Woodsman's Northern Light #5 Grow

Anytime man, also thanks for the help with my light problem. I went to Home depot, and found 2 lamp fixture parts for $3, and I bought extension cords and cut the female end, and wired it to the fixture, and it works perfect!

Great job Jacob. You can never have enough of those CFL's!

yeah it's a catalyst that aids the tigerbloom and growbig so your plant can manipulate the nutes better. it seems like that'd be an easy thing to get naturally. worm castings or guano maybe? I dunno but I'll keep reading into it. I was just told bb is just a catalyst, the punch is in the growbig and tiger bloom...

Thanks for checking into it.
I wish I could go down to the bat cave and get some sh*t!LOL.

*Tell me, If I could only purchase one product to supplement my Tiger Bloom, what would it be, and, if the first choice was too $$$, what would be my second choice? Question is for anyone, answer at will!

:passitleft: Let's think about it

i looked up bat guano fertilizer and ebay popped up, I found some seabird guano $5 for 1 lb, and mexican bat guano for $5.95. hmm. it'd be sort of weird having shit mailed to you.

Canna pk 13/14

Good suggestion, thanks bud!

I''ve used bat guano years ago on my first ever indoor back in Cal. What does it do compared to lets say, big bloom. Same category of nutes?
I also get shit sent to me all the time ....I don't touch it and then I send it back!:ganjamon:

yeah in Jorge's Bible he keeps refering to it (bat guano) as nature's organic super bloom formula...Also, it is very hard to burn plants with organic ferts...so I guess earthworm castings mixed in the soil at first for veg, then start using bat guano later for bloom. I guess. I'd like to try it. I see it for sale sometimes so I know it's not super rare.

I'll have to price some of these items bat guano and big bloom (i think bb is about 15-16 $$) But there is also shipping for me to consider. I hate having to worry about $$. It should not be an issue. Like I mentioned before my wife keeps me in check for a reason. There is one garden shop about 1/2 hr away and I know she carries FF products.

Hey Woodsman, they might have guano at the garden shop - especially if they carry FF products. You want the right guano for the right plant phase. On my Sunleaves guano kit you use Peruvian Seagull guano for the 1st 3 weeks of 12/12, then Jamacian bat guano for the next 3 weeks (they call this period fruit and flower), finally Indonesian bat guano for the next 2 weeks, then 1 week plain water. All the guanos have different NPK's. They say guano is the best and it's certainly the cheapest. :rasta:

The best smoke I ever grew (back in Cal) was my first indoor grow ever and I used bat guano (no idea which one though). I need to visit that store. not only for nutes, but for a bag of FF Ocean Forest or some Happy Frog. Re-potted the Big Girl today to 5 gal and did not have quite enough soil! Stole some from the other two plants LOL. but need to top them all. No roots showing though.

Update - Flower Day 19

Well did a few things today including:

#1.) Big Girl went into the 5 gal container that I had used for the Mazar. All went well except for one small thing. I did not have enough FF Ocean Forest soil! I had to borrow some soil from the other two plants. happy frog or ocean forest is on my new list of 'things I must buy' and soon! No roots showing on any of the plants but still short about a gallon and a half of soil for the three plants.

#2.) Experimented today (prior to re-potting). I took three drinking glasses and filled each up with FFOF. In one I put bottled drinking water from Wally's. In the second cup I put some snow melt (bottled 3 gals today). In the third glass I put our well water that goes through the softener (just curious). The outcome is still a big question because I believe my pH meter is 'mentally challenged'. I got different readings on each glass with several attempts on each one! I won't even give you the results because they are all bull! This soil pH tester I have seems to work sometimes (maybe), but you have to 'polish' the three prongs or your figures will be skewed. I came out with various readings on all three test cases. They ranged from the low 6's to as low as a pH of 5. I would check the same one several times and get different results each time! In between each test I would vigorously clean the prongs. Still I persisted. I added molasses to one and a small dose of FFTB to another and so on and so on! Different readings every time. I really need to get the pH drops that Mountain suggested. Who knows if my previous readings with my grow were even correct? I doubt it now. The only thing that told me that there was a problem were the plants themselves and how they improved after adding the lime. There was definite improvement then. So a pH tester is still on the 'list of things I need' Whew, what a waste of time that experiment was. Only good it did was tell me that my tester is a piece of garbage!

OK now for some picks of the grow. The first one is for one of you that had asked me a few days ago to post a photo of my grow tent.

Starting to get a nice level canopy going!

Thanks folks!

gonna fill the box this time huh good idea im vegging some with the same intentions how long did you veg the big girl after further reading skoters grow i decided im gonna fill the box with lst'd collas then harvest in sections worst case i get just my 1x2 sqft packed with colas and hash out of the rest but i think ill be able to just harvest in sections and get the hole box worth and thanks for the pic of your box and is that your stairing stool in front of your box also wander ing if you have a pic of the big girl and her pot from the side with somthing to compare to just trying to picture how big your grow is :goodjob: on the even canapie

Nice marijuana tree you got there! That's a thick trunk for such a short plant.

Regarding your pH, the snow melt should be equivalent to distilled water, so I'd agree your meter must be off. Also, all the natural nutes like molasses, guano and seaweed bring the pH up high. Sorry if you knew all that already, someone probably didn't. ;)

My pH meter is a Milwaukee pH 600. And while I read a bunch of good reviews, I have to say it's a piece of shit. My tap water is runs about 8.5-9.0. If I calibrate the damn thing with distilled water, then stick it in tap water and then go right back to the distilled, it reads 8.5 and very slowly starts dropping back down towards 7.0, but never goes lower than 7.8. The exact same thing happens if I go the other way and put it in an acidic solution. So, I'm constantly having to calibrate it and and take multiple readings before it starts coming in the ball park. Just makes feeding 5 times as long as it should be.

My last feeding I was so damn sick of it, I "forgot" to test the pH and obviously feed the plants some good ole 9.0 pH guano tea. I was thinking this pH thing in soil is probably a bunch of bullshit anyway, since soil must have a huge buffering capacity and would take a really long time before the pH of the water/nutes would effect it. Now my plants are looking like they've got some problems developing. Not sure if it's a co-incidence though.

There was a recent grow by Oldskoool (sp?) and he used Miracle Grow soil, tap water, I think some shitty nutes and didn't check pH. He had gorgeous plants, LOL! Probably gnat infestation - can't remember. But I don't think I've seen a MG journal that didn't have a gnat problem. ;)

afgooey my friend, I'll try and answer your questions. I vegged for a month with big girl. A couple days less for some of the others.

Sounds like a plan with your grow. Good luck! Pack in as many lights as you can. Yes that is my 'staring stool' LOL great name! I hijacked it from my wife. She used to rest her feet on when at her desk. I got to get her a replacement! The space is too small for anything else and it is the perfect height to sit and veg with the girls. I'll get a pic of the planton the next photo update (next few days) maybe I'll pull it out and take a pic of it on the floor right in front of the tent and I'll put a coke can or something alongside it. Sound good? I'ts canopy right now is front to back a foot and a half, width is about a foot and height from the base of the plant is about 16 - 18 inches.
It's main stem is 'stair stepped' up at about and angle of 60 - 70 degrees with at least ten secondary tops at the canopy and a few smaller just under-canopy. If they can 'get up there' I'll leave them. If not.........the axe!

I'd have been set if I was cloning. I removed about a dozen nice branches clearing out the under-canopy foliage. I'm just not set up for cloning now. Maybe in the future as circumstances permit.

Wood...looking good my friend. Nice! Reading your earlier post reminded me of our first and best grow....many moons ago. Outdoor grow with some seeds from a college bud who was a fan of the bud. I grew the plant behind the hog pen outdoors and it was HUGE! Looked like a friggin christmas tree. We harvested right at two pounds of the finest green bud I have ever smoked (I am a little prejudiced). I didn't know jack shit about growing weed and quite frankly just lucked into this if the truth were known. If I could come close to that with my current grow I will be tickled to death. Sorry to ramble, just reminiscing.

thanks for the info and ya im gonna step up the lights alittle but not much this grow has way more light than it needed so the next grow will call for alot more plant to light ratio to achive max yeild per lumin every things looking good and i wonder if every ones got a staring stool i know i just cant help but just stare at those bright ass lights glowing amongst the plants then i turn arround and i cant even see my cellphone or any thing else for that matter :peacetwo:

so your meter is one of the better ones if I'm not mistaken? I never knew about pH until I came here. I always seemed to do alright..Just not the 'best ever stuff' though. Then with my last grow which looked great but turned out not too potent, I'm paranoid of it happening again. Therefore the pH meter came into play and now wishing I had some additional 'additives'. I've got the lime in there from the last feeding, so I'm supposed to be safe, right? But on my watering the other day, like you I was there for hours trying to get the pH up as close to neutral as possible. Added more lime although a very tiny amount. Pain in the ass!

Break time! Gonna spend some 'quality time' with the wife.
