Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

w00t! Go, X, GO!

Thanks Jandre - Just finished sexing them today, and pulled the males. I love bloom phase, but now it'll be about surviving the stretch and keeping up with all that tying down... :)

:thanks:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Well, pulled the males today and they're all showing sex, though I'm not quite 100% on the Deadhead OG. Looks like I'll be flowering in the Flo N Gro:

(1) OG Kush
(1) Deadhead OG
(1) Jack the Ripper

Last time I flowered 4 plants, but it was pretty tight. I'm fine with 3, and with a separate space to veg a couple of plants, my turn around time will be quicker.

I took the male Jack the Ripper, and put it into a separate room - I'm going to see if I can harvest some pollen from him and selectively pollinate a branch on each of the girls in the tent to make a few seeds...

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

JTR = GREAT pollen donor! Or so I've heard, matches well with Sativa Dom's too...

I've heard that too, GT. I know Subcool uses a JTR male for a few other strains he has (Pandora's Box being one of them). He seems like a nice male, and was probably the healthiest happiest plant in the tent. Smells really strong and danky, and should hopefully make an alright daddy. We'll see! :)

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

High Everyone. :welcome:

My primary hydro system: I'm using a "bastardized" version of the Titan controls "Flo N Gro" system. Instead of buying the whole system, I bought the controller, a 6 site upgrade, and purchased/fabricated the rest of the pieces myself (pumps, reservoirs, fittings, etc.) Basically, it's similar to the CAP Ebb N Gro, but with 4 gallon square pots with square net pots inside of them. :yahoo:

Here's a link to the review I did on the Flo N Gro:

Titan Controls: Flo N Gro Review

floNgro.gif

Also, I'm experimenting with having a separate small veg space, and I have some cuttings I took when I topped the group of plants I have in the Flo N Gro.

The nutrients I use primarily are the 3-part nutrients from sponsor Blue Planet Nutrients. I encourage anyone on the fence about which nutrients to try to give them a shot. You can't beat the quality, value and service. :MoreNutes:

Blue Planet Nutrients (3 part formula):
blueplanet.jpg

For lighting, once seedlings have matured to veg stage and beyond, I run(2) 400w lights (MH for vegging, HPS for flowering). About 53 watts per sq ft, which should be pretty adequate. They are Hydrofarm hoods, and I am using digital ballasts to drive them: (1) Galaxy, and (1) Lumatek (which is adjustable down to 250w which might be nice for early veg...)

In my small veg space I have a 2' 4 bulb T5HO. Currently this is being used for the cuttings I took.

At the moment, I have 6 plants in the tent. Most are regular seeds, and I will not be flowering them all. They are:

(2) Jack the Ripper TGA Subcool
(2) Pandora's Box TGA Subcool
(1) Deadhead OG Cali Connection
(1) OG Kush Reserva Privada

Additionally, I have a Super Lemon Haze in a "Smart Pot" with Coco Coir.

I topped the plants in the tent about 8 days ago, and have the cuttings under the T5 to see if I can get them to root. I used Rapid Rooters, Clonex solution and Root Tech gel. Some of them were pretty small, but it looks like at least 4 of the 6 should make it barring something odd happening.

:thanks: for checking out my journal, that's not a "journal"!

Thanks for your posts, I've been reading up on a lot from this thread, your grows and all, and have and have enjoyed everything. I too, am running a modified Ebb & Flo system , mostly CAP products; started out as a means to an end trying to build a small/medium sized growing system to support myself and a few select patients. Operates on a non-profit basis. Being addictive by nature, I had to build the best system I could with the limited funds I had as well as my physical limitations. Like others, I was a very active man all my life and once my body went to $hit, I really had a hard time accepting my limitations. My Flowering room as well as separate Veg. room took me the better part of three months and $14K to build. I am addicted to growing deep, have been ever since I tossed a few seeds into a paper towel and they cracked and I grew some tiny plants in my parents basement back in 1966 or so. I sold my love (wife's too) motorcycle and all the tools and supplies from my shop (37 years worth) to do this set-up. This is literally the end of the line.
I come to this site as well as a few others for research; fastest source I know. Takes a lot of time to filter through all the information here, but hopefully, you guys will rub off on me and someday, I'll too, grow some great strains like several members here...
Oh, I like the idea of the Lumatek dim-able, great idea for hardening off clones...

:welcome: SfttailPaul - There is a lot of good info on this site, but it can be hard to "weed" through... ;) Sounds like you've got a heck of a set-up. Somebody here said once, "Marijuana might not be addictive, but growing it sure is!" Couldn't agree with that more. I wish I had more space - oh what fun I could have! :)

I struggle with coming to grips when it comes to my health every day. I spend too much time mourning what I've lost in terms of physical activity. I hope I get better - I need to let it go a bit though for now. Good luck, and sorry to hear about your health issues, too. Take care, and thanks for dropping by my thread - hope you stick around!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

hey X I have a ?

