1st Grow: Blue Dream

Hey guys! I’ve never started a seed in a pot, always a peat pellet. The peatbpellet has allowed me to bury the seedling further up the stalk. Since I will be starting my next ones in a #1 pot, could I leave maybe 3” empty space at the top of the pot and add soil as the seedling gains height to accomplish the same thing?

That's what I did roughly. I had plan to have it the most deep possible. So I had make little hoes. What is great is also that you can make a hole and just put some coco in the bottom without compressing it. This will also help the seedling spread her roots during the first days as medium will be less compacted in the hole. I don't know if it s clear lol I hope so

...all fabric pots are not created equal...this is my 3rd year for some that I'm using...I just hose them down inside and out and use a stiff brush to clean off any roots that are still stuck to the pot...these ones would probably hold up to a machine wash...others that I have used were cheap and without handles and made of lightweight material...they got turfed...
...I only leave about an inch from the top...there is going to be compaction no matter if you're dunking or top watering...I just pull some soil from the sides to mound a spindly stem and then have room to top dress as well, if needed...
...Congrats on the nomination Magoo...:thumb::high-five:...cheerz...h00k...:rollit::passitleft:

Appreciate it h00k! I’m always humbled by this place! Gotta love it here!

You guys or gals that use fabric pots. Do you reuse them or trash them? If you reuse them, what method of cleaning them and making sure there are no nasties do you use?
I reuse mine. I wait until I have about 4 or 5 ready for washing/cleaning and I fill up a small trash can and just dunk the shit out of them and shish and swirl around for 5-10 minutes and then let them soak with some weight keeping them submerged (kill off any bugs hiding in the mesh) for an hour or two (or longer). From there I take and rinse in a clean 5 gallon bucket and then hang dry.

Its a bit of work and time so thats why I wait for several pots to do it.

You ever put any bleach or similar in the wash? I am seeing what looks like mold/staining/idk wtf on my tan pots and wondering if it is funk that would transfer into a new grow.

OK let me see if I have this straight. First you get a tent and a light a call yourself a first time grower, who yielded more on a first grow then some seasoned growers do on a regular basis.
Then you find some bag seed and throw it into the ground and grow this monster of a plant that has a cola the size of a horse's...well not his mane.
The you have a NL that you treat like crap, bend and pull her, and the next day it's like she never even knew you touched her.
And for the grand finale you make this sushi cob that looked so delicious and it was like second nature to you.

OK Mr.Magoo, all I can do is tip my hat. You have pulled off what only a few have ever dreamed of doing. When you get over this "first time grow" I only hope you do a little better than what I have seen so far.

:bravo:
That’s what I said...
:laugh::hmmmm:

I have thought about using some H2O2 in the rinse bucket, but have never done it. My pots seem pretty good after the wash processes. You have probably had your pots in worse conditions than mine, I don't get much RH over 75 except on rare occasions. You tend to hit a bit higher so you could have issues I don't encounter. I suppose if there is any doubt, throw some bleach in there.

Thanks Van and Blew. When I bought them I envisioned being a bale to use them again. But when I saw how funky they looked after pulling the roots I wasn’t so sure.

Mine stay very clean for the most part as I don't do any nutes. The most I run through mine is a little ACT. I could honestly probably reuse mine without doing anything to them, but I don't like to take chances. I throw them in a box for a while until I have a handful to wash. Only takes a little while to clean them so its a no brainer for me.

Its possible salt build up from nutrients. I got that on my smart pots from time to time.

I do basically the same as van stank but we got one of those big 2 basin sinks so I wash em in one move em to the other rinse em out while I empty the other. Chuck it back in and leave it to soak. If they need another scrub ill just repeat.

Yeah if you have a nice double sink.....you can do that and it would be a lot easier. They come out looking about 85% brand new. Still a few small little roots stuck in the fibers but nothing that will cause issues.

Dunno of its just me but they do seem less rigid after you've washed em I cant imagine they last that many washes?

What pots do you prefer hook?

The pots I like obviously if made of the same fabric in 20 or 30g would not work for anything. Never bought anything larger than 7.

I tried some square ones, they don't stay square.

...The ones I use are tan in color, off the "zon"...the name escapes me right now, but I'll check later...I use predominantly 7's, but also am running three 15's this go round...the only drawback is pots that size become stationary, cause my back says "nope, not gonna lift that"...I was gonna run six 15's next spring, but I may rethink that...we'll see...cheerz...h00k...:rollit::passitleft:
