1st Time Grow For My Beautiful Broken Brain

Not long to go for this nice wee pile of soil to be ready.

Cooking away is coco coir, earth worm castings, perlite, volcanic rock dust, gypsum, mycorrhizae fungi, blood fish & bone meal, chitin crab meal. Oh.... and a huge bit of hopeful healing vibrations.

It's definitely a boat .load. ;) You totally got this.

How will you vent this sucker?

I honestly have no idea at the moment GTHM ..

How long does it take for the aromas of the plants to start becoming very noticeable, only when flipped to flower?

Things are tight financially just now so no spare pennies to invest in equipment.

I'm about to loose my job of 12 years next week, so any severance/redundancy pay will have to be invested very wisely.

I also still need to try to call in a favour from my electrician genius friend to get a power supply up there.
I'm about to start trying to convert the loft space anyway so needs to happen soon.

Here's a wee pic of a nice jar of goodness.
2 tablespoons of raw Finola hemp seeds every morning on my breakfast. Yummy.

Maybe soon the jar will be filled with more medicinal seeds ...

Wow, i thought that was a big jar of seeds till you said it was hemp seeds for consumption with your breakfast.

Sorry to hear you are losing your job, that sucks. As for venting your space that may be a problem. You could get a small intake fan and exhaust quite cheaply but with the exhaust you will need a carbon filter to eliminate smells if you are concerned about it. If money is REALLY tight then a couple of osciallating fans will do the job for circulating air. Smell wont be a big problem till you flip to 12/12 and once flowers start forming. You could perhaps install some battery operated air fresheners (the ones that spray every half an hour or use a mains plug in 1 that lasts for around 30-60 days). I got a problem with my balcony plants starting to smell. I am bringing them in at night and placing back out 12 hours later but my place does smell quite weedy so am combating with air freshener at night then again at morning. Main problem i have is my other half is inviting her parents over once a week for dinner which includes them being here during the afternoon. Cant leave the plants on the balcony in case they see them (her dad smokes and smokes on the balcony) so the only option is to bring them indoors for approx 4-5 hours till they leave again but then that is almost time to bring them in anyway for their night time of 12 hours darkness. Will this cause any problems with my plants? Hoping they wont go hermie on me. Also bringing them in does mean that the place will smell of weed while they are there but seen as they will be there when the smell develops they may not notice it so much.

With the end of one era begins another.

My working life has now changed beyond all recognition.
I have always had a job since I was 16 years old, most of those years I had 2 jobs at the same time. I will be 41 in January.

Now my job is to take care of my health, adapt to my new "me" brain, stay 1 step ahead of my diabetes, get stronger and have as clear and functional as possible brain so I can still play a part in looking after my family.

By far the hardest thing to deal with on my journey is not being the father that I used to be to my beautiful children.

I apologise for laying this out here to all of you amazing souls and gardeners out in 420 land, however I feel it must go somewhere.

I've allowed myself to invest in some decent equipment to help me to do this. In my eyes its the only way to grow clean medicinal plants to help my ECS to get some balance again.

All I need to do now is get a new distribution board installed and some power points and away we go.

I've been trying to do this in as cheap a way as possible but struggling too much to get things going.

I'm not confident in my ability to safely put together electrical components now, this way I will have 3 years warranty on my new Viparspectra V450 led light, 1m x 1m x 2m tent and I've still to buy a 4" carbon filter fan kit.

Plug n play must be my new way ..

My soil is ready to go.

Anybody know of a magic electrician elf they can send my way ..

You can tell the build up to xmas is starting in our house, can't help get into the excitement pouring out of the kids ..

This will be my present to myself.

A Guy once told me not to try and become the Guy I was before I got sick.. just make Yourself the best you that you can be right now.

.

If i was closer then i could have given you a hand installing electrical components for you. Not an electrician by any means but have plenty of power tools and am a dab hand at diy so would have figured something for you. Am sure you will get something sorted as we all do. Will send you a message on whatsapp and hopefully i can help where i can. All looking good though and hope your journey starts sooner rather than later.

Welcome aboard NaturalSpirit, things move pretty slowly for me here but we are so close now.

Glad to have your smiles and that's some great advice too ..

I have come to terms with the past "me", and now appreciate all of my experiences so far even more.

Now I'm intent on making the most of the new experiences to come.
I know that this grow is the key to living life as fully as I can.

Thanks as always Glasgrow for you're continued support. It really does mean so much to me.

I'm having to use my old phone just now as my lovely youngest decided she would smash my phone screen again and it's decided it doesn't want to play anymore lol.
I'll download the app again bud.

This is from SweetSue's class notes...thought it may help you. :high-five:

"I believe the cannabinoid I'm looking for for diabetes is THCV.

