Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

imagine that! I have the same fan as you. Even thought about flipping it upside down. Now I think I will.

I'm not sure if that's the exact one I have, but it might be. I drilled 4 holes in the base, put zip ties through those holes to give me something to hook onto from the ceiling. It's worked well so far, and it takes up very little real estate vertically in the corner.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Nice work on the brownies! After I made that last round of hash using dry ice, I saved all the leftover plant material for cooking. I'll probably need quite a bit more than the recipe calls for, but I'll be happy if I get some decent medibles IN ADDITION to the great hash! :yummy:

As you may have noticed, I just got to the point where I could +REP you again a day or two ago, so I'm gonna have to owe you another!

Until then, will somebody please +REP X for me and I'll get ya back? :thankyou:

:thankyou: :thankyou:

With the recipe as I have it, one brownie square about 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" is enough to get me as medicated as I want for 4 hours or so constant. So, if you only have 1/2 the material, you might have to eat 2 brownies instead (or 3 perhaps). But hey - they really do taste fantastic, too, so you won't mind!

Cannabis flavor is very complimentary to the brownie flavor, hence it being such a classic. On flavor alone, I'd take one of my "magic" brownies over a regular brownie, 7 days a week...

I zip tied the base around the corner pole and then have it hanging from hemp twine tied to the top pole :)

I love this thread :)

:thanks: brotha! Really glad you do and that you're here. There's something pretty reassuring about having the person who created/invented your nutrient solution follow along. It's like having a pit crew - having you and all the other fantastically knowledgable people/friends around... How can I go wrong?

Hey there Xlr8 plants are lookin Great as always :thumb: :peace:

Thanks Papatater! :welcome:

Good to see you around again. Hope you are well!

Deadhead OG clone root explosion:

I just posted a picture of her yesterday, but I was pretty blown away when I walked into my grow room today. About 4 days ago, I transplanted a rooted Deadhead OG clone into straight coco coir. Coco coir is new to me, as I've been using it less than 2 months with one plant until this one. So, I'm still learning about what to expect with coir.

Okay, about 4 days ago, roots were barely poking through the Rapid Rooter plug on this Deadhead OG clone, and today I have roots poking through the bottom and sides near the bottom of her 1 gallon smartpot (they're supposed to do that -- air pruning).

The point is -- holy shit! If you look close in the picture you'll see a couple of root tips poking through - it's doing this sporadically all the way around, and on the bottom. In this pic, there's a root tip dead center near the bottom, and one up a little and to the right (again if you rotate her, this is happening all around):

Think she likes her combination coco coir, Blue Planet Nutrients?! I'm shocked with how aggressive her root growth has been, but how cool! I really like this coco coir, smart pot, BPN combo to say the least!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I love them smart pot's myself Xlr. You can reuse them too. Afew times as a matter afact. My old lady throws them in the washing machine. I guess I'm getting alittle lazy in my old age, and smart pots need alittle more attention with the watering. But they are the best thing a plant can have. Fimming your roots. They can get costy.
Just wanted to say hey and do a drive bye. Keepem Green

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I was lucky enough to get some seed from NoMercy straight from Cees himself. I grew alot of nice buds from his get, very happy when I see him around. I have learned alot from him over the years.

If your worried about bug issues coming from the soil then I will tell you a trick that works well with soil and hydro. Mosquito Dunks left in your waterbucket or reservoir kills fungus gnat larvae or just about any bug in larvae stage. HotShot peststrips helps control most pest problems for months.
I have fought many of bug problems over the years and had pest free problems for years at a time. Most pests are accidently introduced to a grow by the growers themselves. I won't even walk on grass before I enter my grow areas and shower if I was outdoors or working in the yard.
You really should try a dirt grow someday in the future, at least for the experience. What's more natural than dirt?
Poop! And turds work great with dirt or so I am told.

