What's In Jim's Grow Room?

I started an AACT on Friday, added the air brewer and the tea was ready to use on Christmas morning before I left to go to Wilmington, NC to visit friends. What a reaction the plants have to a renewed biology of the rhizosphere. Leaves were up and acting prayerful for clones and older seedling. Ultra Dawg #1 and Devils Carnival were impressive to me. I just wish I could save this stuff long term but I'm fairly sure it can't be done without continuing to oxygenate the tea. I have 2 gallons getting that treatment with air stones and I'll use the remaining amount in my soil bin.

Driving yesterday (I guess) really stressed my bad shoulder which hurts more when typing so I'll just show the pictures without any additional comment.

Pain cream Jim. Do you have any on hand? Dave Groomer's recipe is the bomb, but you'll get good results with any infused oil you may have around. That pain cream saved my body after the fall. Unbelievable how much healing went on as it cut the pain.

At our age a good pain cream is pretty much essential. :laughtwo: If you need, I could get some to you pronto.

Jim, Have a great day. Hope you shoulder feel better. :xmas:

Thanks KB...It's much better today.

Two of the seedling pots had two plants so I made my attempt to separate them today. It's now a done deal and I'll just hope that they will survive my harsh ways. If I'm lucky they'll never know they were out of the pots and if unlucky they will stunt or stress out. I was gentle with these little babes.

Labyrinth was moved into a 1 gallon pot so she can immediately have a few more cubic inches of soil. I've heard this one mentioned as being "too powerful" for some. Gimme some of dat "too powerful"!

All of this was watered in well with day old AACT. It passed the smell test so I'm hoping it's still good.

I topped UD #1 to take a clone. The six lowest fans were removed to send energy to the lowest branches. The bottom most branches were removed altogether. I've been contemplating this type of trimming for quite a while now and couldn't resist the opportunity to test my intuition here.

No doubt Devil's Carnival will be the next guinea pig. Jgrowlove says this one is top shelf so I need to do my best to grow her out.

Everything in the tent is looking good but I didn't take any pictures. My bad.

Good to see all the little ones cranking along... they all look healthy and happy.

Careful what you wish for my friend! Labyrinth isn't a too strong strain for me but it's definitely medical grade & long lasting to go with...

What's your home made freezer hash rig?? Asking for a friend --> :geek:

I've been making freezer hash for the last several daze. I'm always looking for a "better way" - you seem to get some good yields there... gotta share your secret. Promise to tell everyone....wait... yeah sharing = caring.

I've got some round screens pre-made that fit inside each other about 5" diameter and a btm tray, add a few small set screw drivers in with the herb then into freezer, wait an hour or 3 and shake n bake.

Funny you were mentioning Cambodian cannabis.. friends were over for the weekend and we were sitting around puffing and got on to talking Thai Stick and how we used to get it back in the day.. got to thinking of doing Labyrinth that way .... Lemon Thai on a stick.. then I forget the rest of the convo.... :hmmmm: after we smoked up some Lab freezer hash with freshies.

Yeah so good luck with the gaggle of little ones ... they are so precious at this stage.

High Bo....I give complete credit to my source which was Major PITA. I'm not sure if he is still active but the link to this method is here:

Dry Sift Kief Making 101 (the cheap, lazy-grower way)

If that doesn't send you there it's post 965.

I bought 3 of these screens. The 100, 150 and 200. Initially I tried the 200 and got very little results. Then I switched to the 100 and it seems to work the best and I've found the kief to be very clean. I didn't have any of the jugs that Major PITA had but I found a container at one of the dollar stores and I built a gasket of sorts made from a strip of corrugated paper and electrical tape.

This gasket keeps the screen tight to the lip and everything inside the jug insuring a clean product. Without the gasket I had some leakage of material. While shaking one does have to hold jug and screen together due to the impact of product and marbles. I run about 20 marbles with about a 1/2 jug of buds.

After removing jug and contents from the freezer I likely shake for less than 1 minute then it's back to the freezer for a few minutes. I might make as many as 4 or 5 passes before it all gets dumped. Your mileage may vary.

Occasionally I scrape the outside of the screen as the kief can stick there because it's sticky and possible temperature changes. There's another post in that thread where Major PITA encourages folks to use the driest buds or trim available.

Here's my setup:

OK...so I'm cold. It's just not normal for temperatures to be in the teens. Nope not normal at all.

