Yankeetoker's 2nd Grow Attempt - 2016 - All Advice Welcome!

I put together one of your earlier photos and the most recent for comparison. It looks to me like they are greening up gradually. Yey! There is a slight difference in the lighting, but I still think they look a little better. :)

Thank you!

Pee Jay or anybody else...lol

The pots are feeling pretty light and I was considering giving the girls an enzyme tea (barley, kelp, aloe, agsil, bioag fulpower) using aerated water from my aquarium for their watering. Would this be ok 1 week after transplanting?

Otherwise they seem to be doing ok...no additional yellowing, new growth noted, no curling of leaves. Temps consistently hi 60s to mid 70s. RH mid 40s to low 50s.

Currently under a 125 watt CFL, will add additional 23 w cfl s to sides when I get a chance this week.

Any other suggestions?

Personally I would give them a little more time to adjust before "feeding" them. However, not having used those ingredients myself, I will leave that one to PeeJay or someone who is more familiar with it.

Glad to hear they are holding steady!

They are definitely looking better. I'm finding that doing less is actually more at times.

Who are you? This guy's evil twin?

Pee Jay or anybody else...lol

Canna is right. For now we want to assess the base soil. If the base is not good then adding those things isn't going to help and only confuse the issue. You should wait at least another week before giving them anything but water. There is plenty of food in that soil for babies.

It's only been a couple of days since you bottom watered and thoroughly soaked the pots. You shouldn't even think about watering them again for another 4-5 days. I know the pots feel lighter than they did right after watering but you want to let them go until they are practically as light as a pot full of dry soil.

RTK did something kind of fun on his first grow. He had a scale and used it to weigh a pot full of dry soil. I think it was a bathroom scale. Then he weighed the pot of soil after it was thoroughly soaked. He was able to weigh his plants and tell how close the soil was to being dry.

I totally understand your desire to do things to your plants, but right now less is totally more.

Been a few days since my last update...these are pics from this morning. As you can see one of the plants was "burned". The other plant is still not thriving, but is hanging on.

The burned plant had dust from peat moss come in contact with the leaves...I know, sloppy on my part...I am getting so discouraged by my results when I see all the beautiful plants that everyone else is growing...

Don't get discouraged YankeeToker! If you go back and look through the growth pictures you've posted you will see that those plants have come a long way.

I don't know what's going on with the "burned" leaves as you said, it looks more to me like a nutrient issue of some kind, but that's not my best area of knowledge. Let's see if anyone more familiar with that pops on.
Are you feeding them anything or just watering?

They certainly seem greener and wider to me, other than those two leaves. Others are growing in different grow mediums and environments, so it really isn't fair to yourself to compare yours to others. Stay positive and send good vibes to those lil' sweeties!

Thanks, Canna! I'm trying to stay positive, I just feel like I keep messing things up. I agree with you however, at least they are still alive!

So far I look at the mistakes from my first attempt and this attempt...soil was too hot, water pH unchecked, RH too low, temps too low..and I have addressed each issue.

I have been using a 125 watt CFL, but am about to switch it out to a 200 watt CFL (I hope the additional light helps).

Any other suggestions?

I don't see any problem with adding the light. The plants aren't stretching to reach it, so it must be doing okay with the height of the lights. :)

I'm wondering on the peat moss though, did you add some to the pots or something? You mentioned the leaves getting peat moss dust on them that you thought burned it.

Your soil blend is something understood by PeeJay and the others here, so I'll let them look and try to help you with that if needed. I love to eat lobster, but have never added it to my soil. (come on, laugh with me!)
Be sure you aren't over watering, I think that's been covered here recently. I think PeeJay is out of town for a couple days, he'll be back around as soon as he can.

You'll be fine, they'll be fine. Watching a plant daily is like waiting for water to boil....the water never seems to boil, and the plants never seem to look different. LOL It takes looking back to realize the difference.

Canna ...

When I made new soil (because my original soil was too hot), the peat moss dust got on the leaves during transplanting. I tried to get it off, but as you can see, I didn't do a good job...lol

I swapped out the light earlier and am interested in seeing any increase in growth. All plants honestly seem to be adding new growth, just not vertical. Pee Jay said burying the stems would slow them down a bit.

I have been waiting at least 5 days between watering and have been plants pH adjusted aerated water only. I have a dry pot filled with the same soil mix to use as a reference.

Lol about the lobster! That compost is excellent in my outdoor veggie garden though...lol

You are so right about watching a plant daily. ..I try to take pics and make comparisons that way....but yes, I never think they look different until I look at their pics

My recent seedling adventures.

Please don't give up hope - these girls get finicky at times - but then they suddenly surprise you :circle-of-love:

Your girls look better than Flower !

Keep hope

In case you are wondering - I still look at all 3 of those girls pictured and wonder why they aren't growing !

I know I'm a newbie, but I have seen other peeps do almost everything "wrong" in horrible conditions with poor lighting and end up with some beautiful plants and decent yields...

I have had great success with my veggie garden outdoors (growing from seed mind you), but this indoor growing I can't figure out.

Today, I believe your indoor garden is starting to work. I really do.

Let's give it some more time without trying anything new (Ok maybe the 200W CFL - but basically keep things the same).

Things could look a lot better in March.

After 12 hours under the new light, I think these girls look a little happier. Tomorrow is Day 6 since they were watered...will look to give them plain water (pH adjusted) tomorrow evening. Looking at the stems underneath, I even saw little sprouts emerging. Fingers crossed!

I see what you meant now on the burning. I thought you were talking about a new leaf problem, but this is just the original problem from earlier. Sorry for the confusion. :)
I agree with Radogast, I think you are well on your way there. That most recent pic looks good. They still have a bit of lime greenish tint to them, but I think it's getting better all the time. They are looking up at you saying "Thanks for caring Daddy!"
