Woodsman Outdoors

She only has 2 and a half months to finish. Should be enough unless she is a late finisher.

If my girls don't finish on time before the frost sweeps in, I was just going to bring them into the house at night and put them back out in the morning. It will be a pain in the ass, but I'd rather finish them this year than pull early. Plus I've got my trusty Kawasaki MULE to do most of the work. :)

Hey Woodsman!

Those plants are freakin gorgeous!! It sure looks like a forest is growing on your balcony! :nicethread:

I don't think that bit of purple leaf is a sign of anything bad. I have seen it happen once or twice on new growth...They start purple and then fade to green as the leaf grows bigger.

Take care my friend :)

Hello Big C! Thanks for coming over to my place (seeing that I'm a turd for not visiting yours for a while)

You seem to be right on my friend. Most of the purple has turned green. Seems as they unfold into leaves they loose the color.
Hope everything is alright over on your end. I have to come over now!

I used to do that when I had one or two plants, but if I've got anymore late finishers, I'm up a creek! have to cover them or something and that could bring mold. Just hoping I get to the end of Oct without a freeze or frost. I could happen. Like a 60/40 chance it could freeze or frost. Mid Oct is a better chance in my favor so let's hope they all finish by then!

woodsman,
my bk's all finished in 8-9 wks....they are short term....with good size to them...i feed kushy kush to them, but first i just used the cha ching with the other f.f. ferts....i think the kushy makes them larger, but not that much and you got alot more sun than i got lights, so you should do well...L:blunt:

Eight to nine weeks should be good, I wonder if translated to an outdoor grow if it is the same time frame. I'll have to check on some of the seed Companies 'description pages' what the equivalent time frame is for indoor/outdoor. Thanks L!

Edited in: OK just checked on the Greenhouse Bubba Kush and they have it at 'Oct', I don't know if it's beginning or end of Oct. though. Big difference here. I'll investigate more.

Quick photo update

Very humid as usual so I had to dry the lens just to get the pics!

Group - From the left: three bagseeds, NL#5, Bubba Kush on railing in back center, Mazar and the Runt (regeneration) on the right.

I don't know if this is a better pic but here's another group shot

Crazy. I'm "green" with envy. That stuff is going to be smelling wild once they start budding up. Are you noticing any clusters of hairs popping out yet?

Hello my friend, bagseed #2 and one of the bagseed #1's are starting to 'bud up', won't be long for all of them to start.

Mini Update

Raining right now (good thing) so I shouldn't have to run to the spring for at least a day or two! :cheertwo:. Wish I had a normal water system here. I've got well water that runs through a water softener and then through the hose. Don't know why they routed it like that. Why would you want to have softened water (softened with salt) run to your hose? We can't even drink the stuff and don't even cook with it. Too much stuff floating around in it. We've been buying drinking water for years. Now we're getting our water from an artisan well about 8-10 miles away. Wouldn't be such a pain if I wasn't growing, because our drinking water supply of gallon and two and a half gallon jugs will last us a couple of weeks. It's the necessity to get water for the grow that is a real pain. The need watering or feeding every two days now or will go limp. I've got a wheel barrow outside that I use to collect rainwater, but it needs to pour heavily for that to be affective. I guess there is no way (cheaply) to filter out the salts from the well water. The well water when it is untreated, is very rusty and has the sulfur smell to it (rotten eggs). A water filter would seem to me to be not that cost effective since we would need to be constantly buying filters for it. Am I right?

Another problem that is developing is that the plants are getting to tall! Not something you would think is bad for an outdoor grow, but it is taxing on the wife now and I can see why! If I had just a few plants I could tie the tops down more horizontally, but with the six that I have it is just not feasible. Some may have to go down below to the yard. A few of the plants are now at my eye level (including the containers). They should continue to grow for a while yet, though they will eventually use their energy for budding only.

I have been using my wifes vegetables and flowers to help conceal the plants on one side of the deck, up on the railing. My neighbor's view to my deck is pretty much obscured by the woods, but they will thin out as we move towards Sept and Oct. That side concerns me the most because those neighbors look slightly down at our place while on the other side the neighbors are slightly below us and is thus easier to block their view. I may have to buy some 8x4 lattice and nail it up on the sides of the deck. This will help some. may be my best bet. I have never let my plants get this tall before and now in retrospect, I should have topped them all instead of leaving many of them to grow out naturally (used a little supercropping on some when they were younger and the mazar and the Runt are OK (bushes) the others look like 6 ft (give them a week) Christmas trees! Buying a few lattice sheets may be the best solution.

