Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Hi BChris - :welcome:

Yes, there is a lot of chat to "weed" through sometimes, but I'm glad you like the journals. Thank you so much for the kind words, and your service to our country. I know what you mean - I served as well and we were treated like heroes everywhere, (whether we'd really accomplished anything meaningful or not). It was nice, don't get me wrong (we never had to buy our own meal or drinks when we were out somewhere on liberty or leave) but it seemed misdirected when you consider everything the guys from Vietnam and other conflicts went through, only to get harassed or spit on, etc... Sigh.

I don't know if I'm much of a model for success. I feel like a failure, much of the time - but I try not to focus on those things. I am a big believer that positive mental activities breed positive physical results. So, I do my best to keep from spiraling down. I wish I could say I was better at it than I really am. I was pretty depressed for a while, but I'm finding that if I keep focusing on positive activities, pursuits and results, positive things happen... usually (lol). Thanks for the kind words, truely.

As far as Subcool, I've never grown cannabis using soil, so I can't speak to it to directly (I keep my moms in coco coir). However, some really good growers that grow in soil, love Subcool's super soil and have had much success with it. I am confident that if you are a decent gardener and understand how to structure the soil, Subcool's Super Soil will rock. If I remember right, though, quite a bit goes into that soil, and it's hard to make in small batches. I think it needs to "cook" for a while, too (allowing organic processes to occur before using it). So you need to be patient when putting it together (you can't make the soil in a weekend and start using it right away). Unlike, say, buying a good soil mix and using a fertilizer regime such as the BPN organic nutes (or any nutrient program) which allows you to get up and running right away. I know "Doc Bud"'s grown some nice plants with Subcool's soil and has a good understanding of it. I've seen really great looking plants grown in Super Soil, and also with BPN organic nutrients. Not being a soil grower, though, I'm a little out of my element here so maybe someone who's used one or the other can weigh in...

"High Brix" soil growing is the latest rage around here. "Icemud", "Vapedogg", and "Doc Bud" are all doing high brix grows right now (amongst others I'm sure). Basically, with High Brix soils, you don't really feed the plant, you feed the soil. Then the soil, feeds the plants. It's a commonly used method of growing for produce, now being applied to cannabis. Supposed to give you superior flavor, smell, quality and insanely healthy/vigorous plants.

Thanks for all the kind words, brother. I really appreciate it. :thanks:

Hey X,

Plants are looking great!!

The one thing I love about being military in this generation is that no matter how the public feels about the reason of the war, they show us a bunch of love. So that is always nice. I know I dont know you from Adam but I wouldn't guage your success/failure rate off of finances (especially since your problems stem from health issues). I think looking more towards the affect you have had on your family and community is more telling.. And you already know how the 420 community feels about you!! Just a thought if you live in a state where it is legal maybe you should look into becoming a care giver.. I would pay good money for the stuff I have seen

Sub cool is the man. I have done alot of research on him over the past few days and I am def impressed. The soil does need to cook for awhile, but I have a year in a half before I can grow so I am not to worried about time. I don't mean to sound like I am taking anything away from BPN. I love the results I have seen through grow journals and if I do ever go hydro I promise I will look to no one else but corey for my nutes

Thanks for pushing me towards doc buds journals. I will have to check him out

:peace:

Hey XL,

Have you ever grown Blue Himalaya Diesel from Short Stuff Seeds? If not, has anyone here on XL's thread grown it?

Kind regards

I haven't, but it sure sounds like it could be good! Are you going to journal your grow on here?

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Some of the healthiest dang plants around Brother X:bravo:
Sorry to hear you've got the pain in high gear again my man...I feel bad for askin all the questions lately!
Well, whatever you're doing, it's working...You still manage to maintain a great journal, make rounds in others' journals, and keep your grow looking top shelf. I'd rep you but I think I just did recently lol, happens a lot.

Hope you get to feelin better, my friend:Namaste:

Thanks brother! I'm happy they are happy again. I have been feeling pretty rough the last few days, so I appreciate the well wishes. Never feel bad for asking me anything. I am really glad if I've been helpful at all! :)

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

You may not think your a master.......but your allot farther along than most of us.
:thumb:

:thanks: my friend!! I owe you a ton for the many things I've learned from you and the great friendship. :)

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Looking bushy in there. I hope your pain subsides as your plants grow in an inversely proportional relationship.

Me too! The plants are doing their part but I'm dropping the ball... ;)

Hi Bchris -

You are right about judging success and failure, but sometimes it's all easier said than done. ;) I am only comfortable growing for myself at this point, but I really appreciate the compliment that went with that. :) Subcool does a great job of "giving back" and sharing his knowledge, alright. DocBud is good and knows his stuff especially when it comes to soils. Thanks again for the very kind words! I hope you start a journal when you start your grow. In a year and a half, you'll be so well prepared! :thumb:

Not to be argumentative here, but, BPN has a totally organic line for you dirt fellas. It's not just for hydro, y'know.

Here's a 420Mag staff review of the stuff.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

yup i have grown himalaya blue diesel auto from short stuff 4 so far i got 3 males 1 female i bred for more seed with the female now i have a few hundred seeds of pure hbd grow notes are its a vigorous healthy strain it was very frosty and dense it can go very colorful if it gets cool night time temps and you let it go longer than the breeder specifies, it has an incredible smell of blueberries if i closed my eyes during the trim i could have sworn i was smelling fresh baked blueberry muffins!! mine got bigger than the claim of 11-16 inches about 30 inches tall, right now it is by far my favorite smell, the smoke is a smooth easy comfy couch lock and is a great night time smoke for pain and insomnia, i give this potent med a 9 out of 10 for an indica type feeling ,,
i really like it and am looking forward to growing it again,:thumb:
hope this helps our brother in need of info

Hi Jandre -

Actually, I think he was/is deciding between the BPN organic nutrients vs. the Subcool Super Soil route. I think what he was saying is that he landed on trying the Super Soil for his soil grow, but if he ever did hydro he'd go with the BPN line.

One thing I'm going to postulate on though, is that I think of the two, the BPN organic nutrients would be the easiest to get good results with right away. I think there's a bit of an art to building good soils, and Super Soil is so amped up that you have little margin for error. From what I've gathered anyway.

My guess is that the organic nutrients from Blue Planet are going to be pretty straight forward to use and they'll get you up and running much quicker to boot, but I haven't used them personally. Plus, the customer service if something gets out of whack somehow? Priceless!

Both can be great routes for soil growing from what I've seen, though. But, take that with a grain of "salt" as I'm a hydro grower! :)

BID -

Thanks man! That's a great review of the strain and your experience with it, and I'm sure it'll help Naphtali a ton. I appreciate you doing that brother. +rep

Sounds :yummy: good enough that I'm going to throw it on my wish list for future seeds!

:thanks:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Just doing a drive by to say you are the greatest!! Thanks for your support X. I really like the way you explain things and help other people. You totally Rock X!!
:thanks:
You know I have done hydro and the dirt. The only problem I have with the organic nutes is the smell and maintenance. Any BPN or other companies hydro nutes will work in dirt and give as good of results or better and not have the smell of an outhouse in Tijuana. I understand that many people only like organic and that is great. But it does take a lot more skill as a grower and the smell is kind of strong. I am totally impressed with anyone that has a great organic grow with big yields. To me it is almost like an art to grow organic.

Kindest regards,

Awesome. Glad that helped, thought it was pretty cool that we had a good grower here like BID growing that strain. Sounds delicious!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Thanks again XL :D

I hate to be hijacking your thread here and there....but I thought I'd run another question by you...
I have a whole set of un-used Canna Aqua Vega, Aqua Flores, and Cannazym from a previous hydro grow.
I am trying soil this time...can I use these nutes in soil? I know it probably wouldn't be ideal, but what would the drawbacks be, instead of buying a whole new nute line for soil?