Got the tent down to 74 degrees so we are a go there. I'm betting I should keep the oscillating fans going at all times? Even during the dark periods? What about the cooling fan? I have that hooked to my carbon filter. Can I run that as well to keep the odors down or just have that on when the lights are going?

Thanks my friend

The circulation fan and the exhaust fan can be left on all the time. The fan keeps temps and humidity even throughout the tent, and keeps O2 and CO2 well mixed in the air and keeps "hot spots" from building (yes there's less danger at lights-off but still better safe than sorry), so I leave mine on all the time. Also, during lights-off, the exhaust fan can and will keep your RH from spiking, so I leave mine on all the time for that, as well.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Yeah, humidity spikes on lights off due to the cooling of the room. I think most PM starts at lights out.

First off, congrats on the temp improvement, 74 is near perfect in my opinion. That is huge! :welldone:

If you are cooling your lights with the same fan you use for your filter, yes, you'll want to leave it on all the time in my opinion. For the reasons that Jandre pointed out, and to keep smell low during lights out, too.

Thanks for helping Alaskan1 with that Jandre, I agree completely. :thumb:

I leave a household (oscillating) fan going in the tent just circulating air, too - and that stays on during lights out. It basically circulates the air by blowing right underneath and over the hoods. It's one of those long skinny fans - (tower fan?) that I have hung upside down from the support bars on the tent ceiling, in the corner of the tent - it seems near perfect for how I use it. Because it's long and skinny it doesn't get in the way, and I can raise and lower my hoods and the long skinny fan is still blowing under the lights, if that makes sense. It's got a pretty weak low setting and that's usually where I leave it - just enough to keep hot air from building up under the lights during lights on and provide a little circulation 24/7. Like this, kinda: Holmes 31" Oscillating Tower Fan

Thanks, I'll stick around for sure. Too much happens here on a daily basis. I look foreword to the e-mails.
I too, spent too much time mourning my loss, way too much. I was at the top of my game and bam, it was all over. I was now facing a forced retirement that didn't have any money to support me or my wife. I wasted almost 2 years on the "pity pot" and stayed drunk, barely smoked and was quite a useless excuse for a human being. Thank God, over the years, I managed to buy a bunch of useless stuff which I now sell off to pay the bills. Running out though. Anyway, once I stopped the alcohol and simply used my MMJ, my life quickly turned, not completely around, but so much better. It is a miracle.
I hope we can all gain collectively better, faster, stronger and able to do the things we must. The future lies in Sativa. I hear "Acapulco Gold" is back. Not sure if it is the Land Race or is just a name stolen. I intend to find out more. I had that once only. My best friend and I split a # when we were Freshmen in HS. I remember going to a party up in the 80th floor of the John Hancock Bldg. after toking that beast all the drive there (lived in Chicago) we literally and truthfully, laughed non stop, all the way up in the elevator with about a dozen people packed like pigs going to slaughter (thus the humor).
Later...

Heya STP -

I agree on Sativas. I'm continually amazed by how many people are in a similar situation to me. I was a 6 figure income earner, with dozens of people reporting to me. Now, I'm wittling away everything I've got to try to make ends meet because I'm in constant severe pain and activities, and sitting make it worse. Sitting. Argh. I'd like to try Acapulco Gold sometime, that sounds like a really great time you had with your buddy. Thanks for sharing that!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Hi everyone -

I spent a ton of time this morning making a new thread with my most up to date recipe for making Cannabis brownies (or anything using cannabis infused oil).

I had another similar thread, but it was outdated and had a lot of much to sort through to get to the improved part of the recipe. I tried hard to organize this well and make it easy to understand. I can tell you this much, if you follow my recipe, you'll make some really killer brownies!!!

Before creating the new thread, I followed each step myself, and spent yesterday floating in the clouds. If you've ever wanted to make pot brownies, this works fabulously. I used a 1/2 cup of finely ground sugar leaf shake (just over 1/2z when weighed) but you could use less or more... It's a great use of my trim leaves, and there is nothing like a near all-day high that you get from good edibles.

Anyway, the recipe can be found by clicking this link:

Thanks so much for the input! This was my guess and glad to hear I was correct.
I was more worried about odor control if they had to be turned off.

This post got left on the previous page pretty quickly, so I'm giving it a bump as I worked really friggin' hard on the brownie recipe I linked! ;)

imagine that! I have the same fan as you. Even thought about flipping it upside down. Now I think I will.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Nice work on the brownies! After I made that last round of hash using dry ice, I saved all the leftover plant material for cooking. I'll probably need quite a bit more than the recipe calls for, but I'll be happy if I get some decent medibles IN ADDITION to the great hash! :yummy:

As you may have noticed, I just got to the point where I could +REP you again a day or two ago, so I'm gonna have to owe you another!

Until then, will somebody please +REP X for me and I'll get ya back? :thankyou:
