Good morning Mr O

Garden looking schmickey doo bruv :)

I’m not sure how I feel about droughting. Sad plants give me anxiety and I’m not even joking. I do know how I feel about headaches tho. They suck ugly balls.

Highya SO,

I like Hashgirl's description - chonky! That's a great word to think of looking at your canopy! If they'll reduce migraines, you'll be in fat city! They do look good! Happy Smokin'

Watch a few, see if it fits what you may want. My plants seldom die from it, none have actually.

WATER AND MICROBES TO THE RESCUE, UPDATE

So on today's morning check I found my Kosher Kush pretty thirsty. I haven't gone and done the new math yet of figuring what the difference between 50 degrees and 50 % is in my head but when I saw my Kosher kush this stressed I gave up and watered her.

All this time I've seen it wrong! No wonder I thought this was easy! 50% is harder to figure. I gotta go back now! What does that even mean?!
Before drought, you measure the angle between the stem and the spot where the leaf attaches to the petiole starting below the leaf. For example a praying leaf might be 150° (not that this ever happens but if it were absolutely flush to the stem it would be 180°).

If your starting angle is 150° you would water again when it droops 50° of that

50% of 150 is 75, so you would water when the new leaf angle is 150-75 or 75°.

Had you gone with a 50 degree change you'd be watering too early at 100° (150-50).

Roger that!

ANOTHER VOLUNTEER FOR WATER LATER TODAY, UPDATE

ZKITTLEZ ON THE LEFT SIDE GETTING DROUGHT IS LOOKING READY sorry, for a saving drink. I'm adding aloe and microbes to get things moving again on the rescue watering.

Roger that!
So, essentially half way between where you started and hanging straight down (like when it's dead...)

I did the same calculation on my first attempt, but I could swear one of the things I read about it did say 50 degrees. But of course now I can't find it so maybe I just read it wrong...

I have a convoluted way to look at this one and it happens to be ok I think. I draw an imaginary line using the stem and main branch it comes from starting at the base and going to the green of the leaf. When that stem gets limp enough to flop over to 50 % I call it aprox 45 degrees which I call close enough to 50%. Yeah you may not want to visit my mind :laughtwo: 👽 :laughtwo: Yes kind of

The instructions always seemed to be a bit loose to me. Different leaves have different starting angles and don't all wilt at the same rate. I picked one close to the top with a really strong praying angle but a different leaf would probably have yielded different results.

Also, I wonder if indica vs sativa makes any difference, and some pheno's seem to grow with stronger stalks and leaves than others. The whole concept seems more art than science, but maybe that's just me.

It would be more art than science if it hadn't been done as a lab-based experiment. There's no reason not to do it as art if that's the way you want, but if we're going to reference the experiment's methods (50% change in LWA), I feel like it's only fair to reference it correctly.

Anyone interested in reading the paper, it's here:

True, but from what I recall, very limited sample size, variety of plants or media used, repeated results etc.

I'm not saying it's not valid or disputing the lab results, but it was far from a very robust or extensive test. I saw it more as proof of concept.

But, thanks for the link. I'll have another read as it's been a while. :thanks:

Well put. I'd say so too. I haven't been able to make a true science of the act yet. These plants are diverse, and some I can't even get myself to do it on, others I can't wait.

Krissi has found other studies and mentioned them over at her Drought pages I'm pretty sure.

Hi Bill, wet start and it's going to be a scorcher out. I'm ready. May be a harvest if I can see any amber in the tent later, and I think a rescue water will be in order for the last plant in drought. It's a good day! I hope you're well and at it too!