My water set up is similar to yours. My water is drinkable but it tastes pretty horrible. I've been using a PUR water filter and it actually does a bang up job. Your water might have more sediment so I don't know if it would work the same. The filter costs about 30 for the unit and 10 bucks per filter. Lasts about two months. I still water my girls with the tap, but I drink and cook with the filtered.

I know it sounds lame, but I've seen growers who stick plastic flowers and the like in the middle of their MJ plants. It makes them look slightly less weedish. You better get the lattice up before prying eyes catch a glimpse of those beauties.

I would imagine that if I were using a system like yours (filtered) to use on the plants, I would be buying filters all the time.

Your right, I have to do something sooner rather than later!. Great idea about the fake flowers, but I'd have to buy so many that I might as well just get the lattice.

I see, a little lattice to save your lettuce :yahoo:
That would be the thing to do. Say the wife is looking up at the plants now, Oh! My! This time I agree with her. Nervous time. :yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes:

The lattice should do the trick for you. Is there someway you can drive by your neighbors and see for yourself what they see. Might make you feel better......or worse! :thumb:

She does have to look 'up' at the plants, only the Runt and the Mazar (both bushes) are at her eye level!

You mean a daylight incursion? I don't think it's possible to go up there as someone is always home. Younger couple with about 3 or 4 little kids. Trellis is the way to go if I keep them on the deck. My wifes vegetable plants won't hide them much longer. My NL#5 (used to be the tiniest) in it's pot is as tall as I am now. Right to the top of my head :MoreNutes: and is not really starting to bud yet. Still growing. Pretty good for an indica dominant strain. Regular Christmas tree! One of the bagseeds is at the same height and the others are right behind. The other option I have is a mosquito net I have for camping. It's white though and not quite sure if it is large enough to be used and may look to conspicuous anyway!

There is another option, though I don't like it very much. That's to top the plants to the desired height. Ughhh!

What veggies is your wife growing, super mutant killer tomatoes? Must be some giant veggies to obscure 6 foot bushes.

Is it too late to supercrop? That worked pretty well for me, it could take a foot off their height and they'll recover in like 10 minutes. Just make sure the bend is pretty severe, almost like a break, or they'll straighten right back up.

It's always something popping up to rain on our growing parades I swear. I'm freaking about my one plant hitting about 4', so I can definitely relate.

Lame Alert...last yr. during the hot spell that took out our older dog, we put flowers in our plants, brought them outside, and just stuck more flowers in with them.....worked....this yr. we can not put outside as we have holes in the tree barriers where new power lines ect were put in, so you can see in thru the holes now....so they are cooking this yr....dang....been miserable here....the greenhousse ducks look like grape plants so are getting away with it for now....

woods, i super cropped some of mine that were growing up and over the lights in the tent....just bent them at right angles, tried not to break and it worked fine....also just bendd them over with wire or twine....tape to pots, or, use bush master....and i know that is probably not an option, the trellis is a great idea....would work.....what about a plastic, clear green house on the deck? not tottally sealed.....that would block alot and give you extra grow time and some colors in pots, flowers, would really work that way....you know peoples eyes usually see what they expect to see....if it has color, its flowers or vegs....

yeah, i have 6' tomatoes this yr....real giants....everything except the inside girls love this heat....better hot peppers than ever before this yr...L

OK! That takes care of that idea. I think super cropping or topping may do it. I know you really don't want top them, I wouldn't either. :smokin2:
You'll do what's best in the end. Just have to think it through.

A have some NL#5 now. Can't wait to get them in the ground. You would not be singing their praises if they were not really good. :thumb:

Wow Woodsman you are growin' a forest over there!

They look great! As for the neighbors etc. just imagine what those kids would be thinking if they were teens and got a glimpse of those babies!

Personally I'm with you and would try my best to avoid topping at all costs. If I had a vote I'd say lattice it up!

New guy here, just come to say high. Looks like you have your hands full. You never know about neighbors... they could not give a rat's ass what you do, but the risk is pretty high.

omm,
just had the op. to try some nl5, two diff kinds, and may i say, plant them beans first chance....great smoke...as woodsman says....great stuff...i'ld give them a solid nine....ez....great stealth smoke too hubby says....he's really into that, so would know....one we could sit in yard and smoke with out all the neighbors hanging out at the tree line sniffing....wouldnt be so bad, except they are the psalm singing speed dialing type....lol...it takes all kinds...L:peace: only reason i cant put them poor suffering plants outside also....too nosey....:yummy:

Howdy Blue! The only large plants she's got on the deck are her Japanese Eggplants and they're only about two three feet tall. What enable me to use them to block the 'grow' is that I put them along the top of the deck railing which encircles the deck. Problem now is that my plants are growing so tall that they are sticking up over the tops of her vegetables. She's got some red and green bell peppers, basil, thyme, mint, green beans chives and then there are a couple of pots with flowers and some cacti. Nothing is huge though. She's got some eggplant and green peppers down in the yard (in 10 gallon pots) that are larger, too large to put on the railings! She's already had a few blow right off the railing down to the yard below from occasional high wind gusts. My wife just said that if I took half of the plants and put them down in the yard, then she will feel better. So now I know where she stands, I may not have a choice in the matter! If I do put them down there, I guess I'd put the three bagseeds there and leave the two NL#5's, the Mazar and the little Bubba Kush on the deck. Of those that I'd leave on the deck, only the NL#5 from seed is tall while the Mazar and the Runt are more 'bush like'. She said that way we wouldn't have to spend money on the lattice. I've got my injured back now so I can't do anything right now, but I've got a mosquito net (camping stuff) that I may be able to use to conceal the plants, I'll have to dig it out of the shed and try it out. May have to cut it and make a frame from some 2 x 4's so it could be hung. I wonder if it is OK to just lay it on top of the plants without hanging it. Just like a blanket, it is very light of course and is 'breathable'. May or may not be even more conspicuous! It's white!

I had some 6 foot tomato plants last year. :D

Hello Odin!
We've tried growing tomatoes many times in the past, but they got too many diseases/blights (?).

L, I really feel for ya with all that heat your having lately, be careful, both of you!

I think if I supercropped them they'd just 'right' themselves. If I tied them down (always used to do this) they'd really be a problem for the wife as they'd take up the 'entire' deck! It would be real hard to 'get around' out there for her. No it's either the lattice or moving some down below I'm afraid.

The plants are still growing! As of today, a few of them are as tall as I am (about 6'). Subtract the height of the containers ( one foot + to a foot and a half) and I've got actual plant height of 5' now heading to 6' soon! That means that I will have plants standing at over 7' in their pots by the time they stop their vertical growth and start concentrating on budding.

Serves me right for being too greedy and not thinking ahead.

OK! That takes care of that idea. I think super cropping or topping may do it. I know you really don't want top them, I wouldn't either. :smokin2:

You can't go wrong with the NL#5's my friend! I did get one 'dud' though out of the last grow, Fatleaf, but the other two were (are) great!

Wow Woodsman you are growin' a forest over there!

I am lucky about that! I think the dad and his friends smoke (I've heard strange lung wringing gagging sounds from their place in the past)! The woods are thick and full of thorns between us so I'm OK till they start to thin out as Autumn approaches though.

New guy here, just come to say high. Looks like you have your hands full. You never know about neighbors... they could not give a rat's ass what you do, but the risk is pretty high.

Welcome G-Dog! I cannot let anyone know about this grow, First reason would be that it is not leg.... and the second is I need to harvest so I'll have something to smoke for the foreseeable future!

I don't know about stealth grow as far as physical size goes! Just read above! As far as smell, not too bad as they grow, but if your smokin some outside, I'd watch which way the winds blowin! My wife isn't smoking and she's always telling me that the house smells like smoke! She's always lighting those vanilla candles.

Woodsman,

Your plants are looking absolutely beautiful. I am sorry to hear that you may be having an issue with neighbors and security. I can relate as for the last month I have had some stupid teenagers trying to get into my shed. I have chased them off a few times but it sucks having to stay up until 4 a.m. each night just to make sure they don't come back.

Before my dad passed away a few months ago we were discussing how to grow in his backyard with stealth. The last option we discussed is a netting that is brown/green camo. This lets plenty of light through but looks like a sheet of camo material. This would work well for your situation I would think as you are in a woody area. From what I remember the netting is not that expensive but I was only able to find it online. Sorry but I can't remember the site at the moment. Anything white will naturally draw the eye as it reflects more wavelengths of light than any other color. Darker colors such as brown and green do not draw the eye as much unless they are against a backdrop that contrasts with those colors.

I hope all turns out well. Once again beautiful ladies! :thumb:
