Woodsman's Northern Light #5 Grow

Here is a Picture of some Northern Lights #5 I just grew.

I have no clue about the strain difference, but the plants in the pics above might be male. I also read that males show signs of sex first (not sure if I'm right or not). If that is true then hopefully the others will be girls ya! Just a theory.

Ya I also think they're males. Just checked this morning and really no change! The three plants that were not showing anything are still not. The two suspect males also haven't changed. I was all set to remove them if need be and quickly use their larger pots to place the two smaller (hopefully) females into. Wait some more.

:smokin:

When I switched them to 12/12 last week (it's 7 days now) they were in need of a nute feed. so instead of giving them only flower nutes (only 1/4 strength), I also gave them 1/4 strength veg nutes. They looked like a shot of Nitrogen would be beneficial as they had only been fed once before and were slightly pale.

Wondering if that has thrown the time table off a bit?:smokin:

I wouldn't think so, their time table should be based mostly on just the light cycle and their gentics. The nutrients are there to give them what they need during the cycles, and mixing them (provided you don't over fertilize with the mix) shouldn't change what they are trying to do.

:thumb::thanks:

Nirvanagypsy, those are some terrific looking plants! Now you got to fill us in on what, where and how! Grown indoor and if yes, what kind of lighting etc.?

I'd really be looking forward to a smoke report from you and also some other tidbits of info. For instance, in what condition were the trichs at harvest (ratio of amber to cloudy etc.)?

That leaves only one solution..... I'm an impatient father to be! I need to relax :surf: and chill out :Rasta:

Thanks buddy!

Thank you! I am new to 420 Mag & learning the ropes/ trying ta meet some new friends. Not sure on my way arround very well yet but ill get it figured out. Yes I grew them Indoors/Soil,under a 1000 watt HPS with 100% Fox Farm Nutrients & supplements & medium. I will put in a grow report etc as soon as I learn how lol.

Update: Day 5 All the plants have recovered! No more wilting leaves and the temp was at what looks to be a steady 82 deg. Humidity was low at 20, but was in the low 40's yesterday soon after watering.

Unable at this latest check to look for sexing but will investigate fully, later on. I'll also take and then post some photos.

:passitleft:
Do you have like a small humidifier ?? And when you checked on your plants, the morning after initial wilting, were they recooped then, or did you water them before they perked up ?? And by all means, keep the temp at about 80 or below. :surf:

Welcome to the site then and you'll get help by just asking or you can search out what you need on the site. We will all try to help ya out!

Back to your NL5 have you harvested the crop yet or is it 'live'. That's why I asked for a smoke report, or review as I thought it was done.:smokin:

Thank you MH, I'm hoping that tomorrow I open the tent and find them all perked up and pretty again! Needless to say, I don't think I'll be adding anymore lights!
Just catching up on your grow, woodsman !! I think you'll find that that exhaust fan will now permit you to add even more lights , if need be. What's the cfm on the fan ?? 200 cfm works great in my 4X4X8 tent. And, You better get working on a carbon filter, before the wife gets in your shit. Gonna start getting smelly soon !! You got them looking so fine bro. !! Don't worry, they'll be better tommorrow !! Did you water ?? :surf:

Quote by BreakPoint:

"Man this pic looks just like yours, on p.13 of Jorge's MJ Horticulture...
cannabis Afghanica has "...distinctive , broad, dark-green leaflets and leaves. Dense branching and short internodes, most often with long leaf stems..."
it also says 'hash plant' is a classic example of c. afghanica"

Thanks Break, I'll be checking those references out and I'll let you know if there is a match, Thanks!

Thanks Love1Fear I really appreciate the encouragement

Thanks Clowns for stopping in and for the nice words. My last grow with the Mazar, never got into the 80's at all. Of course I had only the 100w hps and later two 26w cfls. I think my 'high' temp is fine, it's my low temp that I would think is more of a concern at 62-63. That's what the house temp is upstairs at night.

Hey Super always nice to hear from you!

Thanks CadillacMike, please come by anytime!

About the sexing:
Really still nothing definite this morning, but I did not get an up and close look, later today I will be up there again with a fine tuned eyeball! I think that someone up there is in charge of confusing growers when it concerns the early detection of plant sex!

Plant ID:
Like you said there are tree ID books insect ID books, bird ID books etc etc....I know we have some of them. I grew up looking at the bird and tree books years and years ago and as a young kid, I would not look in the insect book (hated bugs)!. You know the 'pocket' guides or like the Audubon society bird books.