This post must have been prophetic. I think I have thrips. Damnit! I'm pretty sure I saw some shiny metal marks on a couple of leaves, and a couple of chunks out of a few leaves. Lights are out right now, but it was minor and I disregarded it at the time -- got me thinking today though about the shiny metal marks and what they meant, I don't think it's good...

So... are the dunks and hot shot pest strips the quickest most effective solution - I don't have those on hand, and can't get them for another day or so.

What I do have on hand for fighting bugs are Azamax and the SNS products SNS203, and SNS209. I also have those sticky yellow cards.

I know Mr Smith's advice is solid, I don't question it a bit - his skills and knowledge speak for themselves, loudly and positively so I know what he says will work. I guess what I am wondering if the things I have at hand will work as quickly/effectively, or do I need to get out and buy dunks/hot shot strips? I want these mother-f*ckers out of my grow room asap!!

I've managed to avoid having many bug issues in the past, so I appreciate insight from others. Oh, and the plants in question are in the Flo N Gro, and are about 9 days into bloom. I've got pre-flowers showing, but no real budding yet.

Sigh. I know I'll get this fixed, but I really hate pest issues.

Thanks TokerJoker. I have options on things to try, but I look forward to the feedback, too. I might not be able to go shopping for something different for a couple of days, so I'm hoping someone has experience/feedback on both the absolute quickest/safest/effective way to get rid of them asap, and whether what I already have is up to par with it somehow or not...

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I understand that for sure. You'll get it figured out in no time I'm sure. Somebody out there or in here has your answers you need. Stay positive and lifted.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

XLR8,

May I suggest when you go shopping for your cure, you also go buy some Home Defense. I buy the 1gal jug with sprayer. I spray the entryway 10 feet back and the floor of the room my tent is in once per month. Before my first grow I totally cleaned the room and sprayed it 3-4 times over a weeks period. I live in an area know for pest problems for growers and have been very fortunate to not have any.

I also never go into the room with street clothes on.

Best wishes on getting rid of them bastards.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I use home defense around the house perimeter inside and out. I also spray the perimeter of the grow room, inside and out. SNS products should help with thrips.
There is no fast way to kill all pests without using pythion sprays and that won't kill all the eggs. It takes 2 weeks to a month to truly kill pests weather its mites or even the simple fungus gnats. You need that amount of time to kill off the next generation of pests and the next gen that survives after that. That means a good spraying every 4 to 10 days for 2 weeks or more.
The dunks only attack egg and larvae in the medium and in the water. Thats stuff you can't spray but its where most of the next generation comes from. Any standing water should be removed along with any dead organic material. Gnats can breed in a thimble of water. The rest of the plant can be sprayed with neem oil, sns products or stuff made for fruit trees that you can get at the hardware store. Remember to spray plants again with water to reduce residue.
HotShot pest strips is more like a second defense, it can only control a pest issue but won't make it go away.
Wiping down the walls and floor of your grow area with water and bleach will help isolate your plants from the rest of the world from pests that like to roam about.
The sticky strips only kill flying mature pests and do nothing else but give you the satisfaction of seeing them dead and stuck on them. It does nothing for the next generation of pests thats going to dine on your garden.
Never dismiss a bug issue, small infestations can turn into big infestation in a very short time, you see them, then its time to start doing something about it. Gnats are not that bad but should be destroyed anyways. Any other pests should be dealt with immediately. If you find them in late flower, thats OH SHIT Mode and you have to make a decision to pull the plug early or try to finish them. the people who run perpetual always has the hardest time getting rid of pests, sometimes its best to stop, clean, then restart the grow game. I had a mite problem that would not go away. I did everything and the problem would come back a couple months later. I closed shop, threw away mums and restarted the grow operation. Never had a mite problem again. But I am alot more careful of pest issues and stay deligent on my preventive measures.
Good luck Xlr8, I am pretty sure you aint gonna let a lil bug become a big problem.

PS It might be a good ideal to treat the lawn with 3 to 4 month pest control that looks like lawn fertilizer. Reduces flea problems if you have pets.
