2 Girls & 1 Kit: Major PITA Takes High Brix Outdoors, Summer 2015

Dude, mars makes some great lights! I have a 900 watt mars ll flowering my rare darkness right now and theyre doing fantastic!!! :)

Have you / do you use HID lights? I'm wondering if I'm right in thinking the light penetration isn't as strong with LEDs?
I'm happy with the purchase for sure, and may get more.

Worth a try for the price.

I'm with Scrubby. Mars Hydro makes some great lights. I have a 400w (80x5w) Mars Hydro II and the older 300w (100x3w) Mars Hydro in my 27"x27"x63" tent and they seem to be killing it. Can't wait till I get some strains from my friend, so I can compare results to his HPS and LEC (Light Emitting Ceramic) lights.

I must say that Mars Hydro lights aren't the best tech out there, but for a beginner on a budget with space and ventilation issues I couldn't be happier.

My 27"x27"x63" tent set-up w/ CFL underlighting (white balance adjusted):

This photo does a much better job at showing light penetration (auto white balance).

I used HIDs for my first grow...been LED ever since. I couldnt tell you about penetration but I know im getting more from LED than I did using HID lamps :)

Dude, you didn't say those cheap LED panels you ordered were from TopLed's Mars series! I might have to make my move.

Ok, question time. You told me in my NCG 3.5 thread not to worry about the clone I had that was producing pistils under 18/6; Now I'm starting to worry.
She's on day 16, has been FIM'ed, and received her first dose of nutes & is still putting out pistils. How long did yours go on like this before regular vegging occured?

I wish I could remember, Reg. It added new pistils for quite a while. Eventually the new growth had only the slightest indication, like when a plant first shows its sex, but never any calyx development. As long as you had good roots, you see new growth, and the photoperiod is long enough, I can't see it causing problems. I've only done this a couple of times so someone with more experience may call me on it.

I think it is the shock of taking a cutting that makes the plant try to reproduce, but once it is back on it "feet", it goes back into full veg mode. I tried my simple down and dirty cloning a couple of weeks ago. They didn't work out, but all added pistils. After two weeks the root development was minimal so I culled them all and started again. This time I did it the way I usually do. Assuming they work, I'll try to see if I get pistils again and how long they continue.

Thanxx Pita. I feel a lot better now. Happy Belated 4th.

I was thinking about the same thing but didn't respond figuring BAR was onto something more advanced than my wavelength.

Thanks man! Same to you and BG.

Brix this morning for the HB Pitbull and Ace of Spades.
Since I think preflowers are going to start soon, I took cuttings and did some clean up by pruning more of the lower and interior secondary branches. I ended up removing four pounds of leaf and branches off the four plants. I was going to take an after picture, but we have a serious thunderstorm going on. I'll get one tomorrow. Pruning was done partly because the earwig population is getting a little too heavy. I also removed some weeds, old leaves, and the poppies that were around the plants. Now it's just MJ and corn in that end of the garden.

I grabbed a couple of quick pic's to show the pruning and cleanup. One of my goals is to put a dent in the earwig population and give the plants better air circulation for mold/rot prevention once they flower. I think I have more to do, but it's a start and hopefully a step in the right direction. There is a lot less leaf and suckers internally that probably isn't obvious in these pictures.

Good job. That pruning will help with all the things you're after. Better buds on healthier plants AND reduction of ground-borne critters.

es bueno.

p.s. They're still gonna get BIG...lmao

I grabbed a couple more brix measurements today. I'm still using internal fan leaves from about mid way up the plant. Both the Pitbull and Ace of Spades rolled a sharp (easy to read) 15 this time around. Not too bad for being from shade leaves still in full veg.

I tried to get a picture of the reading, but IDK how you guys do it. My phone focused on the eye piece lens. Even though the readings looked pretty good on-screen, the images were unusable crap. I'm looking forward to some bud readings in a couple of months.
