many weeks until I decided to put her out, tearing the roots that were tangled with the others and put her into soil a few weeks ago. She went into Organic soil, not HB soil, and she stumbled along for a week and suddenly took off.
Brix 13.5
:rasta:

I calibrated my refractometer both before and after so I suppose this is correct. Considering the stress the Chocolate Kush went through she really has done well.

Hey Tranquil -
13.5 is great! Thanks for the readings. If you feel like it, I'd be curious what you get from them down the road a ways.

I agree, sorry if my playful mood started the shit storm. Unfortunately, it's all built overseas. I'm not naive to think otherwise. But,,, I don't know. Wish you the best Major. At least when you have them you'll have something to see, and compare. I'm just a dope on a rope with my lights,,, so far, they making some good dope..

Yup, mine too! Really nice :)

Obviously, even if the power supply is 100% efficient, they cannot be 600 watts. They are, at most, 250 watts. What gives with all the bogus ratings out there?

The LED listed wattage is the wattage of the diodes, like 100 3 watt diodes would be a 300 watt light, the drivers don't run the at the full 3 watts hence the lower power draw. That's the way I've come to understand it, it lengthens the life of the diode to only drive them at approx. 50-60%. This is a big reason wattage doesn't matter when it comes to LED it is really just a marketing tool so people can try to compare growing power of LED against hps. We all know certain lights with high wattage values get out performed by higher quality LED's with lower wattage values. Hope that helps.

I figured the higher wattage claims must be a light equivalency. I wish they would come up with universal standard way of measuring. Taking the least efficient light source and then comparing the wattage to that source is just dumb. Likewise, even when using the current draw from the electrical service, you get a false comparison. One power supply can be considerably more efficient than the next. It may appear to offer higher wattage to the diodes, but if it is of poor design, some of that power will be nothing more than added heat. I swear my old mechanical MH ballasts were so loud and hot, I think half their power draw went to generating noise and heat.

The whole LED rating B.S. reminds me of early audio gear spec' wars. Some companies would offer amplifier ratings in I.P.P. wattage. This "instantaneous peak power" is totally misleading for anything you'd want to listen to. A 1000W amp might only be able to provide 100W of clean power over the full audio spectrum. Luckily they did standardize on R.M.S. power. Now with home theater, even that standard is gone and we are back to comparing apples and oranges.

Again - no shit storm here for being skeptical about these cheap LEDs. I hope this doesn't cause a storm, but I don't care where something is made. China, Mexico, USA, India - they are all capable of making excellent gear. They can also turn out pure crap.

I was going offer some sort of review of them, but after reading the 420 posting guidelines (again), it appears we are not allowed to mention non-sponsored LEDs. While I strongly disagree with this kind of censorship, this is not my forum so as long as I'm here, I will try to abide by the rules.
