What's In Jim's Grow Room?

High Bob...I think the girls are enjoying the new lamp. I've got Fx 2 and Labyrinth under it right now and of course I'm sure they're also hit from the Mars lamp too. Was a little concerned that these two also took a while to develop pistils but it might be related to sexual maturity. It's a good product. Just wish I could afford more cobs.

Here's some shots from this morning.

I was about to add that you scored a great male there I think. I mean you'll have to wait for him to show more, but in terms of structure he looks as good as it gets... you're looking for female-looking one, that's kinda rule of a thumb. I also go with the usual tricks, check if stem is sticky, how he smells, do a Brix reading and want these flowers to get really abundant. You won't know what smell he's gonna pass onto its progeny though as this is written in X chromosome (the female part), so you'll only see it in F1 females... but there are couple of options here: bubblegum/fruity, pine/chemical or lemon/chemical.

Mornin' Jim!

I dig you have going on here. I have a handful of UDs that I will give a go later in the summer, so I am watching you very close to learn and I hope I can pull off some successful backcrosses. Anyways,

What made you chose the lankier male vs. the stalkier one? Did you already cull the stalky one?

Looking good :thumb::high-five::passitleft:

Well....I just chose the one whose clone was growing so well right after it got it's roots under him. He really was a sharp looker, an even grower and just seemed a bit perky. I only had the 2 males so it wasn't much more than a toss up. I'm blooming out UD 3 and kept the clone from UD 2 for use later if I want to. Of course I have the clone of the female so all possible crosses are still alive.

My biggest breeding dilemma comes with the Fx strain as I've yet to bloom a male. Fx 2 is the sativa leaning pheno and I'd just like to back cross that one. I have 3 more of the Fx strain that are still in the veg tent and I haven't even looked for pre-flowers. All are cloned so their time will come.

Of course I've tossed some Blue Dream pollen from the freezer on one of the Pakistan Valley girls. I haven't looked at those buds recently to see if seeds are developing but I'm hopeful. If the pollen worked after thawing she'll need about 25 more days which puts me in the middle of the harvest window.

No chores to do in the tents today. I just sat there for a couple of hours simply admiring the beauty. Fx 2 looks so much like a photo I remember in that other magazine from years ago. I don't remember growing one with this type of structure. We've had several beautiful days here on the US east coast with some temperatures near 80 F. I've had to turn on the air conditioner and there are forsythia, quince and daffodils blooming. It seems a bit early for me but I'm not in charge of that stuff.

Some time during this next week he should open and be ready to be used. It's scary how much trouble he could cause if he was in the tent right now.

I can only describe the male as stinky. Then again, my sense of smell is lacking.

That's all I have for now folks. Time for my shower then some other things.

Wow that's a nice looking male there.. he's a well a sorta keeper.

How ya going to manage all that pollen???

The flower room looks GREAT too .... just cruising along. Lucky U with the weather. It's been high 30s to low 40s and rain for the last 5 days... we live where its grey... until it's hot n humid! Oye...

 I'm finally learning how to quote someone's message again. I'm a stoner slow learner today.

I have some thick white poster board. Just cut it down the center to half way and slide it under the plant just above the pot with that slit on either side of the main stem. Some of the pollen will eventually fall and I hope to be at least attentive enough to notice it. Then I can take a small square of wax or parchment paper to selectively collect a bit. I use a craft paint brush for pollination.

I'll save any excess with rice in carefully marked packages in the freezer. I'm testing some one year old Blue Dream pollen right now to see if frozen pollen works.

We have been lucky with the weather. Bradford pears and tulip magnolias are blooming.

garden is looking good jim you have the magic going my friend,a question how tall was ud #1 when you did the flip i would like to end up with about 3ft. of plant trying to get an idea of when to flip have a good one man!
High Sticky. I didn't measure her but I'm going to guess she's added 5 to 6 inches since going into 12/12. I'll go back and look at some old photos. Here's the deal. I measure from floor. ~7 inches of soil under her so actual plant height would be 18 inches...so yeah...she was probably only a 12 inch plant going into flower.

I note the awful lack of patience in my zeal to get them into flower.

Patience grasshoppers.... bigger plants bigger yields!
Yeah Bob...one would think I would know better than put them in flower early. Your recent harvests are prime examples of bigger yields. Oh well, rest assured that I'll be satisfied with what I get. The great thing about this grow is that I get do-overs on every pheno and I'm really on a search to find something similar to the Chemdawg that I did not clone. How many of us regret not taking a clone? o_O

So much for regrets. I almost bought some more of the Chemdawg the other day but fouled the order up thinking I could easily do a bank transfer....but no. I ending up sending an email to cancel the thing.

I didn't think the crew needed any water yesterday but I peeked in just before lights out and the bloom tent was near 93 F and Ultra Dawg looked weak in the knees. In any event, I have all 8 of the girls well watered this morning and hope I'll be able to water them all on the same day going forward. Outside temperatures should moderate a little today as we have rain moving in and cooler weather behind that.

The UD male is really stinking up my bed room so I really hope he'll bust a nut soon. :slide:

Also took lots of fun pictures today. I'm not sure I can identify all of the bud pictures so I'll just photo dump them without much comment. The early ones will either be the Pakistan Valley or Blue Dream now beginning to frost up a bit on flower day 37. They're bulking up nicely but these 2 gallon softies aren't going to allow them to be ball bat size. Pistils are still pushing out and we have some fading to a beautiful orange. They're about 20 days or so to completion and looking pretty good to me.

Chemdawg was on the menu this morning followed by a bowl of Panama. That was really different and a pretty wild high for quite a while there.

Pakistan Valley and Blue Dream girls on flower day 38. Fans are drying and falling off so about 3 weeks to finish.

These next three pics are of the polinated buds of Pakistan Valley with the frozen Blue Dream pollen. I thought maybe I could blow them up and see swollen calyxes but I couldn't tell if the pollen worked other than the pistils shrank early on.

Here's the paper board barrier to catch the pollen. Where there's a will there's a way.

Have a great day folks. Going to try once more to catch up of everyone's grows.

I've only been here a short while, and I've had to learn two forums (old and new). My brain hurts. o_O

But it's totally worth it BRUH!!!!

Please pardon the intrusion. :thanks:

Since many of you stay in the grow room with blinders on, we have to spread the word somehow.

Good morning Magic Man. :kisstwo: I can't view most of your posted photos on this page. I think it's the cameras that are making it more challenging. My pictures from the iPhone can't be nearly as detailed as what you're taking.

I tracked them down the hard way, and it was so worth the effort. This new platform made your pictures look even better. I love a tent full of flowers with red hairs. :slide: One of these days I'm gonna catch up with med threads and dip my toe into genetic manipulation. You're on a real roll here, aren't you? Lol! By the time I'm ready you'll be able to hold my hand all the way through.

Don't think I won't come looking for you. Thanks for the delightful romp through your garden.
