WheelOFortune's - first turn

Hey Wheel,

Doesn't look like it's done anything but left evidence that the wheel stopped for a while. Now if the ones that were at the top had doubled over on themselves, that might be different.

From what I understand the bends that has formed will not straighten, though new bends may compensate.

Was you garden knocked off kilter? There are holes in the tray where it sits on the stand where you can fix the tray to the stand with self tapping screws, though I would suggest using a punch to make a dimple before attempting to screwing the tray into place if you go there.

Cheers,
Maxx

thanks maxx, im almost done correcting them. a couple more degrees on the most bent ones.

I already screwed them in, i think i bumped the motor to cause it to drop the chain from the gear. Unfortunately i think i screwed it down 1/16 inch out of alignment. i will fix it after this turn. untill then i dont think it will come off the gear again. if it does i might reconsider waiting ttill the end of this round.

I would like to rig up some kind of censor that would alert me if the wheel stops though mine has never stopped turning, and mine has been turning for about 6 months.

Cheers,
Maxx

NP pan, if you need any advice as to go about doing a DIY project, when its time to start buying stuff and going about it, feel free to ask. I have the proper skills and knowledge to build one myself, and have given ALOT ALOT of thought on the best size, materials, etc. etc. for growing on a more commercial scale. My father and I are very interested to see how cheap and successful a large home made wheel could be growing something legit. lol. you could fit a hell of a lot of strawberries in a 6' or 8' wheel. If we can make it profitable to sell fruit or veggies, we might try to do it commercially.

startup cost would be too much to buy a omega carousel or to try to buy a bunch of commercial wheels. We're a good year away from trying it because we both have a lot going on right now.

thats why I bought one, to grow my secret goodie stash, and to figure out the flaws and advabtages of this system.

Hey Pan,

I hope you are going to do a thread for it.

Cheers,
Maxx

Don't worry guy's I will write a thread for that and were looking at an 8 footer. A buddy of mine works at a plastics fabrication plant he will be intrigued at the prospect even thou he quit smoking.:rasta:

i think i might try to make one cheap, so that means working with good old wood. heavy as hell though so ill need a decent drive motor. i could always gear it pretty good too.

also pan.
8' is HUGE by the way,
a standard ceiling is 10' high, that leaves very little room for resevoir, and flood/drain table. have you thought about this? maybe you have big cielings. 6' diameter and 1000w hps might be the best for our special plant, if thats what its for. plus that gives you some breathing room for fitting the flood tray taller than the max height of the water level in the resevoir. that in turn makes it easier to drain.

what do you think?

at 6' if you flower a sativa after only a couple days veg i doubt it will get 3' tall - 6 inches for a cool tube so 2'9". that extra foot will allow my friend maxx to grow SD genetics if he wishes without becoming mcguyver with chicken wire. although i love the creative solution. and i think a 1k bulb would be perfect fit.

i wish omega would supersize a volks to 6' and sell it for 3k. 50% more space, 50% more dollars. shipping would suck, but i would have bought one when i was looking. i bet they'd even make a larger profit margin anyways. volksgarden xl.

they should give me a job. id have them pumping out cheap green monsters custom taylored for mary jane!

My last grow was a sativa mix with 12/12 from day one under a 400w hps and still reached 40". However, I now have a clone of that same plant and have spent time bending and training and it is a foot tall. This was also a 12/12 cycle from day one.

A plant doesn't have to get much over a foot tall before it shades itself enough that its structure all stretches out.

I used to grow with water-cooled lamps and you could really get some crazy density in a small plant but after a certain size it wont maintain anywhere near the density it once was capable of.

Cheers,
Maxx

Someone had a sativa that in the vegging and months of flowering they trained "flat" all around their GR and it probably would have been twelve or fourteen feet tall if it had been possible to stretch the crazy thing out straight afterwards.

I'm guessing that they were kicking themselves daily after a while over that one lol.

Makes sense. Nature is pretty efficient in general and putting chlorophyll where there is not enough sunlight to carry on photosynthesis would be wasted.

In general I agree with maxx, going too big causes some problems with artificial light.

however, a 1k hps puts out 15k lumens at 3 feet away, a 400w hps only puts out 12.500 at 2 feet. i think a 400 could run a volks just fine.

I am very familiar with the inverse square law, i understand shading is a bitch.
but you could just trim the bottom branches to promote bigger tops.
im just saying a 6' would open up a bunch of options for more types of genetics that you can grow.

think about it, whats the diameter of a coliseum? i just looked it up, its 70"dia., 66" from site to site, its 88" tall, and it runs on 2 1k hps right? just turn that on its side, and rotate lol.

ps. maxx, thats why i keep asking you what the buds deep in the wheel look like, under the canopy. i didn't see if you ever responded to that question. sorry.