With all the knowledge out there among the breeders, growers, authors etc etc , why no ID book on Cannabis Identification!

COmmj, thanks for the good words. I like to liven things up sometimes as do many of us that visit. It makes for a more relaxing atmosphere. I have a great suspicion that after indulging, I am more apt to 'say'' things than when I am 'not'. The easy banter that goes on here sometimes and in other threads is almost like it is in person when you sit around with smoking buddies and bullsh*t . Can't be serious all the time, right!

The temps you have are strange in that your dark temps are warmer than your day temps. Are you on an opposite schedule (your lights are on at night time and off at daylight)?

If I had extra space in there, I would add a heater to the grow during my dark hours.

As far as a link in your signature to your grow check this out:How to Add Links to Signatures - 420 Magazine. Make sure you follow the directions to the 'T' and you will be alright. Remember that you will be able to review your signature before posting.

I just figured someone would've come up with an ID reference 'page', thread, or book by now!

I run my lights from 6 pm to 6 am and That would raise your nite time temps and lower your day temps. :surf:

Welcome to the thread Slowpuffer! Glad to have ya!:ganjamon:
They recouped the morning after their watering. With the addition of the little (high speed) 4 inch fan (no idea what the cfm is) the temps stabilized at 82 deg. I've had the temps as high as 84 but that's it.. No way I could add more lights if I want to keep the temp lower. I'm probably OK as far as lumens go. I think I mentioned the lumens back a few pages. It was about twice the lumens needed per ft. Hopefully the NL will not be too odorous. The strain is supposed to be one of the least 'stinky' of Cannabis. :smokin:

Great Idea but would interfere with my wifes sleep. The tent is pretty much sealed from any outside light, but the lights inside are projected out the back of the tent through the vents and slightly illuminate the wall right behind them. Hard to explain, but it happens. Deflected light.

Not sure what's worse. the wrath of my wife or the plants getting a little chilly! I don't know, when I grow outside, the low temps can get even into the low 50's and they do just fine.

I am hesitant about posting the following photos. I didn't want to draw your attention away from my earlier quest with the 'Mystery Plant'! Please don't forget about that, as these next pics are just trying to figure out if it's a male or not. That is not as important as my original mission above. In the end we have no control over the sex of our plants!

First photo is of my pride and joy, Plant #1. She is just a little over a month old (about 5 weeks) and six days since I went to 12/12. I have been encouraged by the fact that 'she' is not showing any sexual inclination whatsoever compared to plants #2 and #3 which are showing some 'suspicious' looking signs! My other two (the ones from the previous post above) are also not 'showing' and that is good also!

The following are five pics (3 of plant#3 and 2 of plant #2). They are the only plants that are showing signs. I think they're males. Here are some different views. What do you think?

Males? Let me know what you think.

I'll be waiting for all your suggestions and theories about the previous post and also this post.

:thanks: :smokin:
I say it's to early to tell. Do you have your camera set in the macro mode ??

The wife is giving me a hard time (what else is new) about spending so much money on distilled water! We have a well system and we don't even drink the sh*t!

My question, and I'll be doing a net search on it, Snow melt (we've got plent of snow) what is the pH of the stuff? I only have a soil tester. I may be looking around the house for all kinds of pots and pans, empty water jugs etc! Also rainwater pH? Anybody know off hand? I know it must vary by location (air quality etc.).

I just found this and it looks to me that if I were to use snowmelt, I'd have to be adjusting it....a lot! Easier with the distilled water i think.

The pH of snow can vary greatly (4.6 to 6.7 normally)
depending on where the air came from that it formed in.
If snow forms in relatively clean, unpolluted air during a
cold arctic or polar outbreak coming down from Canada, the
particulates on which the snow formed are likely to contain
little for acidifying pollutant particulates, resulting in
a higher pH than would result from snow formed in a cold
front that has originated in the southern part or the plains
of the USA.

A snow pH of 7.8 is unusually high, but is possible in very
clean air. The highest snow pH that I remember measuring
at our station here, west of Chicago, was 7.21, so you have bested
that by quite a bit

i don't know !! But rain water here is like 8.4, while my tap water is only 7.3. That's a great question , and since we got a fresh foot yesterday, i'll go check it !! That was after 18 inches the day before that !! Wow !! This snow checks 6.5 ph. I just wonder why it would be lower than the rainfall ?? :surf:
