2 Girls & 1 Kit: Major PITA Takes High Brix Outdoors, Summer 2015

15 in veg is really good, most growers don't go over 12 before early flowering :high-five:

15 is amazing! I wonder if the real sun had anything to do with that along with the kit soil? Hmmm...
Now just to keep doing what youre doing bro! I can just imagine what theyre gonna look like in a few months!!! How long will they go outdoors Major? Does the breeder specify outdoor harvest times?

Things have been going really great until last night. We had one helluva thunderstorm. The worst of it only lasted a little over an hour but it was not good. We had sustained winds of more than 50 MPH with plenty of much higher gusts. Local hail ranged from 1/4" up to golfball size (luckily not here). We received more than 1" of rain in that hour along with many hundreds of lightning strikes. Power was out.

I went down to the garden this morning with a sinking feeling. Plenty of downed trees and branches. The MJ plants weathered the storm pretty well. They look a little beat up and bedraggled this morning, but will recover as long as we don't have repeat performances for the rest of the week. We are supposed to get more of the same, but not as bad. Our tomatoes got the worst of it. The wind knocked over their cages and they were flattened. They landed on our peppers which also got smashed. Hopefully all will rebound.

Today is scheduled to be their GE drench. With all the rain, I'm not sure. I'd still like to give them their GE, Trans and Tea so I think I'm going to mix it up but only using a couple of gallons of water for each. Those of you who envy outside grows, be careful what you wish for. At least indoors you have a controlled environment and limited space to deal with pests.

No idea why the increase in brix. I need to take a few more to confirm. The refractometer calibration was spot on, both before and after the readings were taken. This time around the measurements were easier to read since there was a sharper line from clear to blue. The entire change was over less than 0.5 brix.

This is the information I have about the two strains. Reasonably short flowering since both are Indica dominant. If I remember correctly AoS is 60/40 and PB is 70/30. Below are descriptions I pulled from the interwebz.

Ace of Spades is a creation from TGA Subcool Seeds that takes advantage of the popular sweet and sour combination that never goes out of style. A crossbreed of Black Cherry Soda and Jack the Ripper, this strain has an earthy berry and citrus smell that carries over into the taste with distinctly lemony flavors. Ace of Spades plants grow fast and need a lot of space because they will get both bushy and tall. Flowering occurs at 8 weeks and they are generally large and heavy. These buds are pretty to look at with a range of colors that can include purples, blues, and pinks all coated in orange hairs.

Pitbull was bred in the early 2000s by U.S. seed company Stoney Girl Gardens as a cross between P-91 and their own award-winning Sugar Plum. This mostly indica strain has an extremely quick flowering time at 6-7 weeks. Just like the dog breed it’s named after, this plant is tenacious, making it a versatile grower indoors or out that produces high yields. Buds will be light green and fragrant, smelling of tropical fruit with earthy, skunky notes. Pitbull’s taste is also fruity and its indica buzz hits fast and hard.

Now the question is, when do I start the bloom countdown. Since the natural "flip" is so gradual, it will be interesting. I'll wait until I see definite calyx development.

Cheers all! :Namaste:

Sorry to hear about the storm last night. From extreme heat waves to devastating thunder storms, you have some interesting weather to deal with. Hope your gardens rebound. Good news at least the large hail missed you. That stuff will shred a garden in minutes.

Thanks Snoop!
They got beat up pretty good, but if our hail had been larger, they could all be toast. We had plenty of hail but it was on the small side, like 3/8". We'll see how they look by the weakly update.

Major....just read your post ...of the storm!! Wow ,dude, your some lucky the big stuff missed ya. GLAD to hear they're gonna be OK. Too bad about the rest that got scrunched...will all that stuff be OK too, or is it toast? Anyhow , here's hoping you get lucky again and have no more freekish storms. Cheers pal....thinkin of ya!

Thanks bud!

Not sure how bad it will be. We definitely lost some tomatoes and peppers, and probably some corn. I didn't take a hard look at our squash but I think they will be OK. Other crops are either done by now or early enough to recover, with any luck.

We have more large weather on the way from the looks of things outside. This is the kind of crap I'm worried about when getting near harvest. It is totally weird to have it happen this time of year. The whole year has been wild: dry/mild winter, then a spring that had a near flood, followed by the warmest weather I can remember. Now this. I'm thinking winter could be hellacious.

Oh well - it's all part of life's rich pageantry here in Happy Valley... :cheesygrinsmiley:

Mornin Major....thinken of ya pal....how was mother nature to ya last night? Things gonna be OK? Did ya have any extra support for your girls outside or were they strong enough all by themselves to survive that blast from the other night? Cheers bud!:high-five:

Thanks, my friend!

All was good. Cloudy but no more storms, so far. We had a little more rain, but not much at all. This weather pattern is supposed to last through the weekend - then back to hot. We are actually about average temperature for the next few days = mid-upper 80's. Just about perfect.

No extra support for them. The severity of the storm surprised everyone. All-in-all, they took it like troopers. Lost some leaves but the MJ plants were better off than much of the rest of our garden. With any luck I dodged the bullet ... this time.

I'm loving the looks of your girls. You've got fire there. Cheers! :high-five:

I'm doing a reverse Rain/Storm Dance for you Pita... :goof:

Good luck, I'm sure they'll weather it. Dem sum tough sum bitches. But, we had rough weather the past two nights and unlike last year without, I slept much better with my greenhouse. Biggest issue I have is RH inside there,, no hail though.....
