Woodsman's Northern Light #5 Grow

Wood...looking good my friend. Nice! Reading your earlier post reminded me of our first and best grow....many moons ago. Outdoor grow with some seeds from a college bud who was a fan of the bud. I grew the plant behind the hog pen outdoors and it was HUGE! Looked like a friggin christmas tree. We harvested right at two pounds of the finest green bud I have ever smoked (I am a little prejudiced). I didn't know jack shit about growing weed and quite frankly just lucked into this if the truth were known. If I could come close to that with my current grow I will be tickled to death. Sorry to ramble, just reminiscing.
Hey Hypo, great story, great memory! Thanks for sharing that one!
thanks for the info and ya im gonna step up the lights alittle but not much this grow has way more light than it needed so the next grow will call for alot more plant to light ratio to achive max yeild per lumin every things looking good and i wonder if every ones got a staring stool i know i just cant help but just stare at those bright ass lights glowing amongst the plants then i turn arround and i cant even see my cellphone or any thing else for that matter :peacetwo:

Our kitty hangs out on the stairs and I don't know how many times I've just about stepped on her after leaving the plants and the bright lights! Now I 'assume' that the cat is there! LOL

the milwaulkee ph600 is a cheapo used by many...it's used by GREAT growers as well (McBudz), so I don't mean to discount it, I just say it's cheap price-wise. Hanna's start at $70 and have a nice one for $110. From what I've heard, you never use the ones with the metal prongs that you shove into the dirt. You always get the "pens" or "meters" that you dip into the water of your nute solution in order to find out what the ph is for what you're feeding your plants, or to get an idea of the soil ph you test using the very first amount of run off water coming out the bottom of the container. The metal pronged soil testers aren't accurate, from what I have unanimously heard from every single source.

I've noticed you were also talking about PH and how it is rising after you feed your girls...this is natural. As you plant absorbs the nutes the ph rises. Different nutes are best absorbed in specific ranges (there is a chart somewhere here), so to keep battling ph in soil is senseless. PH your water before you add your nutes, then check the PH, it will drop because of the nutes, as they are absorbed the ph rises. So as you check your runoff, your PH will rise. Marijuana prefers a more acidic water, 6.3(I think) in soil and 5.8 in most hydro systems. Calcium/magnesium are absorbed in the lowest of the ranges, I think it's 5.8, again there is a chart here, somewhere.

great looking girls you got....lavendar
Howdy lavendar thanks for checking the girls out!
my goodness woodsman! look at all this foot traffic! glad to be part of it! always keepin an eye on the grow!
Hello HK nice to have ya here again. Whew! I'm busy here, that's for sure. Lovin every minute! I'll visit with ya soon (if I can get away from the wife and all you folks)LOL

I thought the Milwaukee tester was a good one. But of course I'm not an expert, that's for sure LOL. Yup, I've got one of those with the three metal prongs. Different reading now every time. The others you mentioned are out of reach at the moment. If I can get the simple test kit with the drops and chart, I'd be happy.

that is funny as hell that should be in a movie now get outta here and show your wife some love :thumb:
Watched her favorite (taped every day) soap opera with her (she likes it when I watch it with her). The things married guys do to make their wives happy!lol.

Great information Grower, my pH according to the sh*ty meter I got goes down after I feed or water! Not up! It's most likely not accurate or only sometimes, who knows. All I know is that I have had nothing but grief with my pH since I bought it! I've got so many things I need to purchase and no way to do it. :smokin2:

Damn woodsy owergrowth is imminent those girls are large and in charge haha great work man they are very healthy lookin

The battle lines are drawn, The tents are pitched, just waiting for the dawn. I will prevail!

I have enough trouble with one woman in the house. Now I've got three more to deal with!

Update - Flower Day 19

Well did a few things today including:

#1.) Big Girl went into the 5 gal container that I had used for the Mazar. All went well except for one small thing. I did not have enough FF Ocean Forest soil! I had to borrow some soil from the other two plants. happy frog or ocean forest is on my new list of 'things I must buy' and soon! No roots showing on any of the plants but still short about a gallon and a half of soil for the three plants.

#2.) Experimented today (prior to re-potting). I took three drinking glasses and filled each up with FFOF. In one I put bottled drinking water from Wally's. In the second cup I put some snow melt (bottled 3 gals today). In the third glass I put our well water that goes through the softener (just curious). The outcome is still a big question because I believe my pH meter is 'mentally challenged'. I got different readings on each glass with several attempts on each one! I won't even give you the results because they are all bull! This soil pH tester I have seems to work sometimes (maybe), but you have to 'polish' the three prongs or your figures will be skewed. I came out with various readings on all three test cases. They ranged from the low 6's to as low as a pH of 5. I would check the same one several times and get different results each time! In between each test I would vigorously clean the prongs. Still I persisted. I added molasses to one and a small dose of FFTB to another and so on and so on! Different readings every time. I really need to get the pH drops that Mountain suggested. Who knows if my previous readings with my grow were even correct? I doubt it now. The only thing that told me that there was a problem were the plants themselves and how they improved after adding the lime. There was definite improvement then. So a pH tester is still on the 'list of things I need' Whew, what a waste of time that experiment was. Only good it did was tell me that my tester is a piece of garbage!

OK now for some picks of the grow. The first one is for one of you that had asked me a few days ago to post a photo of my grow tent.

Big Girl just before I re-potted her to a 5 gal pot. You can see the green cups I used for my test.

Starting to get a nice level canopy going!

Thanks folks!

Hey Wood! The plants are looking great! :thumb:
That is the first time I have seen the whole tent, at least that I remember (there is something that I do every day that is supposed to affect short term memory, but I can't remember what it is ;) ). But seriously, very nice DIY tent, good job!!
:peace: Bro!!

Update - Flower Day 20

Short, but sweet! All three ladies looked nice and perky this morning. Had to draw down on some of the tops that want to get taller. Every thing is perfectly level now only #4 is taking it's time with bud formation. Big Girl is catching up to Fatleaf in that respect.

I will have to put off making any purchases this week. Hopefully next week I can squeeze something out of the pocket like soil, nutes or the pH drops.

Thanks for the compliment on the tent. I'll tell the tent what you said, it will make her day! What you can't really tell is that behind the tent the wall is slanted (as in 'A' frame). There is space behind the tent at floor level and that is where I keep my two -MH / HPS- 'homemade' ballast systems along with the timer. We have limited storage/closet space in the bedroom/loft so we have clothes baskets that can obscure the view, so to say. I had to move some away for the pic. The tent is in the back corner of the loft and used to be a storage area for 'stuff'. Another negative my wife has about my grow!

I'd bet if you treat the one like you treat the 3 things would work out! Growing teaches us many things.

I can't smoke the wife though! The only thing she get's me high on is 'blood pressure'. lol

Fu(k!n females man always gotta give us attitude haha at least they can give us somethin pretty to look at and occasionlly help relieve stress;)

Pretty to look at I understand, help with the stress, hmm, your not married right?
The goal has to be to get them high. Then they can see things as we do!

My plants and my wife have a symbiotic relationship. She raises my BP and the plants lower it! Let the circle be unbroken!

I see, so if you didn't have a wife, your blood pressure would be too low! Very good. Your wife helps the MJ balance the BP! LOL
