1st Hydro Grow

So.Weed!
Been lurking, following your journal for a few days now and love the fact that you're a "thinking mans" grower. You've been looking at every aspect from every angle before making informed decisions.
Can't wait to start a grow using some of the info iIve picked up from you those who have posted to opine.

"Jesus tap-dancing christ" I thought I was the only one in the world that uses that regularly, but I'm in the south too.

Cheers mate!

Thanks for the kind words Brother...were it not for the awsome volume of acurate info and people like Pan4Gold49 and TorturedSoul I would be up shit creek for sure.

LOL, I hear yeah. From your thread alone I have noted their names as my go-to 'in case of emergency' short-list.
Keep up the great growing and that means more than just the plants...
I'm in your fanclub!

Day 29

OK, this isn't really a problem...just seems unusual, so I'll put out the call for info. Over the last 24 hours my plants have grown vertically over 1 3/4". With the plants all in full bloom now, I had expected them to slow off on vertical growth, and until the last 24 hours they had. I have added no nutes or anything of that nature, but it really looks like someone slipped into the closet and hit 'em with a spike full of pot 'roids.

Anyhow, the plants are budding like crazy...new budsites are appearing almost hourly...giggity!!! Just curious about the vertical growth explosion.

Have a green day!!!:smokin2:

Practically hear those buds popping like popcorn, eh?
I don't think a sudden growth spurt in bloom is all that unusual. If I read correctly, you just started flowering these a few days ago? They may have tapped and unlocked some hidden reserve of grow nutes that were stored or could be a trait of the strain.
Either way you'll normally still get a good amount of size increase during flowering.

Sit back and enjoy the budz-a-poppin :slide:

No light leaks? Constant light schedules? Started flowering with mature plants? Sounds like your girls will have a 72.5 day total flowering time (if they have now stopped stretching).

These plants are White Dwarfs...an autoflowering variant of White Widow...I didn't start them flowering, they do it all on their own. The thing that suprised me the most was the growth, as an overall percentage of total plant height, was astounding... a 10% jump in height overnight. I did expect more vertical growth, just not such a sudden jump. Well this is my first go round with AFs in hydro...guess I shouldn't be suprised, as its all new to me...lol!

Whoops, I forgot that you're growing AFs. I guess the 40:60 rule doesn't apply then.

Hey, wait a minute. How long IS WD supposed to take? And how long out of that is before it actually starts flowering? Hmm...

Cool. If I forget to ask you and you remember, please shoot me a PM letting me know what the final length (days) of the stretch period ended up being, counting from the first day that you noticed a growth spurt (if you kept track of when it started) or just the last stretch day (if not).

Trying to figure out if there is any correlation to the known standard "stretch to total flowering length" of normal plants. So it would help to have both dates but I'll happily take what I can get.

Thanks in advance, SouthernWeed!

I've marked down your request in my notebook and will provide that info as soon as the plants stop stretching.

Hi SOuthernweed,
Looks like you got alot of your problems solved with your growing.. I have seen overnight growth spurts on my plants, It amazes me but I see a good growth after placing in flower room. I have had to raise the lights frequently to keep up sometimes. (a few have been a little toasted... but recovered well.)
As for HP growing, Its my favorite method, I like the control and the quality of my harvests. I use a flood and drain method and have had great success with it. Easy to clean, easy to maintain and not too many parts that can get messed up. They come with all sizes of reservoirs. I have had much beter luck with this than a system like yours. Just easier to maintain for me (decrepit).
I have a flood and drain with tomatoes with like varieties outdoors in the ground and the HP have taken off to the roof compared to the outdoor ones. This is only my comparison since I grow other plants outdoors.
I have changed from time to time my growing area to suit my needs. have nothing etched in stone so to speak.
I am anxious to see your grow and your results.. I learn new stuff everyday.

Day 30

Morning all. Things are looking good still. Plants grew vertically another 3/4" last night. Lots of new growth, but one plant may be trying to go back into veg. I'll keep a close eye on it, it is the plant that was the least developed, and had the fewest hairs/budsites. Not to worried about it at this point.

Had to move the plants out of the closet and back to the bathroom. For some reason or another, the temps in the closet had started to rise uncontrolably and I didn't want to heat stress my babies.

How 'bout some pics...

Well, that's about it for today. Anyone with any thoughts or opinions about a plant starting to flower and then going back to veg, lets hear it. I know it can happen, I just don't know how or why. Would a single day of minor heat stress be enough to cause this? The temps in the closet got up to 88...with a canopy temp around 94 this am. Like I said, I'm not really concerned with it, more curiousity than anything.

Sometimes a plant in flower will shoot up for a while before showing flowers. I have a couple of strains that do that.;)

Pan4

Hey thanks for the positive words Pan. I had had the thought with all the vertical growth the last couple of days that the bud formation just couldn't keep up. Anyhow, none of this would have been doable without the guidance you have provided.

On an unrelated note, I just placed an interim seed order...going to try out some of that SLH(greenhouse) you are growing along with a little Utopia Haze (Barneys). Your SLH looks so damn tasty, I just had to try a bit. And what can I say about that UH other than it may be the ultimate haze strain. Anyhow, I'm going to be studying your journal hard, just be ready for Haze questions.

Many thanks and MUCH respect to you!
