Woodsman's Northern Light #5 Grow

Just made a tiny bit of hash, I mean a tiny bit! Smaller than a dime. Smoked less than an 1/8th of that in my bowl............man, I am ripped! Trying to get my wife to try, but she won't (fine, more for me). I had followed the directions from Roseman with a piece of pantyhose secured at the top of a mason jar as a shaker. Used a sandwich bag full of leaves from the mazar. Then added a couple small buds since there wasn't enough from the leaves. Did the whole process with cig pack cellophane, rolled it for like forever, and into the oven with a wet paper towel, and then repeated the rolling and the oven. I don't have a vise handy (locked up in the shed and snowbound) so I just rolled it some more. Came out paper thin so not 100 % solid, but whew! Awesome. smelled like good hash and tasted like good hash (I mean tasted, like chewed a little) just like I remember. Dried my mouth out completely.

Quite a lot of work for just a little, but worth it! I can see taking the leaves from one of my upcoming outdoor grows and making a more serious amount! If I have any of the Mazar buds left after the NL harvest, I may just convert it all to hash! This is the high I was looking for with my Mazar that wasn't quite there. My brain is working in fast motion, but the rest of my body doesn't respond to well! LOL. If we had some Pizza in the freezer (not) It would be gone real quick!:bong::thumb:

Great job Woodsman. It is a wonderful thing to smoke clean hash that you made yourself.

First time I made 'real' hash! I've smoked a lot of hash in my life and this was as good as the best. Well maybe not as good as some Nepalese or Afghani. Forgot which, but one of those had opium in it.

Hey, I'd share!

Since I'm new to the pH thing, just wondering about some things. Inserted into the soil after a watering or a feed the last few times and it reads between 6.7 and 6.8 on the meter. Is this a good pH level for veg? ..

I've got the meter that has Light, Moisture, Fertility and pH. It has three metal prongs that need to be cleaned very good before and after use. I don't know if it works real good in just water or run off as it seems to read about 6.9 -7.0

this chart is supposed to be read as start with nutes at the bottom of the range going in and let them drift to the top coming out:

Your runoff being 6.9-7 is ok but slightly high. Going in it should be around 6.3.

Hope it helps.

Did you take any pictures Woodsman? Or were you over eager to try it?
I have about half left, I'll get a macro-pic in later (before I finish it off)
Congrats on your first hash making Woodsman :cheertwo::cheertwo:

Thanks buddy!

Not Sure about it, but you mean to get the run off lower I need to water or feed with a lower pH? How? Distilled Water is supposed to be what, pH of 7. Then if i'm adding the emulsion, then what? Sorry I'm lost with this pH thing. I thought before that a pH of 6.7 or 6.8 is 'in the range' for soil (I'm sticking the meter in the ground as it says in the instructions - after soil is wet from water-feed) . Why do I need to check the run off?
have patience with me.

You don't need to check runoff but some people do as it gives you more information on what is happening.

When the nutrient/water solution goes into the soil it is supposed to be a lower ph. As the plant uses nutrients the ph of the soil or hydroponics solution drifts up.

Ph is adjusted with acids and bases. These are available from hydro stores as PH up and PH down made by many different manufacturers.

they're checking runoff with PH meters and pens, not the ones with the metal probes that go into dirt I don't think. The runoff water will be a good bit lower than what you check before it goes into the dirt.

I tell ya wood, you are not alone. The ph thing still kind of gets me as well. I was watering everything with 7.0 and trying to achieve 7.0 in my soil. Then I learned this was to high and 6.3-6.5 is better. So now I water everything at 6.5 the run off comes out at 6.3 but don't know how that works because I test my soil by taking two tablespoons of soil and 1 tbs of water mix it together and it comes out around 5.2. This worried me but "they" tell me that the run off is more important and not to worry about the soil so who knows. At this point I water at 6.5 and they grow. Seems the more I read the more confused I become about PH.

Hear To Learn, BreakPoint and Sungod (Sungod, yes confusing is an understatement!)
:thankyou:

First off thanks to all of you for your help with the pH thing. . ... I used to have less headaches and grew some great pot before I knew about this stuff.LOL

OK let me understand. I don't need to check run off unless something is wrong with plants? Like what for instance, an abnormality in the leaves? I won't be able to do this because I don't have a water tester. Now, I'm checking the soil (I guess I have a soil tester only) to make sure that the pH is in a certain safe range? Mine is safe now @ 6.7 - 6.8, correct? If it is not at the proper safe levels, then I'm to add either an acid to lower or an alkaline to raise the pH levels, correct? These have to be purchased? I've heard that you can get stuff around the house to use like lemon or lime (acids) to lower and baking soda or Epsom salts (alkaline) to raise, correct? This is a budget grow for a reason so I need to find stuff at home or in the grocery store.
