Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Hey X i'm taking pics of my bud sites everyday to get an idea of if bud blood works. im seeing more hairs than yesterday but i think 2-3 more days and we'll be able to tell if it works for sure.

Cool! Do you have a way to compare it currently, or to same strains/phenos from previous grows? I'm glad you're taking a good look at it, and really appreciate your thoughts and feedback. :thankyou:

For me, it seemed like flower initiated quicker, but I had no control of same strain to compare it to. So, maybe it was the strains? Also, while I felt they initiated flower earlier, they were no further along at say... day 25 or 30 compared to previous grows. Left me feeling... undecided to date on Bud Blood. I'd hate to spill that stuff on any clothes or carpet!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

im not sure i know enough yet to entertain the idea, ill keep reading what i can, ive ordered a couple of grow books so ill learn what i can when they come, but the best way to learn is put it into practice, plus i can keep reading your journal and see how you get on, plenty of picks though, ao i can see the process and how it should look. i stuck mylar all around my grow and i must admit its a lot brighter, more light is been reflected and i recon its better than the flat white paint, just charging my fone up so i can post some pics of my plants and room

i only have pictures and info off the internet for the White Russian. ive seen little buds show as early as 12 days with out Bud Blood.

yea its not my own personal comparison but i remember it too 13 and 21 days on my last 2 plants so if i see buds withing 10 i'll assume it speeds things up a few dayy, im hoping for about 8 days though lol.

if this stuff doesnt work i will let ya know, im skeptical about this product but im hopeful i'll see some early buds off her. if not i'd say its not worth the 23 bucks i spent on it.

hows your ladies comin along over here bud?

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

is their a maxinum amount of time before polinating is to late, i mean is their any chance of cropping most of the plant and leaving a few less developed bud sites and polin them or is their a point that the pollen has to be used,

Donpaul.p -

You've asked some good questions, and I appreciate that you've been a bit more on point with your questions, and more succinct than some of your earlier posts - not ripping on you for your earlier posts, but I'm appreciative for your self censorship, brevity and staying on topic. It helps me keep things in my journal here more on focus with what's going on in my grow room and projects.

Like I said, you've had some good questions, too, and to show my support and appreciation I gave you reputation points - looks like it was enough that you now have a second green box below your name. :)

Thanks brother! :high-five:

Oh, and to give you some further reading on some of these things (I'm no expert on breeding cannabis) do a g*ogle search for this term:

All the Young Dudes: Cannabis Pollen Collection and Use

The breeder TGA Subcool talks about pollen collection.

You can also do a search for "DJ Short cannabis breeding", DJ Short is a very highly respected cannabis breeder, who has a lot of information out there, too. Much of what I know I get from reading up on their stuff. :)

I'm good with whatever opinions you are able to draw from your experience with it. I have a bunch I got for free, so I'll use it again if I think it helps me.

Oh, I also have a bunch of AN's Big Bud in powder form (also received for free). I just noticed that stuff is EXPENSIVE! I've been using Blue Planet's bloom booster, but I'd love to know if anyone thinks Big Bud could be beneficial in my grow, preferably without giving up on Corey's Liquid Blue, cuz I know that does well for me from experience.

Anyone know if the 2 could work together, or if there'd be any benefit to it? I got more curious when I saw how insanely expensive that Big Bud powder was at the hydro store.

if you have the poweder form of big bud then you got the steroid version of big bud. the powder is WAY better than the liquid according to every review i've read and every opinion i've heard. i've never experimented with coreys bug enhancer yet but i'd love to hear your opinion on it. i can help you with reviews and you can help me with reviews :high-five:

Honestly, I was very pleased with it my first and only grow with it before this. It was difficult to properly evaluate though, as it was also my first grow with my new tent, hydro system and more lamp power, too. But, combined with the rest of his 3 part nute line, the buds produced were really nicely sized and the flavor from them was superb. Prior to that I used Dutch Master nutrients, which I still think highly of, but I truthfully prefer the Blue Planet line and it's much more reasonably priced.

Can't beat the service either. Corey just answered questions for me over the weekend, right away. Dude really hustles to build his business and support his customers - he's fantastic to deal with.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

if i had more plants i'd do a side by side comparison of these products i have that i'm skeptical of. i wish i could run bud blood on 2 plants and no bud blood on another. then i'd reall have some answers for you. you should try the big bud on some plants and lay off the others. i'd be real interested in that kind of experiment..actually i really want to get an experiment going next grow. i think it be great if i could find comparison journals laying around with different brand nutes used.

who knows maybe one day i'll make it big in the growing world by making a book on my opinions and results with certain nutes side by side (better go get that idea copy righted) lol

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Heya Quix!

In this thread? I don't even remember talking about freezing/storing pollen specifically. I'm losing my mind and memory lately, though, so I'm sure you're right. DOH!

Hope you are well buddy! :high-five:

Ah hell! Stoner moment...Here's the link, I meant to include it in that post lol...Producing Feminized Seeds Using Colloidal Silver

I'd like to experiment more like that, but it'll have to wait. Tough to do with the Flo N Gro cuz they're all using the same reservoir. Maybe I'll do a drain to waste flower cycle sometime with Coco and do some comparisons... Hmm, that's something I could do eventually. Would give me the ability to make comparisons using similar clones from same plants in individual containers.

Wouldn't it be great to make a living that way?! :)

Oh, yes. I realized after the fact that you might have meant something like that - thanks for clarifying! :)

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Since there's been a lot of talk recently about the breeding experiment I'm doing (pollinated a single bud on each plant using a Jack the Ripper male), I took a few more pics of the buds that were seeded. In two days, they are looking so much more obviously seeded, it's ridiculous. Now, there is no question that they look much different than the other non-seeded buds.

I'm hesitantly optimistic with things now, as far as how this may have worked out with the selective pollination. The only buds that look seeded that I can find, are the ones that I purposely pollinated, and like I said they definitely look different and seeded now. Check out the pictures below, and you'll see what I mean - big difference from the pics just 3 days ago I think. None of the other buds (that I've found) look even close to these with the swollen calyx's. I'm noticing more resin on the seeded buds than the non seeded ones, which is interesting to me.
:blunt:

They're getting a bit frostier all the time - the OG Kush is a deliciously frosty plant already, and I'm getting pretty excited about this plant. The Deadhead is definitely the most aggressive vigorous plant, and has a few tops outstretching the others, but not to the point that I'm concerned. Jack the Ripper is developing a little bit slower than the others, but it's known to be a slow starter in flower.

Veg Space - now with cuttings in the humidity dome. It's working nicely since I added another shelf. I'm loving it so far, plants are too! About 72f, 48%RH in veg space. The top row, is the Chocolope seedling, Super Lemon Haze clone, and under the dome there is a couple of SLH cuttings, and a cutting from topping my Deadhead OG mom. The bottom row, is the Deadhead OG mom to be, SLH mom, and the Jack the Ripper future mom:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

looks amazing mate, cant wait to see what happens with the pollenated buds, its something i could try myself if i can still harvest the rest of the plant, would be good to build up my own seed stock and if i can cross certian strains that i like then who knows the possibilities are endless, i want to see how you get on with the seeds and how the rest of the plant turns out, i bought a new book today, not sure if i can say the title but its apperantly written by a big time grower called mr big, loads of great tips in the book, its about european cannabis cultivation, written in 2002, only had a quick flick through it but great read, gives me something to read when my insomnia kicks in and im awake all night, your plants look amazing and the grow method has worked out perfectly, i just want to see the end results and yields and how this seeding goes,

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

your're a DADDY! Congrats pappa!

Funny, you and I have the same temp/rh meter :)

I had those yoyo's to hang my lights and I hated them. Switched to ratchets. Whats your take on them?

Thanks A1! I have about a dozen different temp/hygrometers, always looking for the best one. My favorite one yet, and most versatile is probably the Caliber III, by Western Humidor. It's also small enough to stick in a jar of curing bud, for example. It's gives consistant readings to my bigger more expensive ones, and it's small enough to go anywhere. I've dropped it in the reservoir a couple of times, and after drying, it goes right back to working.

I switched to ratchets on my HID light fixtures but that left extra yoyos laying around that I put to use on my T5 fixture in my veg space. I DEFINITELY like the ratchet ones better. I saw your new ratchet ones, way nicer, huh?

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Looking good X. I don't recall do you have have strain names picked out?

Cool idea! Not really, at this point. I guess to really be a strain they'd need to be stabilized... But, we should have some fun name for the cross, huh? :)

For fun, I think of them so far as "OG Ripper" and "Deadhead Jack" (the third is just a Jack the Ripper x Jack the Ripper which probably doesn't need a name?)

I'm open to any other suggestions for (Deadhead OG x Jack the Ripper) and (OG Kush x Jack the Ripper) if anyone has them! I love thinking of fun names for stuff.

Thanks DPP - Congrats on the new book - great way to go when you're first getting started. Can help answer a lot of questions. I'm not familiar with that particular book, but I'm sure it'll help. Insomnia stinks! I've been struggling with that some myself.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

i feel ya mate, i hate having it, really messes your head up when you have not slept for a few days, really gets me down sometimes, the book is written by a grower who got nicked years ago and now lives in amsterdam, its got loads of usefull stuff in it and loads of pictures and diagrams, like making filters and even step by step guides on all different grow methods, plus gives you loads of links to internet security so im going to have a good read later, looks very interesting though cant wait, also cant wait to see how your grow goes and the seeding goes, your plants are looking so healthy as well,
