Wheelo's 3rd run - Attack of the Holy Shoots

i think you should pre-soak any new RW before the roots have a chance to touch them.

you don't have to soak it long, a few seconds on each side is enough, just make sure it's saturated.
always prep the water to pH 5.5 for RW. I don't use it but maybe i should. . . but they have RW conditioner. might make it an easier medium to work with.

I was just complaining about RW the post right before yours. lol, it can be a bitch.

To be honest with you wheel i stopped using the conditioner a while back, and you've seen my results. I just make sure they stay clean as i can keep them.Good call on the soaking process. I love usng the rockwool as starters, never fails me.I dont use any thing but plain p.h'd water the whole time.
Well recently did the h20 and penetrator thing, worked out great but plain h20 works just fine.

I cant remember did you get the bushmasters? or any of the other humbolt products?

yeah, 8 months of use I am getting better with the RW. its can still be a bitch though.

like i said never used the conditioner. . . but i'm learning with out it so i prob won't even try it.

so, when i put in those 4 extra HS, i ran out of clothespins and just thought the tape would keep it in place.

bad move, at some point yesterday (before watering) it fell out and got jammed. 2nd time I did that since i bought the machine. . . some day i'll learn.

so anyways 3 of the lst'd HS's were looking bad. very bad. the RW was dryer than dry, and the damn plants looked like they hadn't been watered for months. branches all turned up against grav. but the dryness if the RW was the main problem

I quickly fixed the block, put it back in and stole a clothespin from somewhere else, an moved up the feeding an hour to get them in the drink immediately.

they look like they are coming back. we'll see the extent of the damage tonight or tomorrow.

I've read that RW isn't good for beginners.

I guess it's used widely because it was the first thing available for that purpose.

I've also read that some folks have a lot of trouble with peat pellets, but others love them.

Hope everything recovers and things get back on track.

We only see the occasional ladybug, so that's not an option, but that's very cool that you can bring some in to help out.

WoF: here are a few of my average root systems, keep in mind these were semi neglected.

Are yours similar?

no worries SS>

cmx,
glad your back my friend, no, i would say my roots are not that nice in general. some of mine have been similar, but not the majority.

I mean my pH stays good, my temps are good, my EC is fine, and i don't over or under water them usually.

I'm kinda pissed about the latest mess up because the two most affected plants don't look like they'll make a full recovery.

heres some mid-week pics

here are some clones rooted and hardening off for the wheel. . . you can see i moved the dehumidifier out of the tent.

heres one, i tried to show the height best i could with the telephoto.

how many plants are you using for mums..with that scrog...why dont you take all your needed clones from there? tahat what i do..have a few areas vegging and flowering at the same time soo you have large number of plants if you need to take cuts..with a good size scrog 80 clones should be a walk in the park...

yeah, its true, and was my original plan. I was going to grow out the dirt plants, and clone the hell out of them. The problem was i didnt want to wait that long. . . the scrog is probably finally at the pont where it could support that many clones, but it would leave them pretty bare. . . also the clones would be ready to roll out into 12/12 in 2-3 weeks and the scrog would take longer than that to recover.

being that they are all in the same tent and the lights are on the same timer, they will all go into flower together. I think at this point I'm going to give the clones in the fridge another week to produce some rootage, and then fill the wheel as much as I can, and go to flower. I need to see what the two plants that suffered the most drought damage will do. . . i might need to fill up that area with anything that clones.

so at the time i did what was logical, the dirty girls were set with 7 total, and i had more clones, so i put them in and started veg, In fact, i think I like this LST method better than the 80 tops method, but i'll reserve final opinion until after flower. I think this run will give me the proper plant count for a shorter LST veg in the future. I think 24 or 32 will be the right number. The advantage i think of this method will be more bud sites, and the fact that they will start the buds out by the perimeter instead of 6 inches of stem between the wheel and the first bud site. I think I would be aiming for 3 weeks of veg in this method eventually.

So at this point, I don't think there is anything else I can do. I have been out of bud for a few weeks already, and It's already getting old. lol. In order to get christmas bud, I need to go to flower by Nov. 1st at the very latest, and I'm not willing to push that back any further. Hopefully I can switch over a little earlier than that, I am planning on switching next week.

I wish I had a veg space, but my Apt is like 500 sq ft, and i just dont have the room. I want to veg out two of the GWS for next run In my cloneboxx, but I only have 45w T8 flouro in there, and It's not really enough. I was hoping to have the cash to get a small LED grow light to put in there, don't need much for veg, but I made a bad move and spent it on a chiller. (which I'm not even using yet.)

oh well, live and learn, I'll do something for the GWS next week when I switch to 12/12. I will veg them under 45w if I have to.

I'm watching your experiences with a lot of interest because I'm considering getting a VG next spring (If my first 2 grows go remotely well). One thing you're figuring out which anyone with a VG should be interested in is what's the optimal number of plants to install, and what's the best way to fill the grow area and still keep a healthy distance from the HIDs. Your experiences are going to save me and others a lot of time and grief figuring that stuff out.

thanks bro. hope i help you out.

are you taking cuttings from the base of your "dirty girls"? this is ideal not only for trimming reasons but they will produce roots quicker.

yeah, thats where i got the rest of the clones left in the clonebox. . . but these girls were mutants and so were the clones i took, so not the most desirable. The bottoms are pretty well trimmed up now, should be crusin from here on out as far as trim work goes.

I think I will lose at least one if not both of the wheel plants i shocked. that sucks big time, they were both big and healthy. but i' not gonna let this set me back, i will push forward.
