What's In Jim's Grow Room?

High MJ,
Been gone too long.
Dang those are some superstar pics of the LB.
I see my UD 1 came out like a champ!
:passitleft:

Organic grown Ultra Dawg, Blue Dream, Pakistan Valley, Labyrinth and Fx.

That "Organic" part has nice ring to it. Everything is fed by the soil food web and teas. How natural is that!

The Ultra Dawg 3 male that's been stinking up my bed room for 2 weeks is now in the compost tumbler. His job is done and he gave me 6 little packages of pollen which is now in the freezer.

Ultra Dawg 3. He wanted me to know I made the right decision to move him out of the tent before he had his way with the girls.

Science lesson of the day.

I thought I'd document what a bud will look like after the pollination process is completed. The pistils begin to wither and begin to turn brown or orange as their job is done. They either die of age or die because they've captured the pollen.

Here's cut of the male's stem. Pith in the center.

Have a great day folks. Somewhere around the end of the month a small number of seeds should be available.
Thanks for the pics of pollination Jim, I’ve attempted to pollinate a lower bud branch on my girls so I’ll watch out for these changes :D

Thanks again Jim :thumb:

I need to do a better job at scheduling my medical appointments but now I'm up to date with dental, dermatology and optical. They tell me everything is ok so I'll stay on my herbal regimen.

Speaking of which. Yesterday I busted out a jar of White Widow from my first series of grows. This bud was jarred Jul 10 2016. It has aged well. Never underestimate the power of White Widow. I only grew one seed, re-vegged the plant and maybe a clone and it remains in the top tier of my favorites. I still have a healthy number of strains in my rotation and I may experiment a bit with blending some strains for smoking or vaping.

I'm sure I'm going to harvest something this week. The 2 likely candidates are Ultra Dawg and Labyrinth. UD has lots of amber trichs which are mostly cloudy with leaves fading. Lab is milky with only a few ambers. There is some leaf fading.

Fx 1 is beginning to cloud with some amber. She's just stinky. Fx 2 is just starting to cloud with 1 or 2 ambers per bud. Leaves fading on her.

I hope to clarify for any newbies. I will use cloudy and milky almost interchangeably. Leaf fading is when the fans turn yellow gradually and die usually starting at the bottom.

UD is in flower day 54 so she's probably right on track. Labyrinth is 45 days and breeder says 56 days. I pretty sure she'll be early. I just don't see her going another 10 days or so.

Fx girls are 44 and 45 days in bloom lights and they have never been run before. Who knows?

Today marks 30 days since all these girls were pollinated by the UD male. I've watched the pistils react and calyxes develop. Everything I've read in the past says 30 days should be long enough for the seed to mature and become viable. Here's some nicely swollen calyxes holding those valuable seeds.

Yep 4 weeks should be enough for them, but you can easily check by peeling one off and trying to crack it. There's nothing like checking this way.

In coasting mode here waiting for trichomes to finish. Ultra Dawg may not come down tomorrow as much I'd like to harvest something. It forces me to be somewhat patient.

Yesterday it went to the 80s F and I didn't turn the A/C on. Bloom tent went to 93 F and I have one bud on Fx 2 that I'm keeping my eye on. It could be just a little burned or it could be botrytis. It was the same bud that was pollinated and I tried to pull a calyx out to check for a seed. Calyx was squishy so I left it. I'm still hopeful for seeds from her but I could have failed to get it right on this pheno. Drats!

The last Fx girls to come into the bloom tent got a bubbled kelp tea with some EWC, bird poop and cal mag. They are just beautiful entering the third week. Fx 4 is huge and Fx 3 and 5 are very similar in structure.

Labyrinth continues to wear the milky trichomes but little amber. Fx 1 and Fx 2 are about the same. All will probably go another week. I took Lab into the sun streaming in this morning. She's going to be something fine I feel. All of the aromas are maturing a bit. One was really pine smelling but my memory fails as to which one.

Have a great day folks. I've already dropped the top and got me some wind therapy to go along this the Chemdawg high I'll enjoy for a while.

You like that pinene buzz, don't you Jim? :slide: My Carnival ultimately cures to smell like pine sol, so I understand the attraction. Lol!

Hope the ride was all you hoped for and more. :hugs:

Tent is looking for healthy and colorful. I hope you enjoyed your birthday!!!
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Been good so far and I'm being treated by a friend to lunch.

Thanks to all for the comments. I'll show you today the cold hard truth.

Team looks good. You don't notice the blemishes this way.

Then I can point you to the fading going on over here. Fx 1 on the left, Ultra Dawg on the right. To me this looks totally normal for an annual plant completing that final stretch of their lives.

Here's some close ups

Here's that bud that may have some botrytis or grey mold. I may just take this top off and quarantine it. Probably will a little later today.

Last night Labyrinth decided to hermie. I think she's 45 days in flower so it's not totally abnormal

Alright...I got to get ready for my lunch date. Haha

Happy B'day Jim....bummer about the problems. I'm sure you will get it all straightened out. :thumb:

I decided to do something with that funky bud. Using the trimmers I took one bite into the bud at about the 1 inch level and almost crapped my pants when I saw a big brown spot just under the cut. I went in about another inch and then realized that the big brown spot was a seed. Crap....anything for a little excitement around here.

Anyway...I guess the jury is still out what happened. It's quite possible that it was just the beginning of mold so all those sugars were trimmed away and disposed. I harvested about 25 nice seeds so I'm happy. I now have the opportunity to grow some Ultra Dawg x Fx 2.

I'm not sure I'm up to the task of attempting to be a breeder. Start these 10 seeds. Pick one or two that have good posture and grow them to maturity and see if you find a unicorn.

I tried to vape some of the green bud. My little portable is having a problem coming up to temperature but I got pretty high. It may work better with a little drying.

Seed covering still soft. One on the right shows some damage I did with my finger nails.

When I put these in with my seed stash I compared them to the recently received seeds. All of mine are more brown and quite larger than the commercial seed.

I have noticed that all the seeds I make that i deem 'keepers' look tons better than what I buy...but then again, Im not asking 10$+ per seed