I used one of those photo stitching tools for a Before and After picture of the topping and trim job I gave the Ultra Dawg yesterday. It would have been nice if I knew how to use that tool better. I guess the end product is better than nothing. It also showed me the tea I made is still good for a couple of days maybe. Those leaves were straight up praying this morning. I still have 2 gallons being actively aerated.

Nice job on the trim Jim. She'll explode in the next week. :high-five:

I like the looks of the set-up you put together for the freezer hash. I think this may be my next project. I gave my original jar and marbles to Jgrowlove to play with, but I have more marbles and can grab a canister at the dollar store. I have some 125 tpi silkscreen silk that'll be perfect for the job.

I also have a huge bag of trim that I need to get processed into something. I spent yesterday making enough infused oil to supply pain cream for months, and it barely made a dent in that bag. Maybe this is where I should be putting my focus.

Infused oil for pain cream. That's my next project. What carrier oil are you using?

For topicals I use grape seed oil. It absorbs into the skin more easily. Do you have Dave Groomer's recipe?

I have a policy of forcing myself outdoors every day. It's so cold out there today I may break that rule. Stay warm and toasty, my magical companion.

Here.... this'll help. :passitleft:

Decided to go out anyway. That Autumn Squash soup at Panara is calling me. :cheesygrinsmiley:

GSO is what I was planning to use. I'm learning that Pumpkin seed oil is better and that Apricot kernel oil might be even better than that. Add a little peppermint and tea tree oil and you're golden...I think.

I've seen Dave's earlier recipe over on Mangus8's thread. I'm not sure if it's the same as what he's using now. I'm actually only a few pages into that thread.

Knowing how I do things....I might not follow a recipe much. I did learn that the bees wax should not be more than 8% of the overall product. Double boiler stuff is yet to be put together. My bees wax will get here today probably frozen at 15o F.

My oldest cat came in yesterday morning and again this morning. She's lived here 7 years and was an "indoor/outdoor" cat that first year. Since then she's just stayed outdoors. I installed a pet door through a wall when I bought this house.

It just tells me it's very cold...something I already knew. and that she's getting older just like all of us.

Chemdawg in my bowl this morning. :bongrip:

I started early and now time for that second bowl.:circle-of-love:

The cold weather is real. Lol.
It got down to -5 degrees the other night. Deep freeze type stuff.

It was a big fat joint of Tangerine Dream for me Jim. All of it. Lol.

Cheers friend.

Ditch...I can only imagine. In my youth I spent some Winters in Ohio. But that was in my youth. A youngster from Virginia getting to see snow for a week at a time. I even remember ice skating.

I moan at times about the heat here during the summer but I'm convinced that it never gets hot enough to actually die. This cold can kill ya.

I rise from sleep at 5:00 each morning. Coffee usually started around 5:08 am and I'm off to the deck to refill the cats' food bowls and smoke a cigarette. Back in a few minutes later for that coffee and I sit in front of the tent and admire whatever I have growing there. Then I usually fill my bowl and really get my day started. So I get my three medications - nicotine, caffeine and THC.

Although I really get off on seeing some girls in flower I do really enjoy watching them grow from seed. UD #1 is so cute with her recent trim and I find her leaves up each morning. Devil's Carnival is getting her topping either later today or tomorrow. The thought crossed my mind this morning....what would I do if this brood produces no males? Well...I'll just choose several to grow out and go from there.

I'm going to start my pain cream today by decarbing some buds. Have fun today folks. Stay warm.

I'm sold on the benefits of Actively Aerated Compost Tea (AACT). I guess the only thing questionable here is the quality of my compost. I'm curious but not curious enough to go buy a fancy microscope to look at the microbes. The Blue Dream and Pakistan Valley clones looked so bad several weeks ago. Although they've had a remedial frontal attack with some organic nutes, some homemade calmag, up canning from 1 to 2 gallon softies and a bit of the newest mix, the recent tea treatment has really sparked the girls into some positive new growth.

My last grow was my poorest to date although I claim some success with Pakistan Valley. I'm really tempted to run this one as organic as possible and I may run them in those 2 gallon softies. Just running this trough my mind now and that can be a wild place of possibilities.

UD #2 and #3 along with Fast n Vast x Master Kush x Panama (FVxMKxPam)

It seems all the FVxMKxPams survived the separation I performed on those plants that were growing together. 2 were stunned and stressed but I'm sure they'll be ok. The FV part is all 80% indica with a bunch of Skunk, the MK is called "pure indica" and I crossed that male with the Panama which is pure sativa of Panama and Columbia. Interesting to say the least.

Have a great day folks. This cold weather just makes me do nothing lazy. It could be the Chemdawg and Jack Herer wake n bake.

I took a lazy cold day too. Drenches are tomorrow, and it was way too cold to go walking, so I sat around and considered the future of my many charges.

Ever notice how you can plan and plan and life gets in there and changes them all up? :laughtwo: I still get a rush out of planning. Addicted to the dreaming, I suppose. :battingeyelashes:

That Devil's Carnival's one of the sweetest structures yet. Look at the girth of the stalk! She's probably gonna try to bolt, but you'll be more alert than I was with my first. She has beautiful leaves, very healthy in appearance. That cross produced some vigorous genetics. I can't wait to see what yours does. :slide: I'm doing my new one in soil, and ours look close in development.

Oooo.... It didn't occur to me until this very minute that we're running ours simultaneously. :yahoo: Geez......talk about being dense.

Well...... that makes it more fun. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

The last day of 2017. Overall a pretty good year. Yesterday somehow put me behind on topping and trimming the Devil's Carnival so I took on that task this morning. I took quite a few photos and I think I uploaded all I need to show what happened. I neglected to take a picture of the top which got dusted with rooting powder and stuffed into a rock wool cube. Hopefully we'll see it again.

Devil's Carnival - Day 24

Branches are just ready to extend laterally. I love what she's doing here.

DSC_028217.JPG

So you can see here that the deal is done.

I always sterilize my clippers in Isopropyl alcohol and I wash my hands well before handling clones.

DSC_029128.JPG

What I'll do next is take the 4 bottom fans off along with the two branches at the very bottom. This might give me enough plant tissue to get two more clones. The overall idea is to stimulate growth of everything above this area. I've gotten away from doing too much LST so we'll see if I have any desire for training as we move forward.

DSC_029531.JPG

Done...I left those cotyledons for some reason.

DSC_029733.JPG

She already is showing pre-flowers.

DSC_030122.JPG

A closer look

DSC_0301a.jpg

There was one node on each of those two lower branches so I dusted them and stuck them in some mix. These could easily die as there wasn't much stem to work with. I'll just consider it another challenge to keep them alive. I'll consider it a bonus if this works.

I wish you all a Happy New Year. Please stay warm and safe.

Wow it's been a learning montage. Hope your shoulder is feeling better. I wish you the bluest dreamiest plants you've ever harvested in the new year. Thank you for learning opportunities and the picture of the car with the plant that will be forever etched in my mind as the true MagicJim. Much luv and super big hugs,

Happy New years to you buddy... many many well wishes for a prosperous and green new year!

Thanks for the tip and the link on the freezer hash.... I've kinda sorta been doing it the way you do it.. I cobbled together a rig like yours and I just didn't get the lid with screen thing right enough... I ordered some new screens... the last rig I made I think i put on a mesh that wasn't letting anything thru... so had to go back to the drawing boards as they say. Now I'm just doing it the laziest way ...stacking 2 screens with material in between and bought a catch base that works pretty good. So it's working but .. meh... I need a bigger container.. time to go to the dollar store. I think I have the same screens as you but mine are listed as "mesh" and "mesh" is not a standard measurement... so hard to say what screen I'm using.

Thinking of going to the art supply store and buying a silkscreen on a frame already made up and doing it the old fashioned way!

The cool thing about the freezer hash is its great as input to any sort of concentrate you wanna make.

Also easier to have around than containers of trim... I've got a bunch. I need to get that processed and get all that material not needed into the compost bin. If 5-0 ever stopped in for a visit, I'd prolly do some time just from the weight of trim I have. It's pretty useless in its present form.

I take my Keif after sifting and put it in some parchment paper and get the iron out.... flatten it with the iron for a few minutes until it gets a dark brown ... boom a nice hard chunk of hashish!

That Auto you have going there - that's the way I wanna grow autos... I never have any that look like that - I remember Nismo making seeds... her plants were epic! That should turn out really really good. DD is one of my favorites for taste and meds. After I cure that I pretty much puff on it till gone and give it away to friends .... its favorite for the bag appeal.

Stay warm and safe for the holiday... my wife decided instead of walking outside with the pups like we usually do every day, its soo cold we are now house cleaning for the new year.... yay me... I think its time for me to take a puff break. I think walking in the cold is more fun...little pup was shivering this morning tho..

I was looking at the long term forecast.... there's a disturbance in The Force, Jim.... Polar Vortex is coming our way.

Cheers & happy new years