From the Herb Company's list of good chemovars for diabetic treatment:

Doug’s Varin

This sativa may be a tricky flower to find. While it is sometimes available in California, Doug’s Varin is a strain bred to contain high levels of THCV.

THCV is a mildly psychoactive cannabis strain with a host of promising health benefits. In a Efficacy and Safety of Cannabidiol and Tetrahydrocannabivarin on Glycemic and Lipid Parameters in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Parallel Group Pilot Study | Diabetes Care of 62 diabetic patients, scientists found that THCV treatment successfully improved fasting insulin levels and reduced blood glucose.

Doug’s Varin contains both THC and THCV. In fact, a test performed by Steep Hill Labs back in 2014 found that this bud contained about 19 percent THC and 15 percent THCV. That means this is one potent bud. Doug’s Varin is thought to have a zippy, energetic high that’s perfect for daytime consumption.

Black Beauty

Black Beauty is another rarity. However, based on the small amount of research available, this strain is a great match for patients with diabetes. At this time, this flower produces a 2:1 THC to THCV ratio. However, breeders hope to play up this strain’s ability to also produce decent amounts of CBD.

.............

With strong anti-inflammatory properties and the possible ability to improve insulin sensitivity, THCV and CBD are the two cannabinoids that have shown the most promise in diabetes."

I will definitely be putting them on my list to buy.

Wow, that black beauty is stunning. Can't wait to drop a few of those seeds.

Hi folks, I thought I need to give myself a kick up the arse to get writing and keep my brain ticking.
Things are slowing down cognitively and my ability to read, write & process information seems to be getting worse.

Cue the rocky music for my brain ...

So it's been a tough week but I prioritised that my medicine needs to be made.

Having been using infused cannabis coconut oil and olive oil now for 2 months I can never go back.

This is just the start of my experimentation with infused oils which has been learned from the amazing fellow learners and teachers here on 420 magazine.

Below is a step by step guide for myself to refer back to and hopefully this will be of benefit to someone out there:

* 3 grams of Hash (unknown strains or profiles) places inside a sealed jar containing 200g organic olive oil.

* 3 grams of Hash (unknown strains or profiles) places inside a sealed jar containing 200g organic cold pressed coconut oil.

* 2 grams of Hash (unknown strains or profiles) places inside a sealed jar containing 200g grape seed oil.

I have decide to run grape seed oil this time too as I have really great results from using the olive oil topically with peppermint and tea tree essential oils.

I would definitely suggest to those fine folks out there that have the oil to rub a small amount into the sole of your foot/feet.
This resulted in symptom relief from migraine, muscle pain, cognitive issues within minutes.

Working all oils/cannabis ratios in grams makes things a lot easier to work out for me and I'm familiar with this from making my own soaps.

Gently heat up and melt the coconut oil so all jars are starting off in liquid form.

- Seal the jars tightly and place into a stovetop boiler with water, sitting on top of jar lids to keep off the bottom of the pot.

420-magazine-mobile145221468.jpg

420-magazine-mobile1407985584.jpg

- shake the jars vigorously as frequently as I remember to.

- keep the boiling water level to the same height as the oil in the jars, it helps if you use 3 of the same sized jars ..

- shake jars vigorously each time you top up the water level with boiling water from the kettle so the temps stay nice and even.

- remove from the boiling water after 2hours 30mins

- allow to return to room temperature shaking the jars frequently, then refrigerate for 24 hours

420-magazine-mobile324787430.jpg

- preheat oven to 110 degrees Celsius, preheat the jars again in a stovetop water boiler, preheat rapeseed oil (canola) to 110 degrees Celsius in loaf tin.

Pre measure the amount of oil needed for the oil bath before preheat.

Fill to a level with the oil inside the jars, it's really important to use a large enough loaf tin that the oil is no more than 2/3rds full.
No scolding folks please be careful.

- decarbonise in the oil bath in the oven for 110 minutes or until no more tiny bubbles are seen.

Carefully give the jars a shake occasionally during this stage, being very careful to not get burned by the oil or the jars.

This batch ran to 2hours 15min for me as I was having a bit of a brain check out moment at the due removal time.

- remove & allow to return to room temp shaking frequently.

I will add the step of including liquid sunflower lethicine once I buy some.

- refrigerate for 24 hours shaking frequently.

- I have left the hash residue in the jars as I can only assume that continuous infusion will take place.

I don't mind the wee bits when I dose, usually 5ml of oil or teaspoon of coconut oil, 3 times a day and swish around my mouth until I have to swallow or when someone asks me a question .

Hope this is useful to anyone out there.

First doses of coconut oil have been doing the job for me today, tomorrow I will be medicating with the olive oil and the grape seed oil will be made into some topical balm and also for massage oil.

Love you all my 420 family .
