Wheelo's 3rd run - Attack of the Holy Shoots

which one? i missed it.

Project Pat Ft. Three Six Mafia - Good Googly Moogly

That was off topic.... So I'll make up with something on topic....

Ummm shweet nutes recipe!

just finished the res change and feeding. . . trimmed fan leaves from the scrog, and did the final tuck. . . i will leave them alone now. . . if i can get to the hydro store in the next couple of days i will get some more plugs to do a final final cloning from the bottom crap before i perform the final under brush clearing.

i always have to read your posts like 3 or 4 times to start to understand them, but the time is always worth it. lol.

I've found that it helps to turn your head a bit sideways, lol.

thanks SS, can't wait for your comparison grow buddy. don't let me miss it, if you start it give me a heads up.

will do bro. It's gonna be a few days yet. I harvested one of my two remaining plants tonight and it's taking me way longer to trim than I anticipated, which is good ;).

can't wait to see that screen fill up with buddage :ganjamon:

how often are you watering/feeding these days?

trimming is always fun if you have 1/2 lb or less. lol, if you have more than that, it starts out fun and then becomes a chore. . . but this is one time when it pays to do your chores.

i'm still only feeding about once a week now because the super soil can really retain water, especially with 3.5 gal of it (and hydromix). . . i am suspecting I will have to shorten that to about every 5 days soon as they get thirstier, but I have a lot of dirt experience under my belt, so I'm not gonna force anything, I just read the plants and the dirt, and water as they ask me for it.

if your planning on staying with dirt, let me tell you, so far this super soil mix is as easy as a grow can get, and has produced very well to this point. its also cheaper than a regular nute schedule. . .stay tuned to see the finish, but if it finishes as well as it started, I will be singing it's praise from the top of my mountain (of buds).

hmm, i don't recognize that one. i'll have to get my friend Project Patty Dukes to burn me a copy.

I don't know if you'd like it? But it's hood gangsta rap.... And you'd have to a lot of slang to understand what they're talking about.... Either way it's a good song....

yeah lol i ment the scrog plants are getting their vitamins they do seem to get fuller every time

thanks dude, i attribute that to a healthy root system, the SS, and my excellent skillz at watering with plain water. damn, i'm so good at watering with plain water. lol. that scrog is sooo easy.

that wheel looks tasty!!!MMMMM...and look at those nice clones just waiting..are those the hs?

which ones? I have 20ish clones in the clone box, all HS. . . i have two little clones still just in plugs that i'm just leaving in the tent out of curiosity. still not much roots on those two, don't know if they will ever root fully, but they're gonna flower whether they like it or not. The two big clones in the 3" cubes are GWS clones. . . i need to figure out a better system than just moving them back and forth into the tent when the lights flip on, but i dont have any money right now, and there isn't much light in the clone box.

I don't know if you'd like it? But it's hood gangsta rap.... And you'd have to a lot of slang to understand what they're talking about.... Either way it's a good song....

my name is weezy f baby ol' bitches. wanna hear the funniest song ever, get the drake cd and listen to "I'm goin in". i laughed my ass of for a half hour.

i was born and raised in one of the poorest cities in america (population>100,000) so i know grimey. . . i've gone through periods hating hardcore rap because i know the "real" side of the shit they spit, and i don't like it, but the mindless beats always draw me back. lol.

but i prefer hip-hop to rap, like krs-1 said,

Hi Wheel,

Looks like both your grows are starting to fill in. I like the 'from then until now' shots on your ScrOG, also. Good job on your journal!

i just had to tuck again. . . trying to hone in on how much longer i should tuck. the entire stretch? i know that this strain stretches for 2 weeks. i think 420fied tucked pretty long. . . paging 420fied.

I see you're getting close to the next phase already but I'll chime in anyway. I generally try to keep the bud sites moving on to the next opening during the entire stretch if I can do so, especially if I'm not full up or the coverage isn't as even as I'd like it. The reason is I've found that plants respond pretty quickly once they've re-oriented themselves.

That means that once you let the leaders start growing up through the holes, on many strains the lower bud sites will slow down their upward growth spurt significantly as the auxins are once more redistributed in favor of the highest tips. So if you're still trying to get some of those secondary, tertiary, and quaternary branches up into the light to fill up your screen, keep tucking as long as possible to keep them oriented horizontally for lateral growth.

Also, by continuing to tuck, your canopy is a lot more even, and you can keep the light closer to your plants and make the most of your lumens. Even a few inches closer to your plants does make a difference.

That screen looks a bit too full but we shall see how it goes. How long has it been since you flipped to 12/12? I would guess by the pics that you are probably heading towards completing your 3rd week.

Hmmm...I'd say the underside was getting filled in a bit, but the screen itself could actually use a few more bud sites - if it's possible to get them up there.

I used to spend a bit of time on the usenet boards (and BBS before that in the early 80's) before the internet took off in the 90's. I was fortunate enough to catch some of the tail end of the adpc discussion ~'97-'98 between pH, swamp, NPKaye, and others when it (ScrOG) was first introduced online (as a further evolution to the original Trellis technique covered by High Times in the late 80's), before it got uploaded as a .zip file. (By the way, to all newbies out there and anyone else doing ScrOG, if you haven't seen it before, this is absolutely required reading):

pH's Multi-Shelf Garden Setup

CannaStats - The ScrOG Technique

CannaStats - Download Page

The technique hasn't really changed much since then.

--------------------

One thing that was hammered into us repeatedly by pH was that 'overgrowth was bad', and should be avoided at all costs. I learned that point so well that my first two attempts at this left the screen less than 80% filled by the end, for fear of ending up with an impenetrable jungle.

Yes, a lot of overgrowth is bad.

But, having some can be quite beneficial, too.

Since then, I've found one shouldn't be afraid of a little overgrowth if it'll help to fill up the screen. The ideal is to see if you can get at least one bud site for each 2" x 2" square of screen, of course. Sometimes the plants just won't cooperate and you'll double up in some squares and be empty in others, but that's life. It's a little bit art as well as science - which is why I love it, switched to ScrOG about ten years ago, and haven't gone back. (I love trees as much as the next person, I think they're beautiful - but you just can't beat ScrOG for consistently high yields, indoors. A perfect technique for any artificial lighting, and definitely for most LEDs or T5 HO, also. Who needs penetration to the base of your plants when you're only really concerned about the top 4-6" of your canopy, anyway?)

Some strains are definitely easier to work with than others, like NL x Big Bud. But if you have to sacrifice 1-2 sites in order to get another 5-8 up into the screen along the way - then do it. It'll be worth it if the net result (# of additional bud sites) is positive. You can always cull the runts underneath and reward the others - keep the air moving, get rid of fan leaves with marked yellowing (the ones that are obviously done for), and don't worry about it. (Though from time to time I've been known to keep some of those and add a GE Bright Stik-style warm white fluorescent light or two within/underneath the canopy facing upward; you'd be surprised how those popcorn buds underneath'll fill out a bit, as long as you're feeding the girls properly and you've got good lighting up top for the rest. Can easily pick up another 1/2 oz+ that way.)

I've never filled a screen perfectly yet, but using overgrowth judiciously, I've gotten pretty close. 'Good enough for government work', so to speak. :)

I've also found it's easier to get a more consistent screen using several smaller plants than a few larger ones that are vegged longer - so if you can grow with more plants, do it.

If you see the stretch slowing down and the screen's still not filled to your satisfaction, a few things you can do to help close the gaps are :

1) Raise the light up a bit and/or ditch the blue wavelengths in your lighting to induce additional stretching;
2) Give 'em some more veg nutes in lieu of upping the bloom ones; and
3) Just keep training horizontally, instead of vertically. Let 'em grow up only once the stretch is complete.

--------------------

Ok, that was definitely longer than I'd intended. Gotta stop doing that! Hope that helps you or anyone else reading this, Wheel. Add the usual disclaimer of 'That's what I've found, IMHO, your results may vary'...

Keep up the good work, your plants are looking mighty fine, WoF! ;)

Regards,

-TL

Wheel I do that same thing. Even though i have the space and lighting. I figure a 1k on some babies is better then anything else I could throw at them. So it turn I must say its a great job, once again.
And as a side note: its hardening them off, without even doing it intentionaly. Your helping youself in the process.

thanks lurk, thats a lot of good info. . . i'll check out those links when i get a second.

yeah, i'm no where near a one to one ratio of sites to squares. . . man that would be a beautiful sight. at this point in the cycle, I'm pretty much set to get what i get. unless i see some ridiculous stretch (which i doubt with this strain) in the next week, i think i'm done tucking.

7 plants for 9 ft^2 is almost the suggested 1 per sq. ft. and i did veg them significantly. it was what i had at the time

:thankyou: for your input, don't stop the long posts as long as they are good ones like this one. feel free to give your thoughts here at will my man.

oh yeah, and i can't mess with the nutes at all since they are all in there already. . . it is what it is, but it is nice so far. no complaints what so ever.

:yummy:

true, its not bad, and it works. . . but i'd like to add an LED to the clonebox to add full veg capabilities. that would be sweet, and i could just run the mega-garden in there again.

but low funds= do what you can and don't sweat the rest.

at the beginning of my journal i posted my modified version, but the original recipe comes from a breeder named subcool. it was a HT article a few months back.

I scaled this down quite a bit because i didn't want a whole garbage can full before i knew what i was getting into. . . I'm thinking of doing the full load sometime after this grow to just have it on an as needed basis to get a proper cycle going.

speaking of seed banks, i am going to add a couple strains to the soil grow. . . and i have devised a my final plan:

my boy gave me some of the seeds that he ordered. . . actually he let me pick a couple.

so i have 2 Great White Shark (won HTCC in 97) feminized seeds from greenhouse, and 3 Mazar-i-sharif regular seeds. I am going to save the mazar for later and I am going to start the GWS's today.

so I decided to go old school organic on the dirt side and have prepared a SUPER SOIL mix - to make my life easier to maintain two styles of grow.

I will put 1.5 gals of super soil on the bottom of each growbag, and top it off with another 1 - 1.5 gals of bcuzz Hydro-mix. then I will just water them with pure RO for their entire life. this will allow the root structure to grow down into the super soil, and will get needed water and air from the top half of the roots and all of the nutrition they need from the bottom half.

here is how i made my super soil.

P9050560.JPG

First i mixed up:

1.5 cu ft. bag of organic soil mix. lots of good stuff in here but the mycorrihzae is the most important part
6 lbs of organic worm castings
1 lbs steamed bone meal
1 lbs Bloom bat guano
1 lbs blood meal
1.25 oz Epson salts
1 oz sweet lime (dolomite)
1 oz open sesame
1 oz beastie bloomz
1 oz cha ching.

Then I added about a gallon of RO water to start activating the mycorrihzae. i will leave the dirt near the front window so that it will get a few hours of sunlight to help activate the mycorr.

in a few days i will be able to transplant my clones into the 1/2 and 1/2 grow bags. I will start to water them when the need it, and that will be that. take clones when i can, get the wheel going, and get this party started.

any questions or comments?

i don't know if its kosher to post a HT article here, I'll pm you a link bro.

i like it bro,

but its the classic hip-hop problem i have, i like the lyrics, but the beat doesn't do it for me. . . then you listen to 50 cent or lil wayne and the beats are sick but a lot of it's about killing and crack and disrespecting hoes n shit i don't really like. . . but you know, its like the movie scarface, i'd hate that guy in real life, but in fantasy he's a hero. . . I admit I like to think I'm Biggie sometimes, even though i wouldn't have probably liked him in real life if i knew him from the hood.
