Xlr8's Quest For The Best - 2012

Hey my friend, beautiful plants. You really want a good pic, use flash at night. It will really show off that sparkle of ripe crystals. I hate taking pc's under HPS. Well looking like sample day isn't far off. Buds are starting to look sick with crystal production. I hear ya about getting around to say high here. I get burnt on the PC alot so I go thru spurts of postings. Long as the plants are getting their food and water. Keep em Green

Hey buddy!

I like taking pics before/after lights on. My veg space is right next to the tent, so I open the tent and let the T5's and flouros provide some general "fill" light on the flowering plants, then the flash does the rest of the work. I can fix the white-balance and color correct pretty well under HPS, but there's always still a weird yellowish cast to the images that drives me nuts, too. The T5's and flourosr help bring out the true color with less shadows when combined with the flash. But, yes the flash lights up the trichomes for sure!

Sorry to hear in your journal you've been dealing with some pain right now. I know how that goes and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It can be quite a burden sometimes. Hang in there my friend, k? :)

AWESOME Photo Updates Dude! :)

Talk about frosty!

You're gonna need at least three pairs of trimming shears to get through those buds, and probably still a glass of alcohol to clean those three off half way through! ;)

Hey Goose!

Yup, they are some frosty mofos! :) The DR is getting so danged heavy with resin that I'll need to pull it soon just because the branches are bending under the weight of the buds right now. I realize this rates pretty low on the scale of problems to have, lol, but it's becoming an issue nonetheless. I'm also worried about all that resin and mold a bit... Fortunately my RH is about 35% right now, which all things considered, is pretty sweet for this stage of things and might keep me out of trouble even with the sticky mess in there at the moment.

Speaking of sticky mess... I reached in to tie up a branch and my arm was like I dipped it in a vat of syrup - true story! I needed about 1/4 bottle of alcohol just to un-mat the hair on my arms and keep things from sticking to my arms. At one point I had a paper towel and a fan leaf stuck right to my arm, lol. Even with the low RH, it makes me a little nervous, though.

Incredible update my friend!
beautiful photos as always.
I just had to bump those photos again!
Forgot how close we are in flowering.
I'll be doing my day 56 update on Tuesday.
Things are getting really close and frosty in my tent as well.
excited for us both!

Hey Vick!

I'm pretty darned excited too - we're getting close, huh!? No matter how many times I grow one of these plants, I'm just as excited at the end each time. Well, nothing is like the first time you smoke a bowl of your own home-grown, but I sure still get excited. :)

Oh, and :thankyou:

Fantastic , xlr8 !! You are doing a fantastic job, as always !!
The deadhead ripper looks killer !!!

Thanks Billy - I appreciate that my friend. Hope you are well! :thankyou:

I know the problem well! LOL! :laughtwo:

I HATE getting the resin stuck to the hair on my forearms! It is a BITCH to get off since the resin seems to BIND with your hair and it takes forever to get off! ;)

Not a bad problem to have of course!

On your sagging branches....

I have one excellent solution.... PIPE CLEANERS! I use them to tie the branches to stakes pushed into the pot and this really helps to keep those branches from breaking under their own weight.

Excellent idea Goose. I've been using garden twisty-ties that I can cut to length which works fine too. I like how soft pipe cleaners are though - I'll have to get some of those for sure.

Great tip! :high-five:

No problemo'! ;)

I always like to strive for the "99 Cent Store" approach to all this stuff. Pipe Cleaners work great for keeping your flowering plants from cracking and falling! Use those in combination with a few cheap Bamboo stakes you can buy at your local nursery.

I assume that you know that this branch breaking behavior is totally normal and part of the plant's reproductive process? Yep! The branches break to put the flower buds with their bounty of seeds closer to the ground, and the shock of the fall helps to dislodge seeds. :)

not to self...always check for a next page before respondin

Dude, that Deadhead Ripper looks incredible!!! :adore:

What's it smell like? Can you upload a scratch & sniff? :yummy:

Shoot - almost missed your post Kripster. :sorry:

Scratch and sniff you say? Wouldn't that be a great idea for a cannabis seed catalog?!? I could see someone like Greenhouse doing that. Would be a great way to shop for strains, right? "Ooh, now that's a nice lemon diesel" or "this one smells like that Thai bud I had in the 70s..."

Not sure how that would fly with mailings that smell like weed, though!

pipe cleaners and the like work great with a traditional garden canes, the combination builds a great exoskeleton

Haha, that happens to me often. Regardless, it's still a great idea - thank you for sharing it. The garden twisties work well too, but aren't as soft. Thanks again for sharing that (along with Goose). :thumb:

I think too many people would try smoking the catalogs!

Hi Ya Xlr8 ....Hope you are feeling better Man .... That Deadhead Ripper is a thing of beauty !! But you better be very careful, have someone standing by when you are trimming because you'll need someone to pull your fingers apart. Like the old song "Hot, Sweet and Sticky". I looked but couldn't find where it started but there was talk about pipe cleaners. If you were talking about tying branches I use surveyors tape ...nice and soft on plants and easy to tie and untie, no need to tie it tight.
